And I was there! They supported Big Country (who I had gone to see) Went downstairs backstage afterwards to meet Big Country and Tim and the band were there as well. A few days later I went to see Kissing The Pink at UMIST and the support band were James!! I think there was around a dozen people in the crowd,
James were such a special band. Really love their early work. I remember being totally flabbergasted (crestfallen) when hearing the 'Come home' single. It was such a let down. That really was the breaking point for me. They were a kind of U2 from then on. What a shame...
Paul Gilbertson got fired in 1985 due to drug problems shortly before the James II EP because it caused negative publicity and stagnated their growth (The band later joined Sire records, which didn't help). Paul now works as a taxi driver in Manchester and he hasn't talked to the band since. Gavan Whelan got fired in 1988 after getting in a fight with Tim at a party. Despite him begging to stay, he was kicked out as he got into physical alterations with Jim and Larry as well previously. However, he ended up being a roadie for Primal Scream and got into another band (The sources I got from him were from 1997 and I don't know where he is now).
@@thescottishcrusader2781 OK he never looked like he was on drugs, his power of the drums are more than (David Power) he is more in to electronic and bass, Hate that shit and he is 15 or more years older than me, Fukka needs to grow up you can't be young forever, they call you Power for something lets see a crazy James album recorded or not, you can't beat one fan clapping you was not even there like One fan,
@@jackobora3193 I think I read that the original drummer Gavan Whelan had a fight with Tim on stage in Stoke-on-Trent, and that other band members had had problems with him as well.

And if I remember rightly there was one song which he announced as very recently written so he had to sing the lyrics from a notebook.
the original line up was the best, gavan whelan was one awesome drummer.
in '89 Tim and Gavan join together in an hard Boxing Fight on stage ... ;-)

can't believe no-one replied to this - 100% correct! Never the same after Gavan left ...

Thank you . A rare gem here

holy shit! x
Wow how much has Tim changed unlike bass player Jim
What happened at 1.37 - Paul Gilbertson decided to sing along, then changed his mind?
How good is this?
Why did the original drummer and guitarist leave ?
Once read that they'd been convicted of assault. Necessitated replacements, for sure.

a SMITHS copy
nothing like the smiths
formed way before The Smiths in fact and Morrissey was a huge fan !
Completely different bands. Nobody can beat Johnny Marr in famous indie riffs for example.
I've loved both bands for 30+ years, but this is nonsense. What Smiths song sounds even a little bit like this?
@@jam-nc8ut She’s a troll. Calls The Smiths “A James Copy” on Smiths videos too! 🤦♂️
