Learned the importance of protection against mold when I got a really bad respiratory infection that had me coughing up blood from working on a bathroom renovation project. I’m only 21 and understand now why mold is a big concern to many people, especially to those who have respiratory illnesses

Before rebuilding they should install a pressure relief system.
What it entails is a crock or a sump pit then dig down to the bottom of the foundation footing perimeter. Install the 4” perforated drain piping into a sump pit with a sump pump. Plumb to outside. then pour drainage gravel over perimeter piping 3” from concrete floor. Pour concrete floor allowing for an expansion joint along the walls. You have to lower the water table before rebuilding.

Alrighty... alot he said is ok... but they didn't need to take out all the studs or the whole wall.. 2 to 4 feet from the ground or 2 feet from the mold..infected area.. wood can be treated with a fungicide and encapsulate and wire brush of course if it's not bad like this place..containment yes... negative air yes.. but they didn't treat the mold to kill it before they started ripping into it they just bagged it in a contaminated area...dust on the bags they use..spores go on that since it's kicked up in the air..now they brought it thru out the whole house

Now they often seem like an afterthought of jobs they already have going on, and less about jobs they seek out with intention to film with completeness. Unfortunately traditional remediation methods, an offshoot of asbestos removal techniques, do nothing for the rest of the house. Mold is not just where you can see it, mold is an airborn molecule and if you have mold in the basement you have mold spores in the HVAC ducts, the walls, the drains, the carpet, the furniture etc., especially in a house this old. The only way to be sure the mold problem is solved is to have a Pure Maintenance licensee come and use their patented dry vapor non-toxic whole house process to be sure the mold problem is really solved. Unfortunately traditional remediators can only address what they can see which is effectively "spot cleaning" a much bigger problem. I love This Old House, but they really need to invite a Pure Maintenance licensee on their show to solve the mold problem once and for all.

Wrong, Hydrogen Peroxide is used to create a sterile environment in food preparation! That means it kills and does a fantastic job. Add black light and it really goes nuts. You are refering to bleach as bleach does not kill but the change in color is from oxygen deprivation which smothers the mold and it cannot grow.

Your situation is not hopeless. Both you and your company can take the necessary actions that will, at least for you and your clients, solve the problem.
      1) Take notes on every contractor you hire and put them on a naughty or nice list.
      2) If you hire them three times for a the same type of job, and you have to micro manage them all three times in order to insure the job is done correctly and to the level of quality you expect and demand. That contractor goes on the naughty list.
      3) If they just do the job correctly; they go on the nice list.
      4) When you have a job to contract out. You contact the contractors on your nice list first. The contractors on your naughty list; only get hired when you have no other options.
Put this into practice and after a couple years of doing so, let the fact that you are doing this be known. Once you publicize this, all the high quality contractors will want to work for your company.
You will also want to set up your company website so that it can handle the demand it will undergo for both contractors that want to work for you and clients that want to hire you.
A good developer will be able to set up a database that allows you to determine quickly if a contractor has failed your quality test in the past. And by insuring that all your contractors are licensed and certified, you can easily look them up with their contractor number.

As someone who used to work for a major restoration company I know these guys hated this job because of those cameras. If they were alone there's no way they'd be wearing tyvecs or respirators, they might not have even worn any masks at all if the walls weren't too bad 😂

I had some mold remediation done on my house and they didn't even use masks... Thought that was pretty insane but whatever lol

@@shaquileoatmeal7365 it's really not that uncommon. A little bit of mold probably won't hurt but if it's like a room full of mold with the spores in the air, that could be a problem

If that was my house I would leave it open and not bother with refinishing the basement. I may just coat the whole thing with a mold inhibiting paint though.

Relax, guys don't confuse mold with Plutonium. Lot's of 90 year old grandpas and grandmas out there that survived mold exposure over the years!
Nose hairs are an amazing invention by the way!
