When you generally have $500 on a player getting a yellow card, but it randomly jumps to $25k twice and coincidentally the player gets a yellow card…that’s highly suspicious
Not to mention having those bets come from accounts that originate from your hometown
Or from Paquetta Island @@sdu9340

@@zachhughes8546 could be getting blackmailed. Threats to his family in Brazil. Wouldn’t be the first time

Yes there are dickheads, mafioso types propped up by our previous corrupt governments that think they are larger than life and a lot of crime. Hell, parts of Rosario and Santa Fe in general were pretty much war zones a few months back but that is not Angel's fault.
@@FindingLemo It could be debt from gambling. Let's say you make bets, not even related to your team, league or sport. You lose, you acquire a big bet. The bookies pull you aside and say your debt can be forgiven if you throw a couple of game. Boom, blackmail.
@@FindingLemoNot even blackmailing. Threats/extortion to South American footballers from criminal organizations isn’t too out of the ordinary, and Rio de Janeiro isn’t the safest of places so it wouldn’t be completely out of the picture. Just look at Luis Diaz and his situation with his family as a recent example. Of course, this still could just be a sly plan between himself and family members to make a quick buck.
Ban them for life.
The fact they're being paid what they're being paid and they still feel the need to "gamble" on themselves or their teams or whatever is just wrong. Make an example out of them and then blackball them from everything if it is proven true.
100%. The wages their on means there shouldn't be any match fixing.
You could argue in the lower leagues yes, they'd earn more money for that than they would for the year, but at the highest level of sport, no excuse. Lifetime ban.

About the whole "if refs take bribes once they can never referee again" thing, boy let me tell you about Felix Zwayer in Germany who got sentenced by the court for sports in Germany for taking a bribe (despite him denying that till this day) and still to this day is a Bundesliga and UEFA/Fifa referee.
Sounds like he fits in with fifa Uefa tho
Yeah, or about polish refs. The whole 90s and early 2000s were filled with bribery scandals and yet these refs were allowed to work because it wasn't yet illegal.
And don't forget to mention that he is still one of our worst referees. His "comeback" had nothing to do with his ability, but harmless jurisdiction.

This was announced initially last summer (killed city move) and it was Betway (west hams sponsor) who flagged it to the FA
This is the third case of a Premier League player being accused of betting within a very short space of time. When Tony got his punishment I was really hoping they’d launch a Calciopoli-style investigation, because at the end of the day, whatever the motivations or headspace, a player bet against his own team. Now we have someone accused of spot fixing, if he’s found guilty we *really* need to check if this is an epidemic in the Premier League.
Im from Brazil, and im 100% sure Paqueta is involved in this. Last year an investigation found out that on the 2022 Brazilian league season, 5 players had done the same thing, they were paid by a group of people who did the bets on lots of different Betting platforms. So yeah, there's a precedent.

It's almost like there was a reason gambling was outlawed for so long. We had things so easy for so long that we forgot why some rules were there in the first place, we thought to ourselves "We know better now than the old farts who passed this ancient law" Well clearly, we dont.

just to give you a heads up, if he is found guilty of the charges levelled against him, then once the F.A. has concluded its own proceedings, it will then refer the case to police so they can begin the criminal proceedings, as one of the charges involved in this is fraud, not to mention some of the other stuff also falling under legal purview.
Similar to the Pakistan cricketers found guilty of spot-fixing 15ish years ago I guess. They were locked up for a few months I think.
@@listey Yes, big cricket fan here and because the spot fixing was set up and conducted here in the UK, the 3 players and an agent were charged and found guilty for essentially fraud and they served time here. They ended up back playing cricket, one of the them is back playing England right now, rightly or wrongly.
And just to add, forever more do we watch stupid unbelievable no balls and the eyebrows are raised immediately. Wouldn't surprise me if we start throwing spot fixing around when you see someone make a really oddly timed challenge or go at the ref to get a yellow in football soon.
Season ticket holder at West Ham:
Missed a couple of things in the vid that makes it way more mental including this dropping on the new managers first day 😂
Seen him get 100 stupid yellow cards. Including a yellow that meant he missed the europa league qf.
No way he is making money out oft it. Makes no sense financially.
Even so. It would not be done on betway for profit. It would be some black market thing.
I think it is more likely he has someone trying to get him into trouble. Maybe an enemy he has made in his hometown. Paqueta island.
Was looking for the Paqueta Island reference.
You do know a lot of criminal organizations have been found to use sites like betway to rinse their money right? I’m pretty sure betway even got fined 11million for not checking the proof of funds or source of the bets that ended up being from criminal transactions. Idk if he himself is trying to make a profit but he could be having friends or others place bets to improve his hometown or look after his family. The look isn’t good especially when there are random blips of massive bets being taken out for him to get a yellow with most of them being from his hometown. To be honest it’s not surprising if it’s true and there should be no place to bet on these things since it’s far to easy and likely to have a player actually ensure the line hits.
You think he wasn't throwing matches cause the big betting companies would pick up on it, despite the fact that there's countless of unofficial criminal organisations that offer bets and he wasn't somehow "persuaded" to get a yellow in a match. More than likely, only offence is he was caught out for it.
Expect a massive ban.
@@FindingLemo the whole reason this investigation started was because a organization noticed a large sum being placed on a legal gambling service in his hometown. And the big betting companies wouldn’t pick up on it because most of the time they don’t care. That’s why they have been found to not care when millions are placed through their sights from criminal organizations and they don’t do their due diligence. One site got fine 11 million because they didnt check since to them it only matters if the bet hits. If it misses they dont care cause they get their money.
the bets for new accounts was at a maximum of £200 it seems so insignificant
The problem with betting on your team to win, are the games where you don't bet on anything. The results of those matches affect the odds of the matches you do bet on. If you play professional soccer, you shouldn't bet on professional soccer. And you really shouldn't bet on any match your club is participating in.
Really good point. I hadn't thought of that
You really shouldn't bet at all, because it is way too easy to get in very deep debt to some very unscrupulous people who will want you to affect outcomes for them, against your team
In Brazil right now we still have investigations about bets and players involved, this could an international branch of this scandal, but also footballers from Rio de Janeiro are known to have friends from the organized crime, and even parties with them, so he could be helping some of his "friends"
yeah, Adriano is a great example with carioca footballers having wrong kinds of friends.
I think you guys, and Zealand missed one hilarious thing: Premier League has a new rule, which allows referees to give yellow cards for talking and arguing with them since this season. He didn't need to commit fouls, he could've simply walk to the referee and start an argument about an offside or something. Easiest yellow, and nobody will suspect a thing..... just a passionate player, who didn't hear about the rule, no biggie... drop it 4 times in 2 months and you are good to go...
Maybe the bets are on getting booked for fouls
“The filing department is off today” is being added to my lexicon. Good video

this could be bigger than the spot fixing scandel that happend in cricket in 2010 in a test match between England and & Pakistan
That was my first experience of seeing corruption in sport. I still remember that guy throwing a no-ball about 10 feet out of the crease.
What's crazy is that this kind of betting scandal has now reached Australia - Macarthur FC's Ulises Dávila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis have all been arrested for the same reason. As an Adelaide United fan who openly opposes betting sponsorship, this kind of thing getting as far as the A-Leagues is shocking and downright infuriating. Much like the Paquetá case there are some pretty obvious examples as well - One quote from a detective superintendent was "It’s pretty clear when you know what you’re looking for... it’s extremely obvious it’s occurring."
Any professional sportsman willingly throwing away their career over a few grand is a moron and deserves everything they get. And betting on sports here in Australia has been around for decades, you could always go down the tab and bet on sports, nothing has changed really
it’s an even bigger problem in lower leauge because people do bet big money on those matches and players just doesnt earn very much
It can eventually get to the criminal system too if you match fix. Professionals have insider information and that's why they're not allowed to bet.
The irony of this video whilst wearing a Unibet sponsored Club Brugge shirt
Pete Rose got suspended indefinitely by the MLB and is barred from the HOF for betting, he only bet on his own team to win.
Pete Rose was completely nuts, but he wasn't throwing games.

There *is* a problem if you bet on your team to win, unless you do so in every match. The reason is that it provides information to influence the gambling market when you *don’t.*
Betting on your team to win is just as bad as betting on your team to lose, and fans need to understand that and understand why. If you lay bets regularly that your team is going to win and then you don't make a bet one game, you have effectively told whoever you're making your bets with that you're gonna lose today.
Betting on any game you're involved with, even if it's a "bet on your team" should equal lifetime banishment from your sport. Period, end of story, do not pass go, do not collect $200, gone forever.
I told my boy a month ago "for some reason Paqueta is just running around trucking people?" And I think it was the McGinn game lmao this makes sense to me now

Le Tissier did this also, but he had stopped playing by then (when they found out) , and nothing happenned to him, as far as I remmeber. In fact he's still a pundit
A similar thing happened in cricket and almost certainly still occurs. It’s more lucrative due to wages being lower but those who were caught got bans between 4 and 10 years. They were caught out by a journalist approaching them with concrete evidence. I’m sure this will be harder to prove and he will fight it but a huge ban is deserved. It bring huge detriment on the game.
If you’re interested look up the Pakistani Spot Fixing scandal.
It's a funny coincidence that the bets were channeled through Paqueta island in Brazil

Alot of suspicious activity in all leagues. Saw a game where a player clapped at the ref until he got a yellow and continued until he was shown a red. His team was up 2-0 and there was only added time to play.
I feel like I remember a strange yellow card that ppl where making jokes about him probably betting on himself doing it lmao

As a west ham fan im not sure which way itll go. On the one hand paqueta is known for being very physical and kinda dirty in his challenges, so its hard to say hes looking for yellow when he always plays that way. On the other hand, I imagine that the sort of person that would mess around with betting scandals is the sort of person who would do whatever to win - exactly like paqueta. Whichever way it goes I'll be glad to have watched his tricks and flicks for a year or so
I like the Critikal inspiration for the title and thumbnail 😂
I think the yellow card against Bournemouth is the most damning evidence, because the game was tied in the added time in a game West Ham probably felt they should've won, and he suddenly jumps to the ball with arms wide open, and I think he will get the lifetime ban
What's up with that stache tho
Take a look at and do a follow up video w the recent A League scandal in Australia - criminal charges there and up to ten years prison if guilty. Absolutely ruined careers.
You’re right that is just the surface of a much bigger problem. This kind of sports betting has to stop.
Bro is beyond cooked 😭🙏
Pete Rose only ever bet on the Cincinnati Reds to win in MLB and he’s been effectively scrubbed from baseball history. I agree that betting for your team to win is different
my dream of seeing paqueta, white and rice all in the same team
One ban I didn't agree with was with Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli. He never bet on his own team but he bet and was banned for 9 months
I also think, there’s way more enhancing performance drugs in football, more than we dare to think.
I doubt it. Players get piss tested pretty much weekly. In the prem and efl at least.
@@jacksonconstantine5740 Don’t be sure. Cycling is still very doped. Everybody knows it, but they beat the tests anyway. And it’s always a race about being able to detect and hide. It’s very sophisticated.
Football is the most popular sport. Onana from United got banned for like a year for getting exposed some years ago. It probably happens a lot more than we’re aware of. There’s so much more at stake than pro Cycling.
I'm pretty sure there was a massive scandal in Brazil for this exact thing. It was in the top division and involved like 6 players, I think Paqueta was mentioned in it during his time in France. Rabona TV did a video on it a while back
has happened in the A League too, not sure if you've covered that
Let me hold that for you Z.

Match made in heaven
This feels like the start to England's first big match fixing scandal
You missed the most obvious offence. Against Bournemouth, in the 93rd minute he full on punches a goal kick. Not an accidental contact with his hand, a proper hand of god type punch.
And let's not forget that the Brazilian League got a betting scandal where players got exposed for betting the same things (yellow cards, fouls commited, etcetera), sure, most players banned where from 2nd or 3rd divisions where some teams can't pay their wages, but Paquetá HAD to know better come on
Football teams and leagues: take millions of dollars from betting companies to encourage people to gamble.
Football players: gamble
Football teams and leagues: 😮
I know right? People forget these are 20 somethings, not middle aged mature men
@@simbolicdunksman1746 i mean they are adults, and they should know better, it should be talked about more to players, since the youth level. I'm just saying it's hypocritical of teams and leagues to tell their players not to gamble (I think they shouldn't) while taking lots of money from betting sites (I also think they shouldn't).
@@ocb7160 oh I totally agree. I don’t think it should be allowed by any means. I just think surrounding (sheltered and privileged) 20 year olds with all this gambling noise only makes it more likely.
I'm not sure if it's worse than the other cases. Here in Brazil, the media have already talked a lot about this case for hours and days.
I don't trust my memory 100%, but it seems that the other cases are worse because the players did bet and profited. So the worst part of the punishment isn't about manipulation per se, but the fact that they shouldn't have bet.
Paqueta did not bet. They started the investigation because a friend or family member that lives in Brazil put a big bet on him getting the card. They will have to prove that Paqueta contacted family and friends and told them he was going to get a yellow card. Proving it just through videos is difficult, only by going into his mind would it be possible to prove that he did it on purpose, otherwise it's just an assumption.
If they punish him just with the video, other players will have to ask their friends to stop betting, because something suspicious could happen by coincidence and cause problems.
If he is banned from the Premier League but not from football, Flamengo will have its doors open for him to return. It would be ideal for him to return together with Vinicius Jr to reprise the attacking duo, but he alone would be a reinforcement.
I think it’s crazy that Football have way more strict laws/regulations than what my country have, 10 year ban from football for one bad mistake is crazy, in my country you get 10 years in prison for kidnapping someone😅
Zealand Google the spot fixing scandal for the Pakistan cricket team touring England in 2010 it was really similar to this and they all went to prison for it. This is serious serious shit
They were equally as subtle about it too. Remember that bloke who practically walked halfway down the wicket?
Might be wise to lawyer up fella
Anything less than baning him for life would be outrageous

Wow that mic arm.
Great video, but I would also point out the games they pointing is after the initial the original case, and if you a West Ham watching, he does this kind of play all the time. Also on is for a yellow card for the 94 min. Putting a clip out with guilt view in it will secure the public.
Now i understand why the random red cards in my fm save happen
Betting has ruined sports and the problem will only get more pervasive. The point of professional sports is for players and teams to compete at the highest level. Adding gambling to the equation completely undermines that concept. It’s time for people to stop acting like sports betting is separate from the playing of the sports itself. You have players being verbally harassed online for missing parlays or over/unders. You have players purposefully altering their game to win bets. You can’t even watch a game in any sport where you don’t see some kind of betting sponsor. This isn’t harmless fun, the truth is that sports betting, just like every other type of betting, is set up for the bookies to make money, and the actual integrity of the sport itself is of no importance to them.
I feel like this is just the beginning with this story ... no way this dude would risk this for some extra money when he's making so much already. I'm thinking blackmail like a potential Boston College basketball scandal of '78/79 which was mafia influenced
Watch him play lol he dives at EVERYTHING he’s never gonna be able to get away with this one lol

That's not true. They ban this because players have insider information that no one else has access to, sometimes not even the odds makers but definitely not the average fans. Imagine you know that Harry Kane's dog died this week and he has missed nearly every practice and has been sad, you only know this because one of your former teammates is now on Bayern and knows Kane personally. You bet on Harry Kane to not score a goal. That's unfair to everyone else except the athletes.
For this same reason, it should not be legal for NFL athletes to bet on college football here in the USA either.
I genuinely don’t know if I’ve heard Z say the F word before
be careful how you gesticulate with your arms with that tache...
That’s a normal tache mate
I’d imagine there would be a criminal investigation into this there was a cricket scandal similar and people were jailed
At least in Italy they had the guts to run an investigation and sanction a number of players (there were more in the past, just not as high profile as Tonali and Fagioli). The English just pull the wool over their eyes and do nothing at all to fight that scourge. League is rife with rigging.
They should just ban these betting players from football, not just for few months or one year. They get banned for a year and still have their wages running knowing they will get right back in to playing football, zero consequences. Ban them from having these luxury lives or people will never learn
No watchable highlights we'll take the word of moustache guy.
I thought this was a Tonali/Toney type situation till I read up on it yesterday. Boy oh boy. No problem for me if we don't see him again. There needs to be a clear line in this sand. Gambling addictions are forgivable. This isn't.
He must have been threatened or something. Surely, there’s no way he’s stupid enough to do this for such little gain????
Mustache Zealand sounds a lot more academic 🏟️⚽🧑🏻🏫
Why all the players I love? First Tonali, now Paqueta. I was really hoping to see Paqueta move onto a bigger club like City or Arsenal or even returning to us in Milan.
Pretty sure he had a try at it against Freiburg.
Thing is though, the guy who got 10 years made a bet himself. He directly made money from it. In Paqueta's case they must first prove IF the cards are forced, secondly IF he bet on it himself(in order to give the max penalty), thirdly IF he himself gave other persons the thumbs up to bet(to get a major punishment) and lastly if he himself made money from this. As it seems there's no actual proof of Paqueta making any bets at all himself. Also no proof of him having told people to bet on these matches.
So actually stating him to be effed is a bit too sensational at this stage. From a neutral standpoint this should be a minor infraction as the likes of Toney and Tonali actually themselves was betting. As I understand they have nothing on Paqueta in that department.
So I am myself not judging Paqueta to anything but raising an eyebrow. And we should also then ask ourselves why there even is the possibility of betting on players receiving a card in the first place. How about revoking the licenses for betting-firms actually allowing those kind of bets? Because they look insignificant and can be altered by individuals.
So many aspects in this question but the main target is malplaced af imho as this should not be bettable in any sense what so ever. The same with throw-ins, goalkicks, freekicks, cornerkicks and other stupidities that you can bet on. All the latter can be, and have probably also been, tampered with by officials. Start by limiting betting-companies' ways of influencing the game for their benefit. I do believe they're a greater threat to the sport than the players themselves. Betting's turnover is far greater than all of the Big leagues put together.
