I met Andrew Varela last year he was an interesting man and was quite the comedian I asked him about the previous shows he has performed in and he said he hated playing the Phantom! And then that's when he gave me the complete musical score of the revival of Les Miserables sighned by all the actors they also gave me the London revival on CD for free because it was all for my 21st birthday last November!
This guy played Javert when I saw it in D.C. last year... and I was so glad he hit the f sharp at the end, rather than screaming the last note as many Javerts do. Screaming it works obviously, since he's committing suicide, and it has a cool effect... still I get chills when he hits that f sharp, and it modulates to d major.... gahhh it's awesome
I saw him perform twice with Peter Lockyear last year. They are a dream team! Andrew is perfect for this role! I wish I could watch him perform this live again and again!
I just saw Les Mis in Chicago, Andrew Varela is amazing, Peter Lockyer as JvJ was perfection, but the best surprise for me was Brianna Carlson-Goodman as Eponine. Her performance was heartbreakingly beautiful.
hey vshark,i met javert he was really nice hey everyone, compared to the other videos the person filmed the jump really well u could tell he was off the ground
Um....they actually liked it. And they mostly had good reviews of the performers. And even if they didn't like something, or they though the singing wasn't so good, they had positive things to say about the acting. They're too nice to say anything mean about that. They only make fun of their cast mates, in sport. They are collectively nice, and wouldn't think bad of the movie.
His resume lists Jean Valjean and Prince Karl Franze in "The Student Prince." Karl Franze is like the most tenor of tenor roles in operetta. The big Serenade goes up to a C5.
William Writepony perhaps in his younger years his voice sat higher? It's not so much about what notes you can hit, more the actual tone of voice. I can't imagine Varela playing a tenor of any sort nowadays
I dunno. When it got time for the Confrontation I had a huge amount of difficulty sorting out his lines from Valjean's, because the two just had extremely similar sounding voices to me, sans Philip Quast impression. He just didn't sound like a baritone to me.

This music is in my DNA by now ......;>
I was so happy I got to see this live, and I believe that is the very same Javert I watched. Amazing performance.
I remembering seeing this last February with him and J. Mark McVey as Valjean. No words can describe how amazing these two are on stage.

I love this too much.
I'm only 2 mins into this and am crying like a baby. Andrew Varela is the only man who can make me cry during Javert's death.
Saw him in Cincinnati 4 months or so ago. So powerful
Oh my, thanks alot for uploading this!
Absolutely brilliant!

Ron is my voice teacher! He's an unbelievable performer!
WOW! This is BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for uploading :D It seems they captured the jump effect better in this vid!
Saw Andrew in Febuary with J. Mark McVey amazing performance :)
Nice touch, holding that last note.
LOVE IT

Not familiar with the US Cast's...who is playing Valjea here?
The London revival of what? Both shows you mentioned never closed in London, they're still on their first run, and going strong...
That's really interesting. Did he say why he hated playing the Phantom? Or was he being totally sarcastic?

Varela nailed the solos but anything that wasn't a solo was... not very good. I don't know who thought casting a tenor as Javert was a good idea.
William Writepony he's definitely a baritone..
