    Just to clarify. We didn't assume that this was just made out of talc and corn starch, we noticed the corn flour texture and looked into the ingredient list that confirmed what we suspected. These are the ingredients of this product in case you were interested: Talc, Nylon-12, Magnesium Myristate, Distarch Phosphate (CORN STARCH), Magnesium Carbonate, Hydrated Silica, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Starch (WHEAT STARCH), Silica, Parfum (Fragrance), Meteorite Extract, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Cellulose Gum, Sorbic Acid, Aplha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Amyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Geranoil, Cinnamyl Alcohol

      If you look up videos of vintage makeup counters from back when they would mix up face powder for individual customers, you can see all of the same colors go into making skin toned face powder. Apparently, if you keep the colors separated and package it nicely, people will pay two or three times as much for basic face powder that is sheer as heck.

  • @SierraMist2015

  • @RumerPriestly

    Years and years ago, my late grandmother gave me a face powder that had little balls of all those colours imbedded into the regular beige powder compact, and it was hands down the best powder I've ever used, it made my complexion look better than anything else has and I've been looking for it ever since, so I wouldn't be so quick to put this stuff down.

    Is there cornstarch commonly in face powders? That's really concerning for me but would make a TON of sense as to why these types of powders a lot of times clog pores and break people out.

    • @Jarnsaxxxa

      Aaron Cajti I was watching a minimalist makeup video yesterday and she made her own face Powder with corn starch and cinnamon, and she said it worked well and blurred her pores and fine lines

    • @MsLoopyLoops
      @MsLoopyLoops 8 років тому +46

      What was her reason for adding the cinnamon? I would have thought that would be a skin irritant.

    • @Michelle-zh4rx
      @Michelle-zh4rx 8 років тому +28

      J LP well I guess it is an irritant if it used on its own, but with corn starch it's good for your skin, repairs skin, and gets rid of blackheads. But it was used for tint, to adjust the color of the corn starch to be used for face powder. There are a lot of recipes for powder online that use cinnamon but also other alternatives for tint. some of the most expensive HD powder is just straight mica, which you could get much cheaper without the name brand name for TKB trading Co

    why do people get mad at them the videos are just kind of to inform you about the quality of products and if your getting what you paid for. If you don't like it the go watch some beauty gurus put the crap on there faces and not tell you if your getting good makeup and how much product you pay for. oh and talc has been recalled so you probably shouldn't be using this any way but do you..

    AHH THE METEORITES :) i was at my local department store just before xmas here in the uk and the sales girls at the geurlain counter were putting out the xmas display of the festive edition of this product- it had extra sparkle as some of the pearls were snowflake or star shaped or something. well she was opening them up and the lid was stubborn and i saw her give it a stubborn twist and the little suckers just flew out all over the place and the department store was all shiny tiles so they went for miles and it was busy so they were getting stepped on and ive gotta say stepping on several of them was quite satisfying lol

    Hmm torn I would never pay for this but a friend of mine gifted me one for Christmas because she loves them; it does have a strong lavender smell which is their signature smell even in perfumes (not great for sensitive skin tho); its is sold as a finishing powder meant to be used after you have applied and set all your make up to give it a finish look just like the hourglass ambient light powders (common misconception since they are not highlighters but uses as such) , even tho I despite the price tag I can vouch for the effect is real pretty and really makes an overall difference on the finish result then again I hate the $$. Now I am an avid project panner and many products as you know are not meant to be repressed as they loose texture , pigmentation etc due to the alcohol used to repressed them this is commonly know thing in the project pan community that is why most of the time I have given up on repressing some products cause they just lose their workability. Not hating , playing devils advocate like I stated would never buy it myself but I can't deny that in their original form that they work fantastic.

      I majored in chemistry and about halfway through college I got super interested in cosmetic chemistry and did a lot of related research, and for whatever my opinion's worth I can also say that the Beauty Brains are great and I can't recommend them enough. They occasionally will oversimplify something to the point that an answer will feel a little misleading, but imo that's a necessary evil that they're much better about than any other beauty bloggers/writers I've read so far. It makes it so that anyone can research what's in beauty products regardless of their existing knowledge, and I fully recommend that anyone who wears makeup at ALL looks into their blog/books

    Actually, it's a powder that has been in the market for 30 years and has always been hand made.
    Of course you pay for the packaging and the brand but you also pay for the people working behind it and the quality of the make up. Guerlain is 100% made in France in their own factory which would cost much more than private label something from China like many other cosmetic brands do.
    What I am saying is that you should always consider more than just the ingredients but also the product from start to finish.
    Great Video Anyway ;)

      We do consider many factors but ultimately it's up to you what you put value in and we never tell people what they should and shouldn't buy, we just offer another perspective to give people more information. A factory in France or China actually makes little difference in the outcome of the product, but if French made is value to you then definitely buy the product! 😊

      I understand that some products in China may be of great quality however what matters to me is how the people working behind the product are treated.. when I buy a product at Guerlain, I know that every person that was involved in the process of making it can afford a comfy roof on top of their heads and food in their stomach..
      But again that's what I value..

      Bo Vander S Yep poor & working class people who can't buy luxury French brands are anti-labor rights. Nevermind that there are small companies online who are employee owned & still are affordable with good value for money.

    You do very entertaining videos. That being said I'd like to point out that I have tried the cheaper alternatives for meteorites and they don't perform as good on the skin than the meteorites from Guerlain do. Guerlain face products also tend not to swatch well on the hand and yet they perform well when actually applied on the face. I wear my makeup on my face not swatched on my hand so I tend to care more about the way makeup performs on my face than how it swatches. Sometimes swatches give a good idea how products will perform and sometimes not: for more concentrated color payoff products, such as eyeshadow and lipstick, swatches usually give a good indication of the performance but it's my experience that for face products such as foundations, powders, blushes etc. you just have to try it out as everyone has different skin types (pH, moisture levels) and needs.
    I think that part of the functionality of meteorites is that they are finely milled (granted I only own the pearl version, not the pressed one so I can only talk about that) so when pressed with alcohol of course the powder particle size doesn't perform as good as before. Even when brands use less expensive ingredients (and I think it is extremely important to point that out and I am grateful that you do that in your videos) the processing will affect how those ingredients perform (smaller particle size, emollients used etc.) on the face so sometimes you will get a product that performs better when proper process steps are taken.
    Of course I would like that the meteorites would reformulate to include say silk particles but I still like the product as it is and will continue to re-buy it. The pretty packaging is a part of the allure but the product is excellent as well. As I stated previously I have tried the cheaper versions of meteorites because I actually wanted to refill the meteorites packaging with them but they don't perform as well on my extremely dry skin.
    I have enjoyed the fact that you guys weigh the products. It didn't cross my mind that brands might sometimes cheat some products from the customer. You could get a more accurate number of the actual product if you did repeat weighings, say 3-5 times, and then calculate the average.

    My grandmother grew and loved violets and I loved her very very much. She passed away when I was 10 and everytime I smell Rose or Violet it takes me right back to Nanny's house. I don't find it to be grandma. It is instead a wonderful memory and I wear rose oil as well as Violet and lavender oil.

    It’s 100% normal for all the different colours mixed together to do that. If you mix art the primary colours together, it will turn brown. So, if you mixed pink, yellow, green, orange, purple together, naturally it will turn into a muted brown colour 😊
