Thanks for sharing Bootlegs were wonderful memory for me You keep yours in tip top condition - congrats. Best of luck getting that missing Ultra Tracks
Hi, For me too, such fabulous memories of reading about them and finally seeing some! I always try my best to keep them as mint as possible and I’m always on the search for those elusive items! Stay well!
Thanks for the shout out Dave! I'm glad I could get you one of the press conference discs. Excellent show 👏 You definitely hit, what I consider, the cream of the bootlegs. All the Best!!
Hi Presley, No problem and thanks again for the brilliant press conference 45! Appreciate that and for me also these are a fine set of Bootleg LPS! Thanks for watching!
Hi Sailor Sam, I actually got rid of some bootleg vinyl LPs when I started to buy the CDs and I’ll probably be showing those too at some point ! Stay well!
Hi Julia, Thanks for watching! Ahh yes the real early days of Bootlegs and a very fascinating part of collecting too! Appreciate that very much! Stay well!
Hi Harry, Oh definitely love collecting bootlegs ! Can be a frustrating thing thou , especially back when the quality was pretty terrible , but that was all part of the learning experience! Stay well!
Dave My Friend, great video interesting bootlegs, I have bootlegs in my collect bought the years ago, I do have Willowbrook Rehearsals, Snapshots, Watching Rainbows, to mention a few, I always looked and purchased Lennon bootlegs, Teddy Boy, and the sound quality was very good, Dave how have you been My Friend , it’s been a while since the last video , but I am here Friend, Dave TakeCare, BeSafe, Stay Well, Bless You, Steve
Hi Steve, All good here my friend! Luckily I didn’t have too many bad experiences with bootlegs to put me off , especially on sone with high prices, but these days they are thankfully much better quality and kinda easy to obtain! Thanks for watching! Stay well!
Great video Dave. Really enjoyed that mate, i think the Beatles played in Paris June 1965. You have a beautiful collection Dave, brilliant. Have a great week mate and stay safe.
Hi Dave, thanks a lot for showing these bootlegs. Especially the Swinin' Pic bootlegs are absolutely fantastic. What an incredible designe and presentation of the records. It's a shame that these great records are not available anymore. I can remember in the late 80, you found them also in normal record stores here in Germany. I got a 3 disc collection of BBC recordings but in the mid 2000 I sold all my vinyls as I had no turntable any more. Today I regret it...
Hi, Glad you enjoyed! Yes , kinda hard to get the ultra rare trax vinyl around now but they do turn up! If memory serves me well I believe that originated from West Germany, so I’m not surprised they sold them in shops! I know lots of people who basically got rid of big collections who now wished they hadn’t! Stay well!
Hi, Glad you enjoyed! The ultra rare series certainly became the game changer in the late 80’s and will always be a special time for me. Would certainly be great to hear sone of those concerts cleaned up somewhat! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for showing, Dave; another great video. Been collecting them since 1969, first one being Kum Back. There's a lot of good ones that would make for fine legit releases. Those Nems and Swinging Pig release were fantastic, especially back when they came out. That book by Belmo is priceless for the collector.
Hi, No problem and thanks for watching! Right from the early days of Bootlegs and your right there is certainly many good ones that would make great releases, sadly the record companies can’t see what we would like most times! It was certainly an incredible time hearing many tracks one would never normally get the chance to hear! Stay well!
Excellent video, Dave. I have most of the bootlegs you highlighted in your video and you’re spot-on. My favorite is “The Beatles Not For Sale”. So many good ones and so many not so good. You took your chances when you bought them and hoped for the best when you got home and played them.
Hi Stephen, Hope your well! Your right , it was always a very hit & miss situation with bootlegs unless you knew someone that had one , otherwise you relied on the vendor who may also be saying it’s good when actually it’s terrible! Buy that was half the fun of the time and of course today we are spoilt for choice! Thanks for watching!
Hi Marcus, Yes the unsurpassed masters we’re probably the best series of Beatles outtakes released in my opinion, shame they never put them on vinyl! Thanks for watching!
The Beatles did play five shows at the Budokan, of which two were recorded. They weren’t all night shows, but were instead a mixture of afternoon and evening performances. So the cover of the bootleg is only half right. 🙂
Hi, Yes 5 shows over 3 days , sometimes one cannot remember all the details when recording these videos but I knew they hadn’t played five nights! It’s getting old that does it Lol ! Thanks for watching!
Hi Michael, Thank you so much , always good to get feedback on the channel! It’s definitely a very interesting part of collecting and so many Beatles bootlegs around too! Stay well!
Hi Dave, a very interesting presentation! In the late 1980s through 1990s I purchased a number of unofficial Beatles LPs & CDs. I especially love Sessions (1994), The Complete BBC Sessions (1993), Get Back: The Glyn Johns Final Compilation (1999), The Unsurpassed Masters Series (1989) I only have 4 of the 7 volumes, The Alternative Abbey Road (1997), Turn Me on Dead Man: The John Barrett Tapes (1999).
Hi Dennis, Glad you enjoyed the video , nice to present something a little different! The golden age of bootlegs much have been around the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s as quality got much better! A lot of great titles there ,I have several of those titles on CD that you mention including the fabulous Unsurpassed Series! Thanks for watching, stay well!
I never bought a Beatles bootleg on vinyl, but quite a few on CD. I had some of the classics like Unsurpassed Masters and also rather poor copy of A Collection Of Beatles Oldies. The Glyn Johns mixes of the cancelled Get Back album look interesting. The unreleased Sessions album seems to be readily available, as is the complete Fan Club Christmas flexidisc collection. A great video, and thanks for the tip-off about the books. Andy C.
Hi Andrew, I must do a follow up video with CDs aa I’ve got a nice selection! The world of bootlegs is an extremely interesting one and can also be frustrating sound quality wise, but it does seem these days there is much better content and upgraded sound since the 70’s & 80’s. Thanks for watching, stay well!
Hi Lance, Definitely, I’ll never forget hearing them for the first time and EMI were incredibly worried as to how the tracks escaped! Thanks for watching!
Hi beatledave! Amazing video today, i love looking at bootlegs, always found them interesting! My favourite ive ever seen is probably a taiwanese orange vinyl pressing of MMT! - A favourite band of mine called Cardiacs actually released an official live album called “rude bootleg” which came in a white cover, mocking a lot of the Tape recordings 😂 Also the 1 day EP i mentioned last time didnt do too well, so we released a song called “Spider” as a single! Anyway enough about me haha, great video as always!! 😊
Hi Zack, Yes the wonderful world of Bootlegs is certainly an interesting one! The Grateful Dead used to let their fans record their concerts if you wanted to , what a great idea! At least you got something out from the recording ! Thanks for watching!
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel The Grateful Dead, well, now they're called Dead and Company, still let their fans record their concerts. This will be their last year of touring. They're going to retire soon. After 50+ years, they deserve the rest.
Hi, I remember the BBC did a series which I have on cassette from the very early 80’s , but BBC recordings were definitely around before as even John Lennon mentions BBC bootlegs in his radio interview with Andy Peebles! Thanks for watching!
Ok ok well I know I am late for this one mate!!! But I have been on Holiday as you all say:). But wow I do like the Bootlegs lol and show a lot of them!!! I do like them and for me :) I just can't get enough of them. You do have some good one there and I do like them all too:)!!! Beatles not for sale is one of my favorite ones + I do like the cover a lot!!!! Beatles Stars of 63 mine is on CD but I do like the vinyl on that one mate!!! And for me Colored vinyl sure dose do it lol O YES!!! Great vide on this one and take care and see you later my friend :)!!!!!
Hey good Buddy, Better late than never ! Lol no problem my friend, my current life is so busy I’m surprised I still manage to make these videos! Ahh on your holiday’s, hope your having a fab time! You gotta love them old bootlegs good & bad , it’s a great experience getting them and definitely a bonus with coloured vinyl! I agree mate , something very special about that Not for sale bootleg, especially for the time. Thanks for watching my friend, stay well!
Thanks for letting me be late lol. It is just rood to be late for a friend's video :). But thank you :)!!! But on to your Boots lol. I do have fun listening to Beatles yes:). But nothing like a good Live or outtake to make a good day :). Well, I do hope you are doing well and yes, I did have a great time my Wife and I. All the best to you and see you later!!!
Hey Dave, long time no see! Nice set of bootlegs you have. Mine are all just counterfeits of original albums, but one of them (a counterfeit of a brazilian mono Revolver on green vinyl) contains a copy of XEX 606-1. The black album is one I find very interesting but I'm not sure about its audio quality and it came out in many different labels so I haven't got one yet. It's quite curious to see some bootlegs in the NEMS label. Thanks for the video and looking forward for the next one. Best, FBT.
Hi FBT, Hope your well! It’s definitely an absolute minefield over the years which is why I purchased several different books on that subject. I kinda stopped buying vinyl boots as they started appearing on CD and I’ve got a modest collection which I’ll also show at some point. The NEMS label was definitely a turning point of things to come! Thanks for watching!
Hi, Dave. That's a fabulous collection of boots you have there. I particularly like the coloured vinyl, and the outer jackets are incredible, picture wise and great quality. I have the 5 Nights In Japan album. Great outer jacket. Sound quality pretty good. George sounded like he either had a cold or was very distracted on If I Needed Someone, which he got from John and Paul helping with the vocal. Where did you find most of your boots, a store or ordered through the mail? I have several boots myself, mostly 70s era bought, but a couple more recent from record store visits. 70s through the mail. Cheers.
Hi G, Glad you liked them! I know I’ve seen a few of yours over time , with the technology these days they can make them just as good as official releases! Yes those Japan shows were certainly not the best performances from the boys, even thou the sound quality was pretty good! Thanks for watching!
Hi Dave, Beautiful bootlegs ! You are so right about Not For Sale-I was blown away when I first played that one ! Especially that medley recorded for the Around The Beatles special ! It’s one of the few boots I still have. And I noticed my Ultra Rare Trax made in the US don’t have the nice colored vinyl that the UK/EU ones do. I have the cd Unsurpassed discs but I wonder if those cds will always play or should I also keep the vinyl to be safe. You never know with the cds🧐 Anyway, great job as always-What a legend ! 👍 See you next week my friend!
Hi Nick, So glad you enjoyed! I know that “Not for Sale” boot was such a game changer back then , I couldn’t believe the great stuff I was hearing ! I believe the Ultra Rare Trax have been released a few times around the world and I would certainly be inclined to keep both formats as like you said , CDs can be unpredictable! Thanks for watching and stay well!
I don't know what you mean by "You never know with C.D.s" but I would keep all your Unsurpassed Masters C.D.s if I were you. I've never ad any problems with mine.
@@nankypooh655 Yes I’ve had the unsurpassed masters since they first appeared and actually sold my Ultra Rare CDs because of that but obviously kept the vinyl! Have you never heard of CD Rot? Have had this on sone bootlegs & legal CDs as sadly the media isn’t without its faults.
I love the Bootlegs. I had a couple of Bootlegs by Swinging Pig which featured a lot of the BBC sessions. That's the first time I heard songs like Lend Me Your Comb, Crying, Waiting Hoping and a great version of To Know Her is to Love Her, taken from the tele. I wish I kept the bootlegs, foolish me I sold them. I did love the BBC originals. Take care.
Hi, It’s a great aspect of collecting although illegal to own or sell, but so much great stuff out there which will probably never see the light of day. I did sell quite a lot of bootlegs but kept the best sounding ones. A lot of those BBC tracks got an official release making the swinging pig ones obsolete but I’ve got a nice Swinging pig coloured vinyl box set of the BBC stuff which is just too nice to get rid of! Thanks for watching!
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel I am feeling guilty now. Actually, to be honest, I didn't sell mine. I gave them away for nothing and to real honest, they were "legally" stolen. Yes, I was used to several of the "legalized" issues that Universal "stole". Loved them as you do.
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel I gave a lot of my Beatles records away after John Lennon's tragic death. I couldn't listen to their music for two decades. So I started listening to Neil Young, being a Canadian, I got involved with Canadian music like Joni Mitchell and Bruce Cockburn. I basically threw most of my Beatles records to a back street dealer in Toronto (for pennies) everything. That's the plain truth.
Hi Dave, Hope you're well. Good selection of bootlegs there. It's amazing how many are out there. There's loads in America from what I've seen. The coloured vinyls looked so good, especially the first one you showed. Did you have a good birthday. Take care and see you in 2 weeks for Beatles singles part 2 🙂
Hi Sarah, Glad you liked them! I used to have many more back in the day but with the advent of CD I dud sacrifice a few! Had a nice Birthday last Sunday with a BBQ and family round! See you next time, stay well and have a great week!
Hello Sir You have a lot of interesting Beatles bootleg Records As for me, most of my Beatles CDs our official releases However, I do have the one that you showed titled Not For Sell The only difference between yours and mine is that mine also contains the songs Case of the Blues and the version of Across the Universe that has Lizzie Bravo, singing with John I can’t wait until you show your solo Beatles bootlegs It will be interesting to see which ones you have by John Anyways, God bless you and I will catch you on the next video I forgot to add that I am going to hunt for that one that you showed titled The Beatles Stars of 1963 I hope I find it because I have a feeling that I am really going to enjoy it
Hi Angie, Glad you enjoyed the video, it’s a very interesting part of collecting when it comes to Bootlegs but definitely can be hit or miss! Even Bootlegs get repressed and in some cases with extra tracks , like you mentioned! I think I’ve a few solo Beatles ones , mainly CDs as I recall! Thanks for listening and stay well!
Great video. I just subscribed to your channel because of this video. This is going to take some time, so read at your leisure. A lot of this stuff in the video I already knew, some I didn't, but I thought I'd share my thoughts, and, maybe fill in some gaps. Like I said, this is going to be a long read. I've met Belmo in person more than once, and he's a very nice person. His books, Not For Sale, and Black Market Beatles are very good guides for collecting unauthorized live and studio Beatles recordings. He calls them "Beatlegs" and from here on, I will, too. The downside is Belmo is not exactly 100% accurate with his information, but he is accurate enough that I would highly recommend that both beginners and advanced collectors read his books thoroughly. Another downside is that he can get a bit opinionated, and some opinions I disagree with, but that doesn't detract from the valuable information he shares. He has also written books on specific subjects, such as devoting a whole book to the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, (Including information about Beatlegs of those recordings) and a whole book on The Christmas Records, with a wealth of information of not only the legitimate fan club records/album, but Beatlegs of out takes, soundalike bands, and the BBC Christmas Special hosted by Lulu. Another author to look out for is a Dutchman who goes by "Azing Moltmaker". He is also quite authoritative and well versed on Beatlegs, and has put out a series of books on individual albums which also includes information about Beatlegs from those recording sessions. He also put out a book about some of the labels that manufactured and and distributed these recordings, most notably Yellow Dog, and Vigatone. (Both excellent companies that put out some of the best Beatlegs around) So remember those names, and find those books, and educate yourselves. Have fun, and good luck tracking down whatever piques your interest. I remember when Five Nights In a Judo Arena first came out. I didn't buy it then, but Yellow Dog years ago released a 12 C.D. set called "The Ultimate Collection". There were three box sets with four C.D.s each. The first disc from the second box features three concerts. The first one being Stockholm, October 24, 1963, the second from Paris, June 30, 1965, and the last being from Tokyo, July 1, 1966. I think this is the "Judo Arena" album. These were actual radio broadcasts, which is why they sound so good, and professional. Also, I believe the Tokyo concert was one of the incidents that reinforced the band's decision to stop touring after 1966. The Japanese are reserved, polite people, and this had been the first time The Beatles could actually hear themselves perform on stage in years. (Let's just say, they themselves thought they were terrible, and leave it at that) Although it says Made In Germany on From Us To You, I believe that it is actually a U.S. release, judging from the label. There was a record company called "Ruthless Rhymes' that used that label on many unauthorized recordings. I used to have on vinyl, a concert that took place in Houston, Texas. It was a two record set that had both afternoon and evening shows. I won't go into too much details about the recording itself, but listening to the local sheriff trying to calm down the audience is hilarious. In case you're interested, the image on the label was taken from an old subscription advert for National Lampoon Magazine. (Subscribe to National Lampoon or we'll shoot the dog) Both afternoon and evening sets were reissued by Yellow Dog on a C.D. called The Ultimate Live Collection Volume One. (I've never seen any other volumes, though) The Get Back album has been released numerous times, but the covers and recordings different slightly, depending on who released it. I have it on both vinyl and C.D. On both my vinyl and C.D. the front cover has the apple in the upper left hand corner. It also says "With Don't Let Me Down and 11 More Songs" . On some copies, the track listing instead of "Link Track" the listing says "Rocker/Save The Last Dance For Me". Also some copies didn't come with that. My vinyl copy doesn't have that, but my C.D. does. Also the back cover photo differs from copy to copy. My vinyl copy has a huge photo from The Twickenham Soundstage, while the back of my C.D. has four separate photos of each Beatle from the recording sessions at Apple Studios. The vinyl is apple green. Also the label on the vinyl is a black and white mock up of the Apple Records label with the information printed upside down, while the C.D. label looks like a test pressing label.. Neither my vinyl, or C.D. came with the insert shown in your video. As far as Not For Sale goes, believe it or not, Belmo's book came first. In fact, in one of his books, (I can't remember if it's in Black Market Beatles, or an updated edition of Not For Sale) he remarked about how he was flattered by the fact that somebody took the front cover artwork, and title of his book for a Beatleg. I have it on both vinyl and C.D. The C.D. version is longer and includes extra tracks. ( Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Fields Forever, Revolution, Yer Blues, A Case of The Blues, Across The Universe) My vinyl copy has the same label as yours, but mine came out on dark purple vinyl. From a far distance you wouldn't be able to tell, but upon closer inspection it is what I would call "Twilight" purple. Also the vinyl version of If You've Got Trouble is complete, while the C.D. version has the first verse cut out. Also, the C.D. version was released on the Condor label. (At least my copy is) I always thought the label on the vinyl was rather clever, myself. I do not own anything on The Swingin' Pig label, nor do I own any of the Ultra Rare Trax albums, but I believe most, if not all the music was later released by the Yellow Dog label on the seven C.D. set called Unsurpassed Masters, and Acetates. (Also on Yellow Dog) I do like the special inner sleeve, though. Not many purveyors of unauthorized recordings would go out of their way in such a manner of fashion. I thought it was a nice touch. I apologize for the length of this reply, but I did warn you in the beginning that it would be rather long. I hope you will find the information I provided helpful and useful, and I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as i enjoyed watching your video.
Hi, Yea quite an essay, probably the longest message I’ve ever had! As I remember I had two previous books by Belmo, Do you want to know a secret and another with a title I can’t remember. But most definitely thought the “Not for sale” volume was much superior and included a lot more up to date information and many of the bootleg CDs in my collection. Shame to hear his info is not as good as it could be , but for myself it’s always been pretty good as I haven’t brought many since having the book but what I do have , they appear to have a good write up! I’m guessing we can all be opinionated from our own points of view , so I can understand that as we all have different ideas. Haven’t really looked for any of his other books but generally a bit harder to get in the U.K.and I may have seen some of the books by "Azing Moltmaker" on my travels! Have come across many boots on Vigatome & Yellow dog and they are probably two of the best labels out there and have been around quite a while now! I’ve also got sone great live box sets of the Hollywood Bowl complete concerts and the Sam Houston concerts too which are both very good quality and enjoyable,I do remember those ultimate collection box sets but never got round to buying those. I believe I did read somewhere that the Parlophone rehearsal session disc was USA made although it has been put out multiple times even with that terrible sound quality! Yes I’ve seen absolutely multiple copies and variations on the Get Back LP, I think the one I showed was more likely one of the earlier ones and the quality was extremely good for the time! I’ve also had the Mythology 3 box set in the past and I always felt although good, it could have been much much better , but it did have 3 great books within each set! Thanks for your information and keep enjoying the channel!
The only Beatles bootleg that I ever had was, and being it was on a Maxell C90 (paired with a Paul McCartney bootleg) it was very obvious, was a copy of the “Get Back” album on Side A and “James Paul McCartney” on Side B.
Another excellent video and collection item, Dave! I appreciate every single video and piece you share. I have a question for Ask BeatleDave: if I was to visit the UK for a week, what would be your top 5 (or more) recommendations to visit for a Beatles fan? Another question: was there ever a CD release of the Christmas albums? Also, as a CD collector I loved your Beatles' promo and singles collection and I am following your steps on this. Could you do a George's and John's similar video? Thanks for all! 👏👏👏
Hi, That’s very kind and glad you enjoyed! I’ll add your question to the list but it definitely will happen! As regards to the Christmas album , sadly no CD but there is a few unofficial ones about with one particular CD having bonus outtakes, so watch out for that one when your at record fairs etc! I was deafening going to do a solo promo video which hopefully won’t be too long down the line , I feel you’ll enjoy that one just as much! Thanks for your continued support! Stay well!
Hey Dave great video mate. I have a few Beatles bootlegs including the "Not For Sale" and "From Us To You" that you showed, though mine of the 10" had blank labels. Like you I stuck numbers on them to indicate which side. Those Trademark of Quality albums look really nice. I tended to stay away from bootlegs but I think "Sessions" was the first one I bought as well as those Deccagone audition singles on coloured vinyl. I also have "Dig it" from 'NEMS' label as well as. "Collectors Item" which was apparently an early boot of what became the US "Rarities" LP. I remember seeing those "Beatles At The Beeb" LP's in import record shops back in the day. Wish I'd bought them. However a couple of years ago I bought the 9CD BBC Boxed set. The sound quality ranged from a bit dodgy to OK and listenable though the included booklet was very nice. I did pay too much for it though. 😢 Sorry I haven't been around much. Love your work as always mate. Cheers. 👍
Hi Peter, Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed! It’s funny but I never got around to getting Sessions although I probably had the tracks on other bootlegs but that was a game changer and at the time, everyone was talking about it! Yes, you’ve gotta love those Ultra Rare Trax albums , they really blew me away at the time , just amazing ! The BBC stuff was from the U.K. radio shows that were presented back in the early 80’s with added tracks in not so good sound , so your right some were just listenable. No problem my friend, you always know where to find me! Stay well buddy!
I have Dig It on both vinyl and C.D. I don't have either with me on hand, but I think the C.D. version is longer and has more songs on it. Great stuff, though.
Hi Dave as a Beatles fan I find your channel really interesting although I must admit I stopped collecting vinyl in the mid 90s . I’ve been quite obsessive over the years trying to get everything fart burp and whistle they ever recorded. IMO I think it’s hard to beat the Beatles Secret Garden Sessions and anything on Purple Chick and for solo Beatles Mister Claudel. Not sure if any of that is available on vinyl but thought I’d mention it.
Hi Bob, Very kind to say so my friend, appreciate that! I know lots of collectors that did just that in the 90’s, even selling all their vinyl and just keeping CDs ! I can definitely relate to that obsession about collecting everything, I think it goes with the territory! I’ll have to definitely look out for those Bootleg labels you mentioned, I’ll be at the Liverpool convention in August, so bound to come across them! Stay well and thanks for watching!
Purple Chick had some great recordings. My favorite was The Star Club Tapes. If this doesn't prove that The Beatles were a punk rock band, then nothing will.
I started collecting Bootlegs in the late 70's. You might be interested to know the 10-inch boot "From Us To You - A Parlophone rehearsal" I have two of them. The first has dialogue between songs and the other has no dialogue. One is on blue vinyl and the other is on orange vinyl. My first Beatles bootleg was "Yellow Matter Custard" of which I placed it between "Please Please Me" and "With the Beatles". But now I have my Beatle and solo Beatles in Alphabet order. I like to record them in recording date order. I have bootlegs besides Beatles/Solo-Beatles namely "The Rolling Stones", "The Who", Chuck berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Monkees and regretfuly Bob Dylan which was stolen around 1980 (But has been released - Ha-Ha). I don't like the sound from CDR's and I've had many strokes and now is Paralyzed on my Right side. Two type this comment the only thing that works, on my right hand, is my fore finger and my thumb. My fantasy bootleg is "Ten of Swords" box set, by Bob Dylan, but I missed it. Have a good life and God Loves You.
Hi, Thanks for watching! Yes, I think that the Parlophone recording sessions was produced several times and on different coloured vinyl! I remember recording the tracks in order too just like yourself which always felt a better way to listen to many of the bootlegs! Sounds like we pretty much enjoy all of the same type of music , love all of those you mentioned especially the Monkees! Very sorry to hear you’ve had several strokes and paralysed on your right side, I really appreciate the effort it must have taken to message me and I’m always grateful! Take care of yourself and I do hope your condition doesn’t stop you from listening to all that wonderful music! God bless you !
I've got the official BBC recordings vol 1 & vol 2 and it intrigues me just how much is still out there and worth hunting down. There's probably a lot of duplication of songs the guys recorded but still...
Hi Andrew, Hope your well! Yeh there’s quite a lot out there good & bad quality from various sources and lots duplicated, but I feel the BBC 1&2 volumes are pretty much the best of it all with a wide selection of tracks! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video as usual. Do,you have an instagram page so others can show their bootleg collections? And once again every time I watch your videos my wallet gets a lot thinner. Thanks for these smart and informative videos.
Hi John, Thanks my friend! I’ve got a Facebook Channel under the same name but I’ll have to start up an Instagram one for this channel! You know I get that a lot but it’s also very rewarding when you guys find sone fabulous stuff! Your welcome, stay well!
Very nice collection. I was kinda surprised both "Collector's Items" and "Causalities" were not mentioned. "Causalities" should have been the USA "Rarities" release and was certainly made to look just like an official Capital release, but was not.
Hi Jim, Thanks my friend! I did have a copy of Collectors Items but don’t have anymore as it was one with just a plain label, wanted one of the capitol ones. Definitely an important release although somewhat illegal too, and your right it would have been much better than the USA Rarities album! Stay well!
Hi Mark, Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed it! Oh yes can’t agree more , it’s definitely exploited the fact they are Bootlegs , so prices get hiked up! Stay well!
Sadly, that's the price one pays, and the risk one takes with unauthorized recordings, but, when you find a good one, it's worth every bit of money that you paid for it, in my opinion.
Great review as per normal. Bootlegs. I started buying Beatles earlier than you started. I can remember buying BOOTLEGS late 60s early 70s in a record shop in Carnaby Street. When at that time it was illegal to sell or at least buy. I have now roughly 20-30 Beatles :. McCartney & Lennon. Yes some of them were really ropy but they have defiantly improved.
Thanks Graham, Used to find a lot of Boots at record fairs but was always a big gamble aa to quality. Sometimes even asking the vendor if it was any good didn’t always help aa they may lie just to sell it! I’ve got much more on CD aa opposed to vinyl but! I’m certainly glad the quality has got so much better these days ! Stay well!
Hi, As I recall Capitol were going to put together an album full of rare Beatles tracks and apparently someone who worked for Capitol also knew the bootleggers , so information was passed on. Shame it didn’t officially happen! Thanks for watching!
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel I think some of the tracks come from Capitol Of Canada. That would be Love Me Do, the Ringo version, and Thank You Girl and From Me To You. Both mono.
Hey Mr. Beatle Dave I have asked this question to some UA-camrs out there and nobody’s actually replied or try to answer it so here’s the question didn’t somebody at EMI or Abbey Rd., Studios have to have access to the recordings to get out the door so I’ve often thought it must’ve been somebody who everybody might know since it’s not easy to get to you would think just wondering if you had any thoughts on that thanks. Good job.
Hi, Hope your well! I can definitely answer that question and I will! John Barrett, who worked for EMI was asked to listen and make notes on every single Beatles tape in their vaults. I also believe he had Cancer and was having Chemotherapy around this time so he had the time to do this work, this is from memory so maybe slightly inaccurate! So he had access to everything and we know that he made copies of various tracks etc which is why we got the bootlegs like the John Barrett tapes. It could also be that other staff maybe copied some also but definitely this period and also his work on The Beatles at Abbey Road presentation (which I went too) formed the basis of a plethora of bootlegs over the late 1989’s. That in turn prompted EMI to issue lots of unreleased tracks for the Anthology project! As I said, some details maybe slightly different but that’s the general story from memory! Hope that helps you my friend! Thanks for watching!
I have a copy of the "Five Nights in a Judo Arena" album...although I think i have a bootleg of a bootleg! The cover is actually in B&W. Album's still the same, though. Lousy quality but fun to have nonetheless.
Hi, Hope your well my friend! In the wonderful world of Bootlegs copy’s of Bootlegs happen all the time, that’s what you call a rip off, of a rip off! Stay well!
Hey Beatle Dave, Well, channel host; looks as if you've got a pretty great unofficial collection there. Love the Strawberry Fields cover, with the t v. And, would like to find them Ultra Rare Trax,& have heard o' them too. And, 'Live in Paris' for sure. I've got a vinyl one entitled' Get Back to Toronto's,which probly fr. late 70's,early '80's- alright sound, but nothing to brag about,& one more better sound; but just can't recall title, presently. Then, did find some interesting ones,cd. 'The Beatles Best',volumes 1&2,Chinese,with real good audio. Perhaps, the latest, greatest in Shang hai that month; but definitely unofficial. And, found Russian ' Beatles Again',complete with alternate song versions after original ones,on one cd.,with surprisingly good sound. It's a great disc . . . . . . . & Dave we'd just like to send you a ' Big Shout- Out' as well. Peace, wellness your way, M
Hi Mike, Hope your well my friend ! Yes not a bad collection of boots although I have got rid of a few some years back when illegal CDs started to emerge, although I wished I had kept them! I will show the Bootleg CDs at some point also aa I’ve got a nice lot of those! I think that Get Back to Toronto is a very early Bootleg , so make sure you keep hold of that my friend ! So many bootlegs from so many countries around , there’s clearly no way the record companies can contain it really! Thanks my friend for a shout back too! Stay well my friend!
BeatleDave can I get a BIG BEATLES SHOUT-OUT PLEASE. Just for being a subscriber and watcher and liker of your videos and being A HUGE BEATLES FAN? Thanks for everything mate. Peace and Love, Craig.
Hi Craig, Absolutely! Anyone who comments will automatically get a shout out although the list is into September, but keep watching as I promise it’ll happen! Thanks for your continued support! Stay well!
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel WOW, thanks BeatleDave, that's AWESOME. You didn't do a Ringo on me and say that you're just too busy and you are warning me with PEACE AND LOVE to not ask again. Ha ha. Lol. Thanks mate. I do love your videos and channel. I would love to have a collection as deep as yours eventually. I mean my main aims are pretty much done (all original 60s first press mono UK studios and first stereo where that's all there is including original LIT box. And then every UK officially released album all through those themed love, ballad etc all the way up through to LIB naked, LOVE, 2016 Hollywood bowl, then 70s stereo press of UK studios. Then DMM UK press, and all UK singles, full sets of 87 CDs,2009 stereo and mono CDs, full set of XDR cassettes and then finally all the last 5 SUPER DELUXE BOXES in vinyl and CD.) And a few extras along the way I have all these. So genuine question here BeatleDave, WHAT WOULD YOU START GOING FOR NEXT NOW I HAVE ALL THOSE?
@@craigwarner6156 No problem my friend and wouldn’t dream of doing a Ringo! Appreciate that my friend , glad you are enjoying the channel. 44 years of collecting has taken a big chunk of my life to accumulate what I have, so I’m very happy to show. You’ve clearly done very well there mate with all those aspects of Beatledom! That’s a tough one to follow but I’m thinking maybe the U.K. Reel to Reel’s ? Now that’s a tough one to execute as I’m still searching for 3 more, so a difficult one. I’ve also been collecting original programs too! How about export records or even the USA Beatles albums? One things for sure as I always say “it’s a work in progress “! Stay well!

Bootlegs were wonderful memory for me
You keep yours in tip top condition - congrats.
Best of luck getting that missing Ultra Tracks
Hi,
For me too, such fabulous memories of reading about them and finally seeing some!
I always try my best to keep them as mint as possible and I’m always on the search for those elusive items!

I had a Beatles bootleg album called LIVE IN ATLANTA GA in 1970s, it was recorded in 1964
Hi Gordon,
Yes many many Bootlegs out there my friend, seemingly starting in the 1970’s and still new releases in the present day.

Thanks for the shout out Dave! I'm glad I could get you one of the press conference discs. Excellent show 👏 You definitely hit, what I consider, the cream of the bootlegs. All the Best!!
Hi Presley,
No problem and thanks again for the brilliant press conference 45!
Appreciate that and for me also these are a fine set of Bootleg LPS!
Thanks for watching!
I don't have very many bootlegs on vinyl but quite a lot on CD, the Swinging Pig sets for Ultra Rare Trax were worth every penny, amazing quality.
Hi Sailor Sam,
I actually got rid of some bootleg vinyl LPs when I started to buy the CDs and I’ll probably be showing those too at some point !

"Indian Rope Trick" was my first Beatle Bootleg as well....I bought it through the mail in 1973.... love your channel

All good here my friend!
Luckily I didn’t have too many bad experiences with bootlegs to put me off , especially on sone with high prices, but these days they are thankfully much better quality and kinda easy to obtain!

Hi,
Glad you enjoyed!
Yes , kinda hard to get the ultra rare trax vinyl around now but they do turn up!
If memory serves me well I believe that originated from West Germany, so I’m not surprised they sold them in shops!
I know lots of people who basically got rid of big collections who now wished they hadn’t!

Great episode. I have all ultra rare albums on cd. It appears that Apple may one day release some of these sixties concerts (remastered).
Thanks.
Hi,
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi,
No problem and thanks for watching!
Right from the early days of Bootlegs and your right there is certainly many good ones that would make great releases, sadly the record companies can’t see what we would like most times!
It was certainly an incredible time hearing many tracks one would never normally get the chance to hear!
Stay well!
A Nice Collection of Childrens Music
LOL
Excellent video, Dave. I have most of the bootlegs you highlighted in your video and you’re spot-on. My favorite is “The Beatles Not For Sale”. So many good ones and so many not so good. You took your chances when you bought them and hoped for the best when you got home and played them.
Hi Stephen,
Hope your well!
The first bootlegs i bought were the Unsupassed Masters on ÇD from BW. Great video
Hi Marcus,
Yes the unsurpassed masters we’re probably the best series of Beatles outtakes released in my opinion, shame they never put them on vinyl!
Thanks for watching!
The Beatles did play five shows at the Budokan, of which two were recorded. They weren’t all night shows, but were instead a mixture of afternoon and evening performances. So the cover of the bootleg is only half right. 🙂
Hi,
Yes 5 shows over 3 days , sometimes one cannot remember all the details when recording these videos but I knew they hadn’t played five nights!
It’s getting old that does it Lol !
Thanks for watching!
Great show. I have most of those, but not all.
Hi Michael,
Thank you so much , always good to get feedback on the channel!
It’s definitely a very interesting part of collecting and so many Beatles bootlegs around too!

Hi Dennis,
Glad you enjoyed the video , nice to present something a little different!
The golden age of bootlegs much have been around the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s as quality got much better!
A lot of great titles there ,I have several of those titles on CD that you mention including the fabulous Unsurpassed Series!

Andy C.
Hi Andrew,
I must do a follow up video with CDs aa I’ve got a nice selection!
The world of bootlegs is an extremely interesting one and can also be frustrating sound quality wise, but it does seem these days there is much better content and upgraded sound since the 70’s & 80’s.

The original "Ultra Rare Trax" were mind bowing.
Hi Lance,
Definitely, I’ll never forget hearing them for the first time and EMI were incredibly worried as to how the tracks escaped!

Hi beatledave!
Amazing video today, i love looking at bootlegs, always found them interesting! My favourite ive ever seen is probably a taiwanese orange vinyl pressing of MMT! - A favourite band of mine called Cardiacs actually released an official live album called “rude bootleg” which came in a white cover, mocking a lot of the Tape recordings 😂
Also the 1 day EP i mentioned last time didnt do too well, so we released a song called “Spider” as a single!
Anyway enough about me haha, great video as always!! 😊

Best, FBT.
Hi FBT,
Hope your well!
Cheers.
Hi G,
Glad you liked them!
Hi Nick,
So glad you enjoyed!
I know that “Not for Sale” boot was such a game changer back then , I couldn’t believe the great stuff I was hearing !

Yes I’ve had the unsurpassed masters since they first appeared and actually sold my Ultra Rare CDs because of that but obviously kept the vinyl!
Take care.
Hi,
It’s a great aspect of collecting although illegal to own or sell, but so much great stuff out there which will probably never see the light of day.
I did sell quite a lot of bootlegs but kept the best sounding ones.
A lot of those BBC tracks got an official release making the swinging pig ones obsolete but I’ve got a nice Swinging pig coloured vinyl box set of the BBC stuff which is just too nice to get rid of!

Ahh, well if it’s any consolation that’s a very nice gesture to give them away.
Actually I can definitely understand the shock of Lennons Murder and not wanting to listen again, it was a devastating loss.

Even Bootlegs get repressed and in some cases with extra tracks , like you mentioned!

(Let's just say, they themselves thought they were terrible, and leave it at that)
Although it says Made In Germany on From Us To You, I believe that it is actually a U.S. release, judging from the label. (I've never seen any other volumes, though)
The Get Back album has been released numerous times, but the covers and recordings different slightly, depending on who released it.
Hi,
Yea quite an essay, probably the longest message I’ve ever had!
Hi George,
Weather it be vinyl , CD or cassette there’s something very exciting about hearing this rare stuff!’
Thanks for watching, stay well!
Hi,
That’s very kind and glad you enjoyed!
Stay well!
Thanks! Looking forward to that👍
Excellent!
Just so I know when I include your Ask BeatleDave question what’s your full name !
Regards
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel Hi. it is Percy Cabello. I still haven’t figured how to show it in the actual comment. Greetings from Lima, Peru. Thanks !
Sorry I haven't been around much. Love your work as always mate. Cheers. 👍
Hi Peter,
Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed!
Hi Bob,
Very kind to say so my friend, appreciate that!
Hi,
Thanks for watching!
Hi Andrew,
Hope your well!
Hi John,
Thanks my friend!
Hi Jim,
Thanks my friend!
I did have a copy of Collectors Items but don’t have anymore as it was one with just a plain label, wanted one of the capitol ones.
Definitely an important release although somewhat illegal too, and your right it would have been much better than the USA Rarities album!
Stay well!
I remember a send up of Rarities called "Oddities", but I've never heard of, or seen "Casualties"
The right date for the live in paris is june 20 1965
Hi Mario,
Yes, these bootleggers are always getting dates and info wrong ! Lol
Stay well!

Nice video, Dave. My only complaint about bootlegs is the cost. Some prices seem a bit excessive. Otherwise, some are quite interesting.
Hi Mark,
Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Graham,
Used to find a lot of Boots at record fairs but was always a big gamble aa to quality. Sometimes even asking the vendor if it was any good didn’t always help aa they may lie just to sell it!
I’ve got much more on CD aa opposed to vinyl but!
I’m certainly glad the quality has got so much better these days !
Stay well!
The Collectors Items album was not for sale either. I have the second edition. But why was Collectors Items made?
Hi,
As I recall Capitol were going to put together an album full of rare Beatles tracks and apparently someone who worked for Capitol also knew the bootleggers , so information was passed on.
Shame it didn’t officially happen!
Thanks for watching!
@@beatledavesbeatleschannel I think some of the tracks come from Capitol Of Canada. That would be Love Me Do, the Ringo version, and Thank You Girl and From Me To You. Both mono.
@@Cove-o4d
Yes that would certainly make sense on some of those early tracks !
Good job.
Hi,
Hope your well!
Hi,
Hope your well my friend!
In the wonderful world of Bootlegs copy’s of Bootlegs happen all the time, that’s what you call a rip off, of a rip off!
Stay well!
Hey Beatle Dave,
Well, channel host; looks as if you've got a pretty great unofficial collection there.
Peace,wellness your way, M
Hi Mike,
Hope your well my friend !
Hi Craig,
Absolutely!
@@craigwarner6156
No problem my friend and wouldn’t dream of doing a Ringo!
Stay well!
Plenty of bootleg
Hi Ray,
You gotta love em’!
Thanks for watching!
Interesting enough, but if you’re going to take the record out, how about us having a listen? Ugh.
Hi Joseph,
A lot of these bootlegs are out there and readily available so not point in playing them in a video with lo fi sound!
Stay well!
