On that point of FDR being a fascist is so funny because a group a industrialists did plot to overthrow him and establish a Mussolini style dictatorship. It was stopped when the veteran they approached to lead it blew the whistle. Of course, none of them suffered any consequences. I wonder why Ben never mentioned that part?
@@minderbart1 there is some sense to their choice, he was one of the most decorated officers in the US, he was popular with soldiers, had a recent history in crushing crime in Philadelphia, his father had been an influential politician, and himself had tried to become a politician. That said, it was still a bad choice for them, he voted for Thomas Norman, has supported the Bonus Army, and had already began his anti-war lectures, plus there was that whole incident where he ignored diplomatic protocol because he recounted rumours Mussolini had killed a child in a hit-and-run accident. Then again, these reasons might be why they approached him, despite his left leaning actions he would be a lot more popular and palatable to the population then a lot of other choices, and if he did support them, he would probably have to rely on their support to stay in power, leaving them the real powers behind the regime. That is just a theory though.

The most baffling part to me is when Ben DOESNT lie about fascism, which ends up undermining all his other nonsense (like he says Mussolini rejected Marx and embraced fascism, which undermines him saying Marx wasnt anti-fascist/communism and fascism are two sides of the same coin) Like... I understand his audience mostly wont recognize that, but whats he playing at contradicting all the shit hes said in previous videos??
@@IshtarNike Actually, what he does is the standard conservative tactic of starting with the desired conclusion and twisting the facts to match that belief. E.g. I don't like liberals and fascists are bad, so liberals must be fascists. This is also a tactic used to deflect from his side's own fascist behavior such as banning books, corporate-government control of public resources, scapegoating minorities and LGBTQ+, etc.
His audience will mostly never see criticisms of his views like this video because his audience isn’t actually interested in the truth. They are looking for confirmation bias. Understanding marx requires you to be literate and that’s what what marx actually said will never reach his followers.
Apparently I went to school at the same time as that rat. Funny how I work for a living doing something beneficial for everyone, and he lies like an asshole every day, and he's got way more money.
I also think he gaslights himself into actually believing some of the ridiculous stuff he has said in the past as well though. This is often the case with these types, its what I call “doing his own research”. Lol. I think appealing to his audience requires him to have to maintain that level of cognitive dissonance.
The communism is fascism argument makes sense when you examine real world nations that call themselves communist, and ignore that they're lying and that isn't what communism is.
Fascism is a reaction to communism. Their arguments for why the two diametrically opposed sides opppse each other are laughable, as well - they dislike each other because they're... The same and competing for the same followers? It's so easily disproven by just talking to members of either position, but Shapiro's target audience also doesn't get out, doesn't actually engage with opposing views, and is more dogmatic about neoliberalism than an Eagle Scout
The fascists didn't get their start out in Italy by _burning down the newspaper office of Italy's Socialist Party,_ ransacking the offices of individual labor unions, lending out their services to local security forces/local police in putting down striking workers, and straight up _murdering labor militants in the street,_ only for idiots to turn around decades later and argue that “Yeah no, the fascists were actually left wing?!”; Benito and his Blackshirts are rolling in their graves. 😑 It was not official policy of the Nazis (which is to be better understood as just, the _German_ brand of fascism) during the war that in the territories they occupied the first group of people, the undesirables, the subhumans, to be rounded up and sent to the camps was not Jews, not Slavs, not Romani people but *labor militants,* only for idiots to turn around and argue that “Uhhm, fascists were actually left wing, get your facts right!”, to say so is to be so *historically illiterate* (I'll indeed be coining that phrase). Ben is so intellectually dishonest. I watched his interview with Piers a couple days ago and his faux outrage and defense of the Israeli apartheid state was amusing. Can you make a video on Israel and the Palestinian conflict, and how they deprive Palestinians of their basic needs while stealing their land?
Ben and the sort of wing of politics he flies with is always for the most stupid, simple answers to questions possible. This absolute barbaric genocide and counter genocide in (what Rome named) Palestine has roots going back centuries. Not to 1900, no further back. Look at the recent spat of events, the Hamas attackers said that the motivation for the attack was because of Israel's attacks on worship at the Al-Aqsa mosque. Why would Israel attack Muslims at the Al-Aqsa mosque? Well Zionists believe that Muslim conquerors of the land centuries ago literally built the mosque there, on the most sacred site in the Jewish religion to forever dominate Jewish people and to wipe out their religion and them as a people. It's the equivalent of say the US invading Saudi Arabai, leveling the Kaaba and the Masjid al-Haram, building a Christian megachurch on the site and denying Muslims worship there stating that the site is now sacred to Christians, then demanding that all people in Suadi Arabia who refuse to convert pay onerous taxes or forcibly conscripting and converting their children. What do you think Muslims the world over would feel? So some Zionists flush with wealth and power from the 19th century pulled some strings for an explicitly genocidal project as revenge. The counteraction is Hamas an organization dedicated to murdering all Jewish people period. It's a maelstrom of evil and the best I can say is one side, Palestine is currently less guilty than the other. Less, but not without guilt. The solution is for both sides to forgive each other all past grievances and to SHARE including the temple mount, but I don't think that will ever happen sadly. So normal every day people wind up as unknowing pawns of genocidal fanatics on both sides.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Marx wasn't anti-fascist was because it wasn't a thing yet 🤷♂️ He would have 100,000% been vehemently against everything Fascist Germany and Italy stood for
His work wasn't exclusively reactionary, he was a master at predicting future developments and events. He concluded that due to the tendency of the rate of profit to fall capitalists will ultimately rally behind a powerful government leading them into rasing the profitability of labor against the will of the workers and bringing about war as a means to promote the interests of national capital against that of other nations, destroying productive capital and opening new markets.

In the name of saving society from the Red Menace, unions and strikes were outlawed. Union property and farm cooperatives were confiscated and handed over to rich private owners. Minimum wage laws, overtime pay, and factory safety regulations were abolished. Speedups became commonplace. Dismissals or imprisonment awaited those workers who complained about unsafe or inhumane work conditions. Workers toiled longer hours for less pay. The already modest wages were severely cut. In Germany by 25 to 40 percent, in Italy by 50 percent. In Italy, child labor was reintroduced. To be sure, a few crumbs were thrown to the populace. There were free concerts and sporting events, some meager social programs, a dole for the unemployed financed mostly by contributions from working people, and showy public works projects designed to evoke civic pride. Both Mussolini and H!tler showed their gratitude to their big business patrons by privatizing many perfectly solvent state-owned steel mills, power plants, banks, and steamship companies. Both regimes dipped heavily into the public treasury to refloat or subsidize heavy industry. Agribusiness farming was expanded and heavily subsidized. As an Anarchist: The primary fault for the failure is undoubtably not the Soviets, it is the completely reckless head-in-sand policy of the western powers. The Soviets carried on policy that undermined the military effort (mostly symbolic heavy-loss attacks) and alienated the anarcho-syndicalists from the Popular Front, but they were also essential support/deals in critical moments -- and the only state actor to do so in spite of their own weakened position in the 30s. It's understandable for anarchists to resent what happened, but it is realpolitik maneuvering to strengthen their bloc if they won. A major factor besides western inaction is also the Spanish government's fear of letting the people arm themselves in the early days, not wanting to cede that to CNT-FAI. That let the fascists gain critical ground and establish themselves (from previously being poorly positioned in Africa. The Navy went w/ the Popular Front and the fascist powers had to lift them out). Where the armories were accessed early the fascists were in large part beaten back. The Soviets had no impact on early decisions like that. Groups can simply have incompatible goals. If the western powers had bothered to do anything it would've moderated the aims of the singularly influencial Soviets later and probably kept POUM communists and anarcho-syndicalists on-side. Similarly in Germany Stalin would later admit it wasn't good policy to forbid a Popular Front and allow working with SocDems, and there communists were undoubtably the justifiably aggrieved group! The dominant 'Social Fascists', as he called them, worked with the literal far right street militias to beat down and murder the communists and then to be expected to work with them!? Citing FDR as a fascist-communist is one of the most insane things. The New Deal was designed to buy capitalism more time and did exactly that by begrudgingly enacting policies that weren't as life-draining as they are under standard capitalism. It was capitalism not on 100 % but on 90 %.
For anyone interested, "Blackshirts And Reds" is not only excellent but very accessible. Not nearly the commitment of "Das Kapital" or similar dense works. "Blackshirts And Reds" is short and readable, doesn't use complicated language, and explains persuasively why the USSR was good, actually. If you want arguments to use against your Trump uncle, this is your book!
Srsly thank god for FDR. I shudder to think how the 30s would have gone without him. He wasn't perfect by far but he saved a lot. Let's give credit where credit is due. He even tried to be a bit more radical but unfortunately ran up again the big business-owned SCOTUS at the time that slapped him down. Shabeero needs a real education.

@@CknWngMn Capitalism is the ordering of an economy towards the benefit of the Managerial Classes. The Bourgeoisie. The large Capital interest groups. Under Capitalism, the role of the government is the protection of private property and contractualism. Free markets are loosed and regulations are either lenient or non-existent. Capitalists hold massive political sway relative to the commoner, due to the huge disparity in wealth. The government is prone to corruption and lobbying. Corporatism is similar to state syndicalism, or guild socialism. A tripartite ordering of the economy towards the interests of Labour, Capital and the State. Enforced class cooperation, basically. The government is composed of “corporations” in the original sense of the word, not the contemporary one. Body parts of the government composed of representatives from each interest group who control all aspects of industry. Labour is given an equal say in the running of each business as the Managerial Class. Their negotiating of the management of the company is arbitrated by the State representatives, who is bound to favour the Labourers in most cases. Depending on the specific brand of Corporatism you’re referring to. The government owns all industry. Everything is an aspect of a larger State monopoly. There is nothing outside the State. The Managerial Classes no longer own the businesses, but they do still play a part in running them. It maintains hierarchy but enforces cooperation. It is authoritarian where Capitalism is “libertarian”. As for what you said about Capitalism leading to Corporatism, I’m not sure what you mean, as we’ve only had a few Corporate States in history, such as Fascist Italy and Estado Novo Portugal. Yes, modern Capitalism has incorporated certain doctrines of Corporatism, such as State monopolies, in some cases. But Capitalism turning to State Socialism is more likely in a purely statistical sense.
There's no "pronuncation" of a name, the sound is the name. Transliteration exists to describe language, that's why civilizations invent written forms while cargo cults copypaste text. And cause their children to revert to making eggplant emojis, because that's actually conceptual semiotics, not counter-intuitive cuckoldry like learning a bunch of words by heart with random grammar rules. "Du Bois" is not written in Latin, it's a failure of a phonetic representation of your own language. You have to have a mental Kanji in your head representing that it's a French word, to even start pronouncing it correctly, and with any culture you'd just "own it" by inventing such a logogram in your OWN language. With any civilization you'd organize to make those symbols national, and that's indeed required between Chinese and Japanese civilizations.

Smedley Butler... of all generals they chose Butler.
@@minderbart1 They did have a good taste on who to choose at least... unfortunately for them, he was an absolute gigachad

With so much american definitions of fascism, it wouldn't be even noticed if you had another one
The most baffling part to me is when Ben DOESNT lie about fascism, which ends up undermining all his other nonsense (like he says Mussolini rejected Marx and embraced fascism, which undermines him saying Marx wasnt anti-fascist/communism and fascism are two sides of the same coin)
Like... I understand his audience mostly wont recognize that, but whats he playing at contradicting all the shit hes said in previous videos??
Probably literally just a sloppy thinker who doesn't actually have a coherent idea of what any of these concepts and ideologies are. Embarrassing.
The problem is that you're watching from the perspective of someone with a functioning brain, which is the exact opposite of his audience.
His audience will mostly never see criticisms of his views like this video because his audience isn’t actually interested in the truth. They are looking for confirmation bias. Understanding marx requires you to be literate and that’s what what marx actually said will never reach his followers.
He says Marxism is not anti-fascist (somehow), and the fact that Mussolini rejected Marx is unrelated... Nonsense anyhow, but consistent nonsense.
Ben understands fascism very well. He is just lying.
Apparently I went to school at the same time as that rat. Funny how I work for a living doing something beneficial for everyone, and he lies like an asshole every day, and he's got way more money.
I also think he gaslights himself into actually believing some of the ridiculous stuff he has said in the past as well though. What about this idiot hakim? Where does he live? Iraq?

The whole “Communism is Fascism” argument is WILD to me, especially since it’s LITERALLY the opposite lol
The communism is fascism argument makes sense when you examine real world nations that call themselves communist, and ignore that they're lying and that isn't what communism is.
Not so wild, its just rewriting of history and a narrative to program ideology
Tbh "Communism is Fascism" is just like saying "Love is when Hate". Indeed, both are actually contradict.
It was not official policy of the Nazis (which is to be better understood as just, the _German_ brand of fascism) during the war that in the territories they occupied the first group of people, the undesirables, the subhumans, to be rounded up and sent to the camps was not Jews, not Slavs, not Romani people but *labor militants,* only for idiots to turn around and argue that “Uhhm, fascists were actually left wing, get your facts right!”, to say so is to be so *historically illiterate* (I'll indeed be coining that phrase).

Wrong. The only time when that even happened, was when those "bourgeoisie" were forced to choose between Marxism and Fascism / National Socialism. For obvious reasons, they chose the latter. "Whom Did the Fascists Support?
There is a vast literature on who supported the Naz!s, but relatively little on whom the Naz!s supported after they came to power. This is in keeping with the tendency of conventional scholarship to avoid the entire subject of capitalism whenever something unfavorable might be said about it. Whose interests did Mussolini and H!tler support?
In both Italy in the 1920s and Germany in the 1930s, old industrial evils, thought to have passed permanently into history, re-emerged as the conditions of labor deteriorated precipitously.
Both states guaranteed a return on the capital invested by giant corporations while assuming most of the risks and losses on investments. As is often the case with reactionary regimes, public capital was raided by private capital."

And if things go wrong? I would love for you to do a video about anarchism from a MLM perspective or a slight response to youtubers like Anark on the Spanish Revolution as I have trouble weeding through info to get at what really happened since both sides tell different stories on why it failed
Much like shot-in-the-back Spanish anarchists it's revolting. It just also happened to be absolutely essential.

"That's not _real_ capitalism"
@@coremitsi922 corporatism literally isn’t capitalism though, they’re two different economic systems.
@@Seanain_O_hEarchaiwhat is the difference, and why does capitalism lead to corporatism
Btw pretty sure du bois rejected the French pronunciation of his name to reclaim it as his own.
