The great ironry is that John the one who started the war to begin with by his assault of the son and insulting the father is the first one to fall in the war
Losing John who was one of the fan favorites on Peaky Blinders meant a lot to fans and the Shelby family because John was heart of the family and now Arthur and Tommy are left alone to do this gangster work. But sadly John was one of the reasons why the beef even started with the Changrettas but Esme was the reason John died at the end because she perverted him from going to that family meeting.
Fun fact! John and Michael are brothers in real life! Read somewhere that their parents couldn't watch the scene where both were shot. Love your reactions!❤
the amount of shows where i’m randomly watching - and he just SHOWS up and leaves a mark on the show😂😂😂 absolutely nuts how many roles adian gillen gets.
I know this is a very sad episode especially at the beginning but I couldn’t help but laugh because every time something would happen you would show your reaction and take the show off the screen and I’d just be intimately staring at yoda
That's because you're rooting for Tommy. He may be the lead, but he's the bad guy. Just like Walter White, Michael Corleone...They all started out to protect the family, but greed and paranoia made them do bad things that they couldn't come back from. At the end, they all end up alone, losing the ones they were trying to protect. The good, honest people who come in contact to the Peaky Blinders suffer - the Hancox child, the boxer who got beaten to death by Arthur, Grace's husband, Polly's lover in season 3, May Carleton and many more in the coming seasons- and Tommy actively covers up/causes the mess and moves on. Polly may be overly critical but she does so because she sees how the family is being run to the ground. There is no escape route because these guys close them whenever they open up, through bad decisions.
I honestly couldn't stand Polly during this season. I went from loving her character to hating her within a few episodes and I didn't really care much for her in season 5 either. I understand her issues but damn is she obnoxious. Constantly judging Tommy and how he runs the business. She's a complete hypocrite with her holier than thou bs. She never had a problem with it in the past and has lived a life of wealth and luxury thanks to their way of life, the business and Tommy.
She was obviously in PTSD. Losing your nephew and almost getting executed will make you realize that wealth and luxury is not worth it if what you have to give in return is your life and peace. Even Tommy was having it. Do you remember the regret in Tommy's voice when he asked Ada "is it a time machine?" He literally regretted his decisions.
That's called character development, she's the only counterpoint to Tommy in the family, circumstances made her that way, not everyone had to bow their heads to him. Being so extreme in their disagreements shows how much she suffers on the inside, and how different she is from Tommy in the way they handle things internally. Polly is such a tragic character, she's so real, none of that fantasy of stoic/sigma thinking that Tommy has, she's the closest from reality between the two. I absolutely loved everything about her character and i think she had the most interesting development in the series.
Considering this is quite a short series, the writers had to make things more dynamic and interesting. I too hated how they nerfed Arthur every season just to build Tommy up. But in all fairness, this show is one of the greatest written ones out there and I have minimum complaint of it.

tommy gets alot of unjustified blame with this john is the one who started the war tommy just had to back him because it was already too late if tommy had made him apologise would have just made them look weak
Aberama Gold really surprised me. I'd seen Aidan Gillen twice before, first in GoT and then in Maze Runner, and he seemed a little typecast in those. I was fully prepared for him to end up a traitor in Peaky Blinders too, but he showed off a bit of a different character this time.
Joe Cole (John) wanted to leave the show to persue other things as he felt Cillian just had all the limelight .He is also real life Brother of Michael (Finn Cole ).
A lot of Polly hate this season in these comments which isn't unwarranted but this war was started by the order to kill the changretta father (which she disagreed with escalating) which was given by the same man who gambled his family's lives that almost killed her and her son. Now her son is in the hospital from machine gun fire. She's getting her first taste of war that the boys came back from. It's bothersome but feels natural for her character to be overwhelmed and opposing to Tommy's decisions after that collection of events. Overall the mistake was John's that everything has come to this but she thought the company and therefore them were switching to legit business before all of it happened.

"Every stitch, stitched with blood. You dress well, but not as well as me." Luca is not talking about who dresses better. It's about family. Luca's family is very close-knit while Tommy's family is fragile, one died and the rest are angry at him. It's a metaphor. Just like what Alfie said to Tommy in season 2 episode 2 about cutting the cabinet in half, he was not talking about the cabinet but what he'd do about Tommy's body after getting shot.
Luca Changretta is honestly the best antagonist, his cause to go after Tommy is righteous vengeance for his father's death, and cares for the lives of his people. Also fun fact, in Italy, the Mafia families have female bosses, because most the men get arrested, or usually all died in vendettas against each other till there was no one left 😂
