Alex Lifeson is CRIMINALLY underrated. Playing guitar in a 3-piece is a whole nother ballgame -- no second guitar to fill in the gaps and cover up your mistakes!
Its almost like the each play an instrument and a half so they sound like a 4 or 5 piece. Alex with his peddles geddy does melody on the bass and sometimes keys and niel is well niel.
I was deeply impressed when I read Geddy Lee's bio, that both of his parents, Polish Jews, stayed in Auschwitz as teens, survived Holocaust, reunited, married and moved to Canada. Wow! That's how Rush's amazing music became possible! God bless!

Geddy, Neil and Alex are actually three ancient Wizards. After thousands of years roaming the earth they decided to start a band, and that band is Rush.
Jair Canada That’s damn true... most big names in the music industry seem to be English and American but Rush changed that and brought Canada way up there
All of the instruments in the video were rentals. Neil never had an all concert tom Slingerland kit, Geddy never owned a Rickenbacker in that color and Alex never owned a Gibson ES in that color either. Either Neil or Geddy said that the videos for this album were recorded somewhere in Atlanta Ga while on tour. It was easier to get rental instruments for the video than to use their actual instruments which were constantly in use, being setup or torn down or on a truck to the next tour stop.
This is absolutely my favorite Geddy video. He's driving the entire band. Let's be frank. Everybody's chasing Geddy. That bass is a VERY busy guitar line and he's belting a busy vocal line from his chest in the high alto with shrieks into the mezzo-soprano (whistle) register. Just...in awe. He's probably in awe of himself at this age too, he doesn't like to talk about Fly By Night.
Rush, the band that proved that you didn't have to be pretty, you didn't have to act like stupid rock stars or get hooked on drugs, you didn't have to put up with record company bullshit and you could do what you wanted as long a you were brilliant musicians and songwriters! They were and are true originals
All of Alex Lifeson's work was horrendously underrated. Even Rush fans didn't appreciate him as much as they did the other two, This was evident at their HoF induction when the Foo guys gave homage to each member of Rush individually, and Alex Lifeson's mention barely drew cricket chirps while Geddy Lee was received enthusiastically, and Neil Peart got an ovation without so much as the mention of his name!
While I would agree to this solo being "One of" the best, I still think the solo for Limelight is the best. Alex does some magical octave-skip and if you see it on video, it's like "Wait, he did that on the same fret? But...how?" At least it looks that way. If any other guitarists who can play that solo and know how it's done, feel free to chime in. It still messes with my head lol.
Although I love “Limelight”, this is my favorite Rush song. It's one of the songs I listen to when I'm going through tough times or just feeling down. Naturally, I also listen to it when everything is fine, because it's a great song.
As I sit here and watch such a young Neil, my mind harkens back to a time in the 70's, when a young kid would lay in his bed during the early morning hours, with his Koss headphones plugged into his Pioneer stereo cabinet, listening to this album all the while my mind and emotions drifted into other times and spaces of the future that lay before me. Now I lay here listening at close to 60 years old, but I find my mind going backwards to wonderful things and times of the past, and with a sense of sadness that time on this earth is really short. It's here and gone before we even realize it. Thank you Neil for what you gave us. I sure wish you hadn't left us so soon, as we all miss you dearly.
Man, they were so young, and they all looked so FLY! Only The Professor could make a mullet and a sequined matador jacket look cool. This may be my favorite Geddy vocal of all time.
And so goes one of the most influential and talented artists in modern music history. Neil is flying by night away from this world into a better place now. Rest in Peace.

Rush will be in my Heaven if it's so. The entire band are gods
The whole Rush fandom misses you today Neil, and we hope you have gone to rest in peace.
You've just seen Neil behind the smallest drum set he's ever been that close to.
+ArusDaryl Mo money, mo drums.
So true
when they were recording Snakes and Arrows, his big kit was shipped, and he recorded Malignant Narcissism on a four piece. Also, his rehearsal kits.
+Northernblues they were basically friends in high school it wasnt much of an audition it was "oh so you can play drums. Cool, youre in."
+Northernblues cool I guess I will talk to my dad about it haha! I just believed him. Thank you
The powerhouse Trio doing one of their best songs.
Neil Peart giving Rush's sound a new identity
Seriously, how are three people this frigging awesome?
aw
è§òme
To quote Gene Simmons... "They are RUSH"
I was in Jr. High school in the early 80s and was listening to a lot of Van Halen and KISS. Kids at school were talking about Rush but I wasn't that familiar with them. Fly By Night was the first album I bought and I was blown away. RIP Neil Peart
I was in eighth grade in 2011, and yet the same happened to me. Free Will came on my dad's car radio, I started listening to Rush via UA-cam, and bought albums via itunes, been a fan ever since. Funny how things stay the same even as they change.
In grade 9, the band at my first high school dance was Rush.
@@intercommerceThat’s awesome
Wish I could have the same experience. I’m almost in 9th grade now and rock music is nonexistent in my school😢
Fly By Night, One of my favorite albums!
I remember discovering the band through this video few years back. First thing that struck out to me was the amazing drumming. I posted a comment how this guy was the best drummer I've ever seen. Rest in peace Neil.
he was the best drummer ANYONE ever saw, long before you posted your comment
The stars above were aligned when these three musical savants first got together and like wow this provocative priceless color footage is awesome to see and hear
and i mean like really friggin loud.
One of the greatest bands of all time.
I GOT TO SEE RUSH A COUPLE TIMES LIVE IN CONCERT IN BOTH SHOWS WERE PHENOMENAL 1:56
When 3 people sound like an orchestra. Holy shit rush is crazy
First time I saw them in concert, I couldn't believe there were only 3 people on the stage. I was dumbfounded. Still am.
Thats what's awesome about these guys!
@Alejandro Moreno S. is that what we're calling them then?
@Alejandro Moreno S. Can't forget about the most important power trio besides all of the above, Cream!
Feels like someone just punched my gut ; my Heart is Heavy tonight , so saddened by Neils passing . Rush has been in my ears since I was 9 years old ( The 70's) . RIP Brother and Thank you for all the AMAZING MUSIC
It lightens the heart to see young gods rising, hard to believe that this album nearly sunk the band, thankfully 2112 turned that all around.
No, this album made them more popular. Caress Of Steel nearly sunk the band
@@cathy8187 and yet still a great recording...we have been blessed
@@rondunlop985 I listened to the whole caress of steel one day and I was going “How did people think this is bad?!”
@@cathy8187 I know. I love all of their stuff, from the harder stuff to the synth stuff.
joey jeremiah song
Brings back such great memories. This is when music was actually music 🎶!! ❤
Jesus, did Geddy ever look young? He's 22 in this, and could pass for a man of 40.

Rush is the definition of one of the best power trios. Facts
Looking at this old video its easy to see how much Neil admired Keith Moon with all the stick twiddling, the hallmark of KM's exuberant playing style.
Kupra and Rich were pretty big inspirations also...
Think Mick Tucker (the sweet drummer) might have got neil into the stick tricks also 👍
Rest In Peace Master Neil Peart. Flight by night to the eternity.
The faces Alex makes during the solo are life changing
No... It's lifeson
+Patrick Star LOL.
+3 Dollars and 50 Cents If only he were as talented as Geddy and Neil ...
