Here in the USA we call them slumlords. They buy buildings and collect the rent and never fix anything. It's very hard to get a good landlord. Just think if you could find a house with a garden and room for your web shop you wouldn't need three places so it might even save you money.

The mold is most dangerous when it's disturbed - that's when the spores get released into the air and you end up breathing them in. Don't try to scrub or clean it yourself, or if you do make sure you're wearing an appropriate mask.

I actually appreciate the honesty and transparency. I would really kind of not enjoy it if everything you showed us was " perfect." That would be annoying, to be honest. I've lived in places too, where I was embarrassed about my place so I know the feeling. Don't feel bad, it's not YOU. It's the apartment. Good luck in your search, here's hoping something good is around the corner.🙂🤞

I was missing you. I get that you need a break or some time when the blues hit. For me, life has been weird and I needed a cozy vid to warm my soul and here you are! Love ya and your vids Elise! You can use Javex bleach to get rid of the mold or go to a paint store and get mold remover in a spray bottle. You can also buy paint that prevents mold. We did this in the house we had before and it worked great. Hope this helps. I would not wait for the landlord, it's better to not get sick!

I already have a product I spray onto, but since the wall is falling apart water gets into the cracks too, so a bigger projects needs to happen :/

@@EliseBuch yes at this point the paint wont do the trick. The wall seems to need some reconstruction, with plaster for example. And then putting on tiles so the water wont ever leak on the wall again. That can be done pretty easily but can be expensive for a renter. I would say around 400€ if the cost of materials is the same as in France and if you do it yourself. Probably a thousand euros to do it professionnally.
I don't know about the laws where you live but in France if you're a renter and something's unsanitary about the place, you can stop paying your rent until the landlord fixes the issue. Maybe go see a renters association to help you with your case if you plan on staying in the place long enough for it to worth the effort ?
Sending you lots of love and strengh Elise !

I once had an apartment in the Florida Keys, which was only 90 miles north of Cuba. It was in the second floor doctor's library of a nearly 200 year old home that annexed the hospital (my friend Jason lived in the annex down the hall from me). As an avid reader I was absolutely crazy about the two walls of built-in bookcases that stretched almost all the way to the 10 foot ceilings. There were 1940s appliances in my tiny, lipstick red kitchen which I loved. Giant 7' tall windows wrapped three sides, with the broadside facing north (SO important in a hot climate).
Then, there was the balcony. It was a deep, grand, balustraded Gone With the Wind-type balcony that snuggled up to a large banyan tree. It overlooked a gorgeous tropical jungle of a garden and when it rained I had 180 degree view of steady summer downpours from the vantage point of almost anywhere in my little flat. It was so breezy you only needed a/c in the hottest part of summer. Also, it was only a block of the main downtown road and 5 blocks away from where I worked -- yet you could hear no noise, not even during festivals. It also happened to be cheap cheap cheap.
Sure, it was run down, but in a shabby chic sort of way that made me love it all the more. Yeah, there was a rowdy bunch that lived there, but it was a gay household (I'd lied to live there) and it was kept really really clean. And there was a quaint little house dinner and cocktails every Sunday night on the main upstairs balcony - which felt like home. And family. It was so perfect I would STILL live there, 20 years later.
...If it weren't for the bedbugs. And these were super tropical bedbugs, not just typical New York bedbugs. Before I moved, I had to throw out every single thing I owned made of fabric: my clothes, towels, bedding, 3 mattresses, curtains for all those windows, a sofa...you get the point.
My landlord had handed me a can of bug spray as a solution. I wish I were joking. He told me I needed to spray my mattress seams with bleach and wrap them in airtight black plastic...as if that was the ultimate solution!! I had been hung up on by 4 exterminators before the fifth told me the only way to get rid of them once they've infected the house was to cleanse it with fire. It was heartbreaking to have to move out of that perfect (for me) little place, but I wanted to leave while I still had some skin left. It took 2 years for the scarring to finally fade completely! I will never forget it.
Before this, I was terrified of spiders. To this day I would rather make my peace with spiders than step one foot into a bedbug infested place ever again. But believe it or not I still miss the hell out of that apartment. I mean, like a LOT. It was like someone handed me my glass slipper after filling it up with bugs. 😅

Get Tilex (Amazon) or use Clorox beach (full strength) to clean area. Wear a mask and gloves when doing the cleaning. Get a humidifier for the constant moisture. No guarantee if mold is behind the wall, but should help. Use paint that has mold inhibitor to touch up the walls after you clean it. For the smoke, a good air purifier will help. Also, Pro-Lab Mold Test Kit can be done after you clean to assess your situation. If black mold, get out asap. Hope this was useful information. Over the years, I had to live with this problem due to constant flooding in the basement of my house. Finally, got rid of the problem. I sold the house! Love your videos. A fan in Chicago.

I think you might have meant to write "dehumidifier" rather than "humidifier." Awesome suggestion by the way! It would help with the ongoing issue, though I don't think it would do much for anything behind the wall.

That’s mold and here in Canada, it’s illegal for the landlord to not to fix it immediately. It’s a health hazard and you need to get it fixed or move. Call the board of health or whatever it’s called there.
Even if you don’t get positive feedback from the bank, please consider moving as soon as possible, even if it’s another rental. Or stay in your cottage or even the boutique. Fingers crossed for you! 🤞

Yum that salad looks so good. I can completely relate to your feeling about your banking institution and buying a home. When I purchased my first home as a single woman in America it was very difficult because I too was self-employed. It took a long time but … I never gave up, not ever. Just try to remember to be flexible. If the bank says yes but…you need to do this, that & this, or they may want more money, or they may say no to the amount and you may have to find a less expensive home. There are always options and ways to get what you want. Make sure you keep trusting & believing in your ability to manifest exactly what you want. 💕🏡

Can I just say how beautiful you looked in the spring outfit, these colours embodied spring. So sorry you are having so much trouble with your landlord, over here in Britain people have the same problems but not all landlords are like this my husband and I own two properties and if our tenants have problems we are onto it instantly if my husband can't fix it we get someone in. We believe in treating people how we would like to be treated ourselves if we were renting. I do hope you get good news from the bank and that you will soon be buying your own property. It is so lovely having you back Vlogging.

Omg. Your apartment situation and life remind me of my life in New York City in the 1980’s and 1990’s. I was a struggling creative person too. I had to live in the cheapest apartments and had slum lords (sleazy landlords) who did not care for the buildings at all. I had one landlord that would not even fix the broken front door lock to the building entrance-in crazy New York!!! Anyone could just walk right in. Scary but also wonderful days. I was older than you when I finally started making great money and bought my first apartment. I will say, all my crazy dreams came true! What I love about you is you know how to appreciate everything. You loom on the positive side of things and make the best of it, even when times are sometimes very disheartening! Your honesty, talent, kindness and spirit will take you exactly where you want to go in life. But the most important thing, is I see you enjoying the journey. I really really relate to you. I feel you on those reasons - when you know a place isn't 'home' anymore, you just feel it from that moment on, even if it's years and years... our apartments have paper thin walls so the neighbours and their four kids are basically living with me - at least that's what it feels like with their yelling and crying... (ahh sorry I just have to rant for a little bit)
I also have neighbours that smoke heavy weed and strong exotic tabacco, and like you say; the smoke is always there... and come to think of it; I basically gave up on the mould in my bathroom because there's no window to air it anyway - but I should probably get that looked at. !! Crossing my fingers for us both to find something this year! ❤️

Honestly, every person I speak to is feeling the same. I think as a world, we are all just burned out from the last two years. And even though many places are opening up or are fully open again, it’s not like we snap back to normal immediately. Our minds and bodies need time to decompress for a while, then we can hopefully start to feel energized again.

Soo many good Vibes sent your way!! Good luck on the loan 🤞 I so hope it goes through soon so you can get outta of there. I had no idea you were in an apartment or living with the problems you spoke of.
I so hope you get the place that fits your needs so you can save some money, rather than paying rent on your store & housing.
Your landlords sound like they are slumlords and just waiting on your rent check each month, rather than fixing what definitely needs to be fixed!!!

I do feel you for the issues in your apartment... I know it's just one problem out of many but when it comes to the fungus in the bathroom maybe a dehumidifier could help. I know it really helps in my apartment where there is no ventilation. :)

Waiting for the bank is hard. I do hope they approve you. Would love to see you get a house of your own. If you don’t get approved go to another lender. Living in an apartment is so hard. I honestly can’t do it and understand all your struggles. You need a house of your own. Sending you lots of warm thoughts and good vibes sweet lady. 💕

I understand your desire to move to a better place. I couldn't tolerate all the issues with my last apartment, so I decided to move to a better apartment with higher rent. The old apartment was cozy and had low rent, but there were too many disgusting issues in the building!

Here in Hamburg we haven't seen the sun for like 4 months. It's all grey in grey, same thunder storms as in Denmark. It's hard to push through that. Good luck for your apartment search and for better weather!

Dear Elise the problems in your apartment are more common then you think I can relate. In the states we call it mold and black mold is extremely dangerous. I have had this problem on my kitchen ceiling for over a year because the building I live in needs a new roof. So until they can afford to fix the roof I’m stuck It’s scary good luck I hope they fix it soon. Love your videos. Brighter days ahead ! Cheers !

Black mold is definitely a health hazard. I don't know if there are regulations protecting renters but I'd check to see if there are city regulations/inspectors that can issue fines to the landlord. It is definitely time to move!

I feel sorry for all your neighbors too. They may be doing the best they can do as well. It is the building owners that need to be made accountable. Slum lords are just awful. I hope you get a place soon🌻

I understand completely about the apartment problems, we struggle in the U.S. with issues too. Hopefully your house hunting comes through, but if not I'm sure you could upgrade to a better rental situation
