I grew up on about 30 acres. I couldn't wait to get out of there and go to college and "be somebody." Now I'm 40 with a wife and son and all I want is dirt between my toes and some peace and quiet. Great song, love you Garth!
My friend lives on his grandparents farm. He lives in the house they had. He lives out his dream on the family farm. I'm so proud of him. He's raising his kids on the farm. A beautiful, peaceful place
How I've always looked up to this song... My father was born in nineteen forty-five. Born into a long-lived family hood of farming since Spain. Came over in the early 1900s and Dad was born into it in 1945. And I feel that he left for Vietnam in 1966 and didn't even get to have his first drink at 21 because he was spending his 21st birthday on the boat going to Vietnam. His whole life was filled with farming and then he got called to work. When he came back you started a family with my mother who he married before he went to war. They had three daughters. Starting in 1968 and the last in 1979 when I was born. I've always thought of this song relating to my father. But in different ways. We have all grown up around farming our whole lives. Him especially. I love the song with all my heart. And I hope someday it will play the day I leave this world because it had such an impact with me, and my family.
What memories listening to Garth Brooks again, I listened and fell in Love with his songs while frequenting bars 30 years ago, well, since then I've had a lot of realizations, grown up a lot, made priorities for my life, allowed Christ to change me, tomorrow I reach 30 years of complete abstinence of all substances. I know I'm doing what many have difficulty doing, I did it because had I continued, I wouldn't be here right now sharing my life and sharing my story.
I appreciate the reminder of this wonderful song by Garth Brooks. Being an African man, I have a deep affection for country 🎶 🎵 music. I have waited too long for this song to be posted.😊
Yes!! I’m so glad you posted this! I have been waiting for someone to post the real Garth brooks version of this song for years and not a cover version. I’m so happy I found this!
Me too! It just showed up through my Pandora Premium account. It is too bad that I can't play back any Garth Brooks song or search for any of his songs in Pandora. I will have to wait for they to surprise me every once in a while. That's the way it is. It has to do with Garth's rules having to do with writers getting paid or not. Something having to do with copyrights....
Alabama Clay / Lyrics First time he saw the ground get busted He was ten and it was 1952 His daddy worked hard from sunup to sundown And the goin' got tough behind them ol' grey mules The farm grew to be a moneymaker And the house he lived in grew up room by room The boy worked hard but soon got tired of farmin' So he slipped away one night 'neath the harvest moon His neck was red as Alabama clay But the city's call pulled him away He's got a factory job and runs a big machine He don't miss the farm or the fields of green Now the city's just a prison without fences His job is just a routine he can't stand And at night he dreams of wide-open spaces Fresh dirt between his toes and on his hands Then one day a picture came inside a letter Of a young girl with a baby in her arms And the words she wrote would change his life forever So he went to raise his family on the farm His neck is red as Alabama clay Now he's goin' home this time to stay Where the roots run deep on the family tree And the tractor rolls through the fields of green His neck is red as Alabama clay Now he's goin' home this time to stay Where the roots run deep on the family tree And the tractor rolls through the fields of green His neck is red as Alabama clay

I don't know how he does it? Every single song tells its own individual story. What a bloody genius.
Thank you so much I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤️
Everyone living that style of life has lived. The rest just existed.
He didn't write his own songs. Songwriters in Nashville do 90 percent of it. This one was written by Larry and Ronnie.

Lyrics
First time he saw the ground get busted
He was ten and it was 1952
His daddy worked hard from sunup to sundown
And the goin' got tough behind them ol' grey mules
The farm grew to be a moneymaker
And the house he lived in grew up room by room
The boy worked hard but soon got tired of farmin'
So he slipped away one night 'neath the harvest moon
His neck was red as Alabama clay
But the city's call pulled him away
He's got a factory job and runs a big machine
He don't miss the farm or the fields of green
Now the city's just a prison without fences
His job is just a routine he can't stand
And at night he dreams of wide-open spaces
Fresh dirt between his toes and on his hands
Then one day a picture came inside a letter
Of a young girl with a baby in her arms
And the words she wrote would change his life forever
So he went to raise his family on the farm
His neck is red as Alabama clay
Now he's goin' home this time to stay
Where the roots run deep on the family tree
And the tractor rolls through the fields of green
His neck is red as Alabama clay
Now he's goin' home this time to stay
Where the roots run deep on the family tree
And the tractor rolls through the fields of green
His neck is red as Alabama clay
This song sounds a lot like From A Distance by Alan Jackson. One of my favourites from Garth!
I can see how you think that!
