- Director Stefan Herheim stages Richard Wagner's THE VALKYRIE/DIE WALKÜRE as part of his new RING OF THE NIBELUNG / DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN tetralogy on main stage - under the baton of General Music Director Donald Runnicles and with the captivating cast of Brandon Jovanovich, Andrew Harris, John Lundgren, Lise Davidsen, Annika Schlicht, Nina Stemme, Flurina Stucki, Aile Asszonyi, Antonia Ahyoung Kim, Irene Roberts, Ulrike Helzel, Karis Tucker, Nicole Piccolomini, Beth Taylor, Eric Naumann as well as the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Bizarr....Nach der Vorlage eines Eurovision Song Wettbewerbs vor einigen Jahren, hätte man das Feuer im Klavier entfachen können! Das hätte gut dazu gepaßt.
Errrr so Notung is in a piano and there are extras (chorus) in Die Walkure and characters come out of the piano.....ooooooook! Someone was tripping balls when they thought that lot up!
Frankly, if you can't compliment the music with a decent production...don't bother!
Gibt es eigentlich noch fähige Wagner-Regisseure?
Oder nur noch Leute wie Herheim?
Eine absolut belanglose Produktion, die aus kurzlebigen Ideen besteht, keinen roten Faden hat und einfach völlig neue Geschichten erzählt, wie die vom behinderten Kind Sieglindes, das umgebracht wird, um freie Bahn für die Flucht mit Siegmund zu haben. Dazu ein langweiliges Einheitsbühnenbild und nicht unbedingt herausragende gesangliche Leistungen machten meinen Abend im Oktober zu einer öden Angelegenheit. Auch das Orchester war nicht gut aufgelegt und Runnicles holte zu wenig aus der Partitur heraus. Das Rheingold letzte Woche gab mir dann den Rest. Kein Interesse mehr an den weiteren Teilen.

Playing the piano in an exaggerated, forceful, and maudlin fashion during ""O hehrstes Wunder" (among other silly aspects of this director's staging) makes a mockery of the music. One wonders if the copulating crocodiles from the Bayreuth/Janowski Ring were also shipped to Berlin to participate in this travesty. Stop it.
Terrible staging and singing. Lise Davidsen on the other hand sounds wonderful
This production doesn't look very appealing (at least in what's shown in this trailer). Such a pity.
Large shoes to fill if they want to replace the Goetz Friedrich's EXTRAORDINARY production of the Ring
I like Herheim‘s work, maybe the aesthetics are sometimes odd, but usually his work is very intelligent and he makes the singers act very intensely, what I appreciate a lot.
Still, I don’t understand at all why they couldn’t keep the phenomenal and monumental Friedrich-Ring. That was a stupid decision.
@@Bumblebeebeebee I agree with you. This trailer might not do justice to the overall insight of his production.
There are Ring production's that should remain in the repertory of opera houses: the Herz's Leipzing Ring, Chereau's 76 for Bayreuth and the Friedrich's for Berlin.
It could actually be very interesting that those Opera houses allow for new productions and also allow those emblematic ones for performances every 5 years or so
It´s simply boring and a collage of ideas. The basic idea: People with luggage escaping from...you guess where and why. It´s clearified in Rheingold and has nothing to do with the Ring. The singing is mediocre and Runnicles has nothing exciting to tell. This production will leave soon, I hope.
@@Bumblebeebeebee I must be honest about Herheim´s aesthetics. I saw Rheingold last week and what I saw reminded me of a school´s play. Sometimes silly, sometimes with a hint of a clever idea but it needs the glew to stick together which it hasn´t.
