It's because the US is way too big (size wise) for pro/rel. England is roughly the size of Virginia. Spain and Germany are comparable to Texas. Traveling for lower tiered games there isn't a hassle. It's hard enough getting fans of Orlando to travel to Portland for a match because of all the costs (flight/hotel/car/misc). Imagine if they were in the 2nd or 3rd division.

As a Honduran myself, I can tell you the war had nothing to do with that football match. Territorial disputes and political tensions were the causes, the football match just made things worse.
