Hail, Éomer, loyal King of the Riddermark! May your sword ever stay sharp, your shield unbroken, and your steadfast loyalty to Rohan endure through the ages. The people of the Mark stand proud under your banner.
He is basically the typical man of Rohan: tall, blonde, brave, fearless, loyal and awesome! Furthermore he is one of the lucky few of the Kings who knew/met the Halflings, the Ents, the Lady and Lord of Lórien, the Lord of Imladris, the Prince of the Woodland Realm, dwarwen royalty ,an istar, the High-King of the Reunited Kingdom, married the daughter of the Lord of Dol Amroth, her sister married the Steward of Ithilien. Plus his reigns was the longest of the Éorlingas. I don't think any of the Kings of Rohan can say that.
2nd longest reign there was a king of the Eorlingas who if I remember correctly lived over 100 and was named the Old and bro so stubborn to die of old age his son became king at the age of I think 60-70😂
Eomer did indeed get to see many strange and wonderful things that he might not have otherwise. Like you mentioned, he got to meet many of the greatest heroes of the age, as well as some that have been around for thousands of years. And it was all because he chose to follow his instincts and trust people like Aragorn, who turned out to be the king of Gondor, and his greatest ally and brother-in-arms. He wasn't the wisest, oldest, most experienced, most educated, or anything like that. He was always the faithful soldier, using his might to try to make things right, as far as he or any others could tell.
I'd have to agree, the entire cast of the Peter Jackson LoTR trilogy were so well cast and did such an amazing job at bringing their characters to life, some even made their characters larger than life. The whole crew both on and off screen of the LoTR trilogy were just one of those special combination of things coming together so nearly perfectly that everything was literal perfection. As for Karl Urban himself, he's brought quite a few movie characters to life so far! Eomer, Judge Dredd, Skurge, Vaako, the space marine Reaper in Doom... yeah Karl's made those characters (a few of them kinda side chars) stand out enough in those movies he was in. As for Eomer, in a band of immortal elves, dwarves, basically superhumans like Gandalf and Aragorn, he was a total badass for a normal human! If he was able to fight alongside Faramir and Boromir, I'm sure they'd get along swimmingly seeing as Eomer's basically the Boromir of the Rohirrim.
My personal head canon is that because Eomer and Eowyn are siblings and Faramir and Lothiriel are cousins, the two couples get together regularly and stay close throughout their lives. I bet Eomer and Faramir would have a lot of respect for one another and get along well.
@@The_Tradie_Trainer A little?! A LOT, especially in Faramir's case. It proves to me that the filmmakers did not understand Faramir at all - especially why Faramir was worthy to become Steward of Gondor, but Boromir was not.
3:16 I love that detail because that's what Melkor did to Fëanor and Fingolfin. Granted Fëanor already disliked his half brother but you'd think Wormtongue would have had it easier since these two were cousin's. Nevertheless, their bond and loyalty persevered over these lies.
Whenever you see an elf, man and a dwarf in the Riddermark, you should ask the question: What business does an elf, man and a dwarf have in The Riddermark?
I think you missed one important fact about Eomer's ancestry - he and his father were direct descendants of Eorl the Young, since their ancestor was Eofor, the third son of Brego, second king of Rohan. As far as I understand, after the death of Teoden Eomer was the last living direct male descendant of Eorl and this was one of the reasons why he became the new king of Rohan. Of course, the will of king Theoden was important, but I do not think Theoden was able to change the law of inheritance. And the fact that Eomer was a son of Theoden's sister also mattered, but since Theoden had several sisters I doubt Eomer was unique in that regard.
Really enjoyed this video. :) Eomer is truly one of the most admirable and honourable characters, definitely under appreciated and underrated in my opinion.
You arent...at all...and his reaction to seeing his sister on the battlefield...Mr Urban pulled that off flawlessly...I felt his pain...and do every time I watch the scene.
Mention of him in this video reminds me that I'd love to see a video(s) on Prince Imrahil, the Swan Knights, and Dol Amroth in general. Very glad you did this video. While I'd read the books twice years ago, I'd no idea how drastically the movies had changed things around, creating entirely new situations for Eomer and giving his best lines to Theoden. I've really come to see the movies as a separate entity, so many changes were made. I suppose that is the nature of mythology: over time the tale is retold, but drastically altered in parts. It is certainly true with all the ancient mythologies.
Finally, my favourite character! Andy Serkis does Eomer’s ‘death’ rally perfectly, gives me chills every time! Eomer’s poetry are the best lines in the book imo.
You guys and your videos always just are so top notch! I mean the production quality I don't think could get any better than it is and I mean that. I think JRR Tolkien himself would give you his endorsement that's how good this channel is
I think the fact Théoden only had sisters and no brothers is why he shows more care to Éowyn than Éomer. Her safety is paramount and she brings him back to his younger days when he was far more hale.
I like to imagine Theoden was closest to Theodwyn since they were the closest in age. I also like to imagine Theoden was friends with his brother in-law Eomund, which is why he so eagerly adopted his niece and nephew as his own children.
I had forgotten that he said that, because when I heard the Riders yell this in the movie, I didn’t realize that Jackson took the lines from him and used them as they rode onto the field of Pelennor
19:00 One of my favorite scenes from "The Return of the King" movie, when Aragorn charges forward towards the Black Gate, then Merry and Pippin, then everyone else.
Eomer is the first King of Rohan from the 3rd royal line. His family are the Lords of Aldburg, a fortress town as well as among the earliest settlements In Rohan. The first Lord of Aldburg is Eofor, 3rd son of Brego, 2nd King of Rohan as well as the grandson of Eorl the Young, First King of Rohan. The Lords of Aldburg has an unbroken patrilineal lineage. The 1st line of the Kings of Rohan is a patrilineal lineage of Eorl the Younger until the death of Helm Hammerhand. The 2nd line of kings is descended from Hild, sister of Helm Hammerhand. The ascension of Eomer as King of Rohan after the death of King Theoden heralds the return of the patrilineal descent of Eorl the Young through the lineage of his grandson Eofor on the Throne of Rohan.
My favorite thing is the beef between gimli and eomer over his insult of Galadriel. One of my favorite things from being a movie fan to becoming a fan of the books.
Another good man of Middle-earth... as usual, one must worry about his ancestors and the concept of entropy from the Fourth Age onwards. Really nice, seeing his movie appearance be used for art that's otherwise faithful to the books. Same goes for Théoden. 3:35: Wait, I thought the horse drowned on the Greyflood. 6:14: Complete with high quality elven cloaks with camouflage capabilities. The Riders only noticed them because the Three Hunters deliberately showed themselves after restless motionlessness. Gotta like Háma. Ive probably read the lotr trilogy 100 times. The only moment that really gets me from the books is the last ride of Theoden. When he arrives at Minas Tirith and sees it besieged and despairs. Then the sun breaks free from the clouds of Mordor with the arrival of dawn. He sees the sun and regains his hope and determination. He grabs a horn and gives such a mighty blast that the horn shatters. Then he musters the riders and charges into a seemingly hopeless and desperate battle that ultimately culminates in his death. I cant read about it without getting emotional. I hope one day to achieve the level of heroism that Theoden did that day. And the glorious death that he earned.

For me, in order to TRULY appreciate Tolkien, I had to serve in the infantry. Please Google what battles Tolkien lived through....YES, LIVED THROUGH. If you don't know, Tolkien was at THE SOMME (if you google it, you KNOW). Take a breath, and TRY to realize given the data, in some miniscule way, what that man and MILLIONS of others went through or died being a part of. Picture you, YOURSELF, with children while in war. Argue with yourself that You, YOURSELF, would have the wherewithal to think of your children and wife or husband and write them pleasant stories that made THEM, NOT YOU, feel at ease....for ONE SECOND consider YOU, GOING THROUGH WAR, have the courage, mental fortitude, selflessness....WHATEVER, you have the selflessness to write to your family in such a way as to make THEM feel at ease, NOT YOU. That right there is a TRUE father and parent............... at war, THINKING of COMFORTING his children and wife. Even more so, Tolkien, NEVER commended his service and experience, nor leveraged it to make a point as I have done to get those few who read it to perhaps think on it.
@@kentvesser9484 We never learn the details of how Éomer got separated from his horse or showing it took him to get to Imladris after that happened. It must have been something like Bear Grilles surviving for weeks, finding food and water along the way.🤔

Matt is great, but he is not the GOAT. That title has to go to Yoystan of Men of the West. He has been doing these kinds of videos for ten years. His tenth year anniversary is next month.
I am pretty sure that Éomer and King Elessar fought the Armies of the South and East that still resisted the outcome of the War or the Ring. Some fighting continued.
Please please please. I want a video on the significance of seven stars throughout Tolkeins writings. I'm a huge history buff and the constellation Pleiades (known as the "Seven Sisters" is significant to almost all ancient civilizations. I'd love your take on Tolkiens adaptation of the Pleiades.
It's funny because movie Eomer is so different; basically Erkinbrand, and so a number of these lines I can imagine msny newer fans simoly attributing to Theoden, as well as imagining moments where, at least by their reckoning, Eomer wasn't actually present, except he was, and the movies changed things. Im not trying to belittle either book, nor film, but just note that Eomer is a realy good example of how the two could be very different, even if both might be fine. So, this is a totally unrelated question, but do we know how Saruman came to possess a horde of loyal Orcs? By the time we see him, Saruman doesn't catch me as a man who ever leaves Isengard, or dors things on his own. He remains aloof, in his tower, and deals with things impetiously. I know Tolkien's magic system doesnt allow for long-distance teleportation, yet I struggle to imagine the White Wizard clamoring up, onto a horse, riding for days, to Rivendell, and campong under the stars, while gnawing on road tack, and jerky, but neither putting up with roadside homes, or inns, yet we also never see a full staff manning Orthanc, and seeing to their master's needs, so I don't know. Where I am going with this is it seems odd Orcs of any number would just cross the land, unnoticed, and upon arriving at Isengard, be taken in, yet also unbelievable that the great Saruman would depart his tower, journey to some locale where Orcs dwell, and negotiate thatctheybreturn to Isengard with him, to hole up, and build an army. Why do they serve him, instead of tried to kill him? Why don't they serve the Dark Lord? I know not every Orc is loyal to Sauron, but im not entirely sure why, especially as his evil is now on the rise? How did Saruman acquire his initial troops, and why did they serve him, specifically?
If I had to guess, I would say that it happened after Sauron caught Saruman on the Orthanc Palantir. Sauron likely sent Orcs to Saruman to build an army closer to Eriador. Also, at this time, Sauron had already started breeding the half-Orc Uruks. Those would have been sent to Saruman. Saruman only needed to use his voice to convince the Uruk-Hai to follow his commands.
Hello... Amazing content in this channel... Trying to post in many videos to see if it can get your attention. I have two questions: 1) in the mapped videos, you use some avatars to represent the characters and people's. Who is the artist or illustrator used in this avatars? Could you please share? 😅 2) I really would love to know more about the illustrations you use for each video. Promoting the authors maybe, it could be a way to make it more popular. I am just familiarized with the most famous names. Keep up the good work! 😂
One of my favorite passages. And I'm always in wonder that a man who is living the life of a staid professor can so effortlessly get inside the skin of a young Warrior.
I know these characters are fictional. I promise I know that. But any time their deaths are talked about, my stomach does a little drop. My brain knows the truth, but my heart does not lol great video again.
You know what could be an interesting "what if" episode? How about "What if Sauron got the Ring in Dol Guldur". What would Sauron have done, if he somehow received the Ring during the events of the Hobbit; sometime after Biblo had found the Ring. Would the White Council not have been able to expel him? Maybe he would have sent the Witch King, to secure Barad-dur and had another of the 9 in Minas Morgul.
I have been waiting for this video longer than Faramir has been waiting to hear Denethor tell him 'good job'.
Except Faramir never got it from Denethor :)

Great video!! Probably my favorite character of all LOTR
Éomer really was the Aragorn of Rohan. Paragon of leadership and unbreakable loyalty.
Now I'm thinking about if Eomer got to make that speech in the movie rather than Theodin after finding Eowyn and I feel we may have been robbed
@ Nerd of the Rings: I need you to make Audio books with you reading the Hobbit and LOTR. I absolutely could listen to you narrate stories forever.
3:36 they lent Boromir a horse. As if Gondor had no horses on their own.
Theirs are probably better than Gondor’s
Gondor has no horse. Gondor needs no horse.
Perhaps he lost his horse along the way to some accident and thus was on foot when he arrived.
It seems that Gondorians mostly bought horses from Rohorrim anyways, and horses used by Rohirrim were better than those they sold to Gondor.

We never learn the details of how Éomer got separated from his horse or showing it took him to get to Imladris after that happened. It must have been something like Bear Grilles surviving for weeks, finding food and water along the way.🤔
is Andrew Carlial related to Robert Carlial from 28 weeks later running scared with Paul walker ??? I heard the name and was like oh wow cool . other than that Met Karl urban at a comic con Very cool down to earth man . lord of the rings rules
Its grest to read, listen and sense the parts of the words that in the lotr-return of the king movie, theoden said before the march
18:38 When you order an Eomer and Aragorn from Temu
Eomer is also a decendent of Numenor, through his grandmother.
THIS is why we love you, this is why you’re the GOAT! ❤
Matt is great, but he is not the GOAT. That title has to go to Yoystan of Men of the West. He has been doing these kinds of videos for ten years. His tenth year anniversary is next month.
I take so many screenshots on your videos!!
Good work y
Boss ❤❤❤❤
Thank You
Also what would happen if the silmarills were found before the one ring ?
Amazona vídeo!
Yay! New nerd of the rings!
Video recommendation / question, what happens to the mortal men who seek Valenor ? And what happens when f they make it ?
Hello... Amazing content in this channel... Trying to post in many videos to see if it can get your attention. I have two questions:
1) in the mapped videos, you use some avatars to represent the characters and people's. Who is the artist or illustrator used in this avatars? Could you please share? 😅
2) I really would love to know more about the illustrations you use for each video. Promoting the authors maybe, it could be a way to make it more popular. I am just familiarized with the most famous names.
Keep up the good work! 😂
I hope the ending of War of the Rohirrim gives us a little bit more of his rule (My understanding is that it's King Helm in the movie.)(
Yeah, it’s set 200 years before so unlikely to be any reference. Although with Eowyn narrating there could be something in there
A video to Hear more about the island of the vampire that I think it was Sauron flees to would be cool
For once more lust of battle was on him; and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king: the lord of a fell people.
One of my favorite passages. And I'm always in wonder that a man who is living the life of a staid professor can so effortlessly get inside the skin of a young Warrior.
Truly a mighty and valiant man/king!!
Very well done. Your videos are always very good, but this one is a bit above average I think.
Sick video. You forgot the part where he speared a harad commander and took out 2 mumakils 😂
You got me to Tolkiens works
That's my bro!😂😂😁🧝♂️🧝♀️🧙♂️🗡🐎🛡🍻
Also, everyone knows that the Rohirrum muster here...😳
