United Ireland
Easy to shout, harder to achieve. The worse case scenario would be a United Ireland with 100,000 ultra annoyed protestants in the far North East overwhelming the Irish Governments ability to maintain order. 100,000 or so ultra militant Republicans was hard for the British government to control. Even though they had the resources of a country with the population 60 million. An Irish government with the resources of a population of 8 million is going to struggle if it has a problem with a militant minority especially if it is likely supported from just over the water.

There is no utopia anywhere. There were plenty of loyalist killings during the troubles. Plenty. In fact they killed more civilians. Northern Ireland was supposed to be temporary. When Southern Ireland was set up, the arrangement was that the 6 counties would join Southern Ireland after a period, to give the Northern Irish time to adjust or move to the mainland. A figure of 6 years was initially suggested. No idea what happened to this temporary agreement. It conveniently got forgotton. It may be a shock to Loyalists, but people in England aren't interested in Northern Ireland and would not be bothered if NI ceased to be part of the UK.
