Kacey Musgraves is my favorite country artist, and this song is emblematic of why this is the case. Not only is she an immensely talented singer and song writer, but the substance of her songs is unique in modern mainstream country - a genre of music that seems to be infatuated with portraying rural life as a care free, morally unblemished utopia. She actually flips this way of thinking on its head. She is honest about the realities of country life, highlighting all the problems that exist in rural America. In her song "Merry Go Round" she plainly reveals how suffocating rural life can be to people's dreams and aspirations. Now, in this song, she is critical of the corrosive gossip and nosiness of small town life, the way she did in her other song, "Trailer Song". You have to respect Musgraves for candor. It is easy to sing songs romanticizing rural life, as most country artists do. It takes far more integrity to go against the grain and look at it honestly. We need more artists in country music that are willing to be this frank.

I have been listening to country music in the womb so close for 50 years. Willie you are the man! Dolly-can't imagine a world without her! Coming of age. Loving and losing. Garth, Trisha, Faith, Tim, Shania, Vince, Alan. My crazy days. Carrie makes me feel like I'm getting old but love her music. Miranda - trust me the bar flies and Baptists were in an uproar. This is not going to be popular but the Dixie Chicks get my respect. They tore it up and turned it out. Kacey. "roll your own smoke and own your own crazy." brilliant. She’s one of the best country songwriters of our day. She’s never gotten lazy with her writing the way a lot of people do after they’ve found success and don’t have the hunger pushing them anymore.

This woman gives me "faith" in country music. She has an incredible way of invoking classic country, while realizing that times have changed. The fact that she writes her own songs, or is at least involved in the writing, only makes it better. I can't believe there are over 1,000 thumbs down, probably from country/conservative purists who don't think people should mind their own biscuits, nor follow their arrow.

Shame this got taken off the radio. I may be beating a dead horse, but mainstream country needs a real good shake up. Kacey strikes a nice balance of simple and intricate, so I think she appeals to traditionalists but also newcomers. She keeps it fresh but also keeps it authentic, not to mention she puts on a beautiful live show. I could go on and on but there's no need. She's a rare bird, this one!

I'm rapidly becoming a big fan of this talented young lady. I like her singing and her songwriting. She isn't a "traditional" country star with her views and the causes she supports, more power to her. I remember people calling Shania Twain unconventional when she first got big too. I liked this particular video not just for its homespun common sense lyrics, but because the set brought back memories of watching Hee Haw when I was a kid. The girls on that show wore those cute little short dresses too!
