      @@VictorGarciaR I own an RP80. It's made for Varusteleka by Savotta, same materials and craftsmanship as their excellent Jääkäri line of packs. It's large, durable, stable, modular, adjustable, comfortable. Great pack. For the price, I think it should come with a sternum strap. Doesn't, so I added one. The current version doesn't have any top compression straps either, and this is because the RP80 is set up to accept a small daypack as a "top lid" that compresses down. I use a Jääkäri S for this, attached horizontally with some spare utility straps, and it works well. Easy to rig up some top compression straps or go without. Even without any extras, it's significantly heavier and more expensive than an Osprey or similar. It'd be overkill for a lot of people. But I love mine and I'll try to answer any specific questions you have.

      As to wool pants, you'll find lots more available in the men's section at thrift stores. Just make sure the fit and use a Marino base layer if you want extra warmth and comfort. If you picked up a couple pairs or a blanket, the material would make a nice warm skirt too.
      Here's a blessing that might make your day. Please ask if you have any questions.

    The wool pants rip out is common, same thing happened to me. But its not just the Swiss surplus but a few wool pants designs rip out as well . Solution: suspenders, which should be worn anyway. The problem with rip out is worsen with pants legs tucked into high ride boots like Muck boots.

      Swedish ≠ Swiss!
      The wool gear (trousers, overcoat) I was issued in the Swiss army in 1986 was just awfull, somewhat thin & very scratchy, nickname: barbed wire suit!

    I like your evolution through the old school surplus wool. I'm loving the versatility of wool head to toe too.. It's surprising how you can stay warm through such a wide temperature range. I wonder if you can describe what you would change on those Verusteleka pants now that you've worn them a season or two? For instance, do your lower legs get hot from the additional layer and wish you had a removable gator instead? I have my favorite 50/50 Cotton/ nylon ripstop and 500 Cordura nylon to add to my sweet swiss, etc wool pants for town and field next fall. I want to do those projects properly. Any suggestions?

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  Рік тому

      Thank you! Sounds like a great project you are planning. As far as what I would change on these, not much. They have been really great. Definitely a cold weather garment. The ripstop adds quite a bit in terms of heat retention. Personally, I really enjoy using gaiters. I have a set of old Swiss waxed wool gaiters and think they are a really great option. Wear them as needed for cold and wet weather, remove them as conditions improve. All the best with your project!
