Of all the many versions.. Elvis does it best 🙏 I am 44 and yet whenever I listen to Elvis's song the same feelings I got when I first heard him 34 years ago. His voice really moves your inner spirit & your deepest emotion, ❤️🌹
Elvis's version is my favourite too. Better than Robera Flacks version.
However, Ewan McColl who wrote it stated Elvis's version was the worst he had heard.

Just heard the Roberta Flacks version on the radio...so naturally I had to listen to Elvis version...love both versions...but having been stuck on Elvis from the early 1970s...his version on any cover I always prefer....the emotion he puts over in a song always sturs the soul....

I am uruguayan and don' t know Graceland. I only went to Miami but my mother went to Graceland and brought some magazines fotographs etc. She told that it was fantastic.

Elvis had this song before Roberta Flack recorded it. RCA was so incompetent in they way it handled (or mis-handled) Elvis. Tom Parker was even worse.

First, let me just say that I do like this song. HOWEVER, the tempo should've been slowed way down. There's no doubt in my mind. I'm not saying that it should've been as slow as the original, BUT, at least slower than the finished record.
This song begs to be sung very slow and very deliberate.
Just my criticism as a lifelong fan of the king.
Brad, not disagreeing with you, but the original was a written in the late 50's as a acoustic guitar folk song. I'm assuming you are thinking Roberta Flacks vision is the "original" you write about above? If I'm wrong on my assumption, I apologize. If it of interest, the original writer of the song really disliked "cover" versions of his songs...so, I'm thinking you and him agree about Elvis' version! :)

I already knew that Roberta did NOT have the original version.
Elvis's version is sped up in terms of tempo, and that's why it's not good.
If you really want to hear the true masterpiece, listen to Celine Dion's live version from 1998. It's here on UA-cam.

I only recently learned of the history of this song...I was the one, who before learning, that Roberta Flack's version was the original! Ha! Didn't know it was originally written as a "folk" song. I came across a version, here on youtube, by Miley Cyrus which I personally think is great. Maybe check-it-out, if you haven't heard it. Really gave me goose-bumps. Thanks again Brad. Take care!

The utterly incredible thing about Celine's version is that it's live! She wasn't in a recording studio where everything can be made perfect.
In 1998, she sang it live, it's here on UA-cam, AND the tone of her voice is OTHERWORLDLY! Severe goosebumps.
