Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men's game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy-which has been awarded to the winner since 1916-is inscribed with names such as Koepka, McIlroy, Woods, Mickelson, Nicklaus, and Player. The 2022 PGA Championship is set to take place between 19-22 May at Southern Hills Country Club. The reigning champion is Phil Mickelson.

Yeah they are. I think he averaged 333yds off the tee today. He had two drives of 378yds. That’s just nuts.
Good highlights and the music wasn't too loud, could easily hear the commentary. Not sure why people are whinging it's great to have highlights of this quality compared to the tour ones!
I like the highlights but I could’ve done without the music.

@@Darkware880 he'll definitely have some adversity, but with everything clicking right now, even if he loses one aspect for a bit, he should be able to hang in there. Strong wedge play and putting is a great sign for him, as that's usually what kills him.
@@Darkware880 Yeah it kinda is but it's also quite possible that he will. And if not, it'll be very close. He's pull it off before, so it's not unlikely that he does in my opinion. Guy won 4 majors, just hasn't won one in a long time.
@@lrn_news9171 His swing has become too unpredictable over 4 days. It's like a supercar that breaks down every other weekend. But the previous Mr Consistent, Jordan Speith, has been struggling for a few years too. Golf is just a heck of a game, maybe.
He still puts too much spin on his short irons which cost him a couple times today. I think he pretty much got everything out of the round that he could have.
Things will get interesting with the wind they’re expecting.

I agree but he can’t seem to put it together for 4 straight rounds. Hopefully that changes this week. I could see this tournament ended up being a dominant win for him
Yeah when he's on his A game that guy is untouchable. Just had parts of his game that is rather inconsistent such as his putting and wedge play.
@@brennanswanson2392 It's kind of exaggerated to say he can't put it together for 4 rounds since he's clearly winning a lot of events and makes more T10s than any player out there. I've seen Rory make like 5-6 consecutive T10 finishes lol
@@lrn_news9171 It is not exaggerated. In fact, when he just finishes in the top 10, he actually has one bad round, or 2-3 bad holes that cost him the chances of winning. That's how good he is. He can play an average to bad round and finish top 5 with a world class field.
Look at the 2022 Masters. His first two rounds were anything but clean (in tough conditions though), worked his way into the weekend. His third round was decent but had some regrettable mistakes. Round 4 was Rory's A+ game on a showdown, very few mistakes, bogey free.
In fact, we can say about the same for Cameron Smith and Scottie Scheffler this year. When they have their best game from start to finish they're really hard to catch. When they make critical mistakes they can still finish in the top 5. Cameron Smith had 2 doubles and a triple at the Masters, remember that.
We've been saying the same for Rory since his last major win, he has stretches of pure brilliance mixed with too many (tactical ?) mistakes and in majors, very bad starts (between 2016 and 2020, his round 1s in majors were about 2,5 strokes worse than his round 2-3-4s; and that's about a 5 stroke delta with Brooks Koepka's round 1s, for example)
To see him leading a major on Thursday evening is now a really, really good sign.
this was the old Rory today! if he continues to drive and putt like this, he could win by +8 strokes again.
I feel like his wedge game is much better, far more accurate and controlling trajectory better

Rory is also insanely good with his irons, especially mid to long irons.
And he didn’t botch his wedges either, just a good round of golf.
I watched it all and every great drive at first I was preparing for a trash wedge to not take advantage but it didn’t happen

I felt the opposite. It was distracting and not the right fit. It’s the instrumentals of that Imagine Dragons song, Believer. I’m not a fan of the song anyway, but that aside this type of song is too distracting/unfitting if you’re also having commentary in there.

My mate works on Lafortune Park Golf Course near Southern Hills. He said the sponsors have told Rory to wind his neck in playing so well next to Tiger. Hence why Rory has took his foot off the gas today and old pigeon leg is still going.

I uploaded highlights of Tiger at the PGA Championship a few years ago with music and people HATE on it in the comments haha. Now I'm just realizing that people do that if there's music at all on the highlights. Not sure why people don't like music.
Because the music rarely fits and just represents the personal preference of the uploader.
Just really getting into golf, but question for someone. Why the hell would they leave what looks like a broom just laying on the grass at :30 mark?

@@TheBedheadman that’s what I figured it was. Just blows my mind that they leave it laying there to mess up a shot.
It’s a rake for the bunker. That’s definitely an odd placement though. You usually want to leave it on the side of a bunker pointing towards the hole so you don’t stop balls from rolling in the bunker. A caddie most likely left it there on accident earlier in the day.

Yes, have seen that a few times, I remember when he hit a drive on the 6th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where the shot tracer said it went into the water but it went over and was in the fairway.

Rory, as soon as gets close to contend, starts missing putts. Yesterday he coulde have EASILY finished 6 under par with all the missing putts...and when he have the chance to putt pressure in the easy par 17, he bogeyed. The masters "Rally" was amazing for the broadcasters and patrons, but in reality he was not even close to win the masters.
