I’ve been pretty happy with the game so far myself. As long as you go in knowing it’s not going to be a 10/10 perfect game, there’s still plenty to make the experience enjoyable. I like that they were going for something unique, I love when developers stray from the “safe” game mechanics and do something a bit different.
When this game was announced, I was genuinely thinking we were getting a Haruhi Suzumiya spin-off. I’ll never forget how they just showed the same episode 8 times in a row with very minor differences just to get people in the same mindset of someone going through a time loop.
@@JaydeVerElst I can’t imagine a popular show ever taking such a risk honestly, imagine if a Marvel show or Game of Thrones did such a thing, there would be outrage. I understand the anger, but it’s really cool they tried such a unique thing!
It's an interesting concept, that the first boss tends to rotate in different loops - I guess it's based on your friendship with certain characters? On my first and second playthroughs, Micchi was the first boss - hardly spoke to her because of how... complicated she made things. Third playthrough, spent most of my time with Micchi and the teacher (Kuni, not Max) was the first boss
A nice bit of foreshadowing to the plot though is that none of the potential victims will follow you on rescue missions - teamed up with Micchi, and as soon as Nini entered the otherworld with Saru, she was gone (I guess because the negative emotion resonates with them too much at first?
This was one of my most anticipated games, but it really seems to struggle with the execution of its intriguing concept. Maybe it's better to wait for a sale. Hopefully, they will have patched in a skip dialogue option until then...
This gives me major P4 vibes, and that alone has me excited for it. Small town coming of age stories are something I tend to love, so I think the charm of that is gonna carry this one for me. Great review regardless though!
I'd certainly keep your expectations at a reasonable level. This looks like a half baked low budget Persona clone. I think that's the worst part is that this could have had so much potential, but every aspect seems to fall flat. This is also currently the 2nd worst rated game of the year on metacritic behind only LOTR Gollum 🥴.
@Bubble Gum Yeah no expectations are in check, I play plenty of niche lower budget JRPGs so I can generally look past glaring faults. May wait for a sale, despite wanting to support the developers.
@@ianp5367 Not to dampen your interest, but keep in mind that this is more a dating sim with extremely light RPG elements more than an actual JRPG. It has nothing you would expect from a JRPG (no dungeons, no random battles, no quests, no items, nothing like that). If you expect it to be even remotely similar to P4 or any other JRPG, you will be disappointed.
@@Romores200 Good to see that someone's looking at the full picture, instead of a "Oh, this game must follow a certain formula otherwise it's terrible" mindset
Disappointed theres not a skip feature that is pretty standard on visual novels. I'm still picking this up. I've got the collector's edition pre-ordered. This seems to be a game i play with another game. In order to break of the loops of repeated text.
There is a skip option in the game, certainly makes getting to the point easier - just press triangle when the dialogue appears (Certainly made getting back to the present quicker, after Izanami wiped the floor with me)
welp, that's quite a bummer. I was really looking forward to this since ideally this could've been Persona in a Summer Time Rendering setting. Guess overall the execution is just sadly undercooked. Anybody got any recommendations of games/VNs with a similar setting/vibe though?
"Persona in a Summer Time Rendering setting" that's exactly what I was thinking about as well 😂 If you want a good summer anime game, please check out Shin-chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation!
@@geekshrine that's more the innocent nostalgic kind of summer game - like Boku no Natsuyasumi (can really recommend the 6 hour Tim Rogers video on that series lol) What I'm looking for is more mystery/horror plus romance. Something like World End Syndrome, Persona 4, maybe even Higurashi to some extend. Guess I'd call it "cozy summer suspense"? :D
I was just doing Agnea's story quest in Octopath Traveler 2 before watching this video and I hear her again at the start. Anyway, thanks for the great review. I'm still getting the game but at least i now know what to expect from it.
Agree, this game catches your attention with the P4 vibe but then you understand that the ‘uniqueness’ is there because the game lacks. The loop fills hours without adding new scenary, repetition/no skip of dialogues you read too. And a combat system that hides how lacking it is by making it ‘unique’. If you want to have this kind of experience just get P4 at 20€ digital. Not saying that is the same, because P4 is cheaper and superior.
Honestly, I'm barely hanging on with holding out in the first loop, so far I'm just past the first visit to the school AND I'M SO BORED, not once have I been able to control the character, talk to people or do anything, and they're like "oh go find the teacher and familiarize your self with the school" and I was thinking "of great I can finally do something, but the dialog is so dry and boring I might just turn it off and play a Star Ocean game instead.
This one caught my eye but I've been burned before by Persona style games. Looks to be something I might want to play at some point when I run out of other games to play.
This game is meh in all honesty. Ive had it for over a week n put some 20 hours into it and by loop 3 if your not maxed stats ur either falling asleep or purposely not trying. By loop 3 i had 60 to 100 percent of all blessings on each char. If you walk with a char they get the world map blessing. Also fighting dungeon mobs has a chance to trigger blessings. Same for getting megatamas. The 6.5 is a correct score altho id give it a 6
@@xavito4337 presentation it reminds me of the ps3 time and enternity game or whatever it was called. Im not getting up to look at its name. It had thr same animation and art style. I will give you a warning. Micchi will kill you as part of her affection getting to high. Not sure if its triggered by having high affection with others but at about 600 affection with her to 800 she game overs you with no chance at a loop and youll lose a shit ton of progress when it happens as the autosave is lackluster
@@NoisyPixelNews And it gets easier in subsequent runs - I started a new loop because I had failed to save Micchi and the Teacher, and stats built up faster - on the relationship side of things, you can check a poster to build your social standing which makes building bonds faster and easier (At one point, you even get 50 friendship and affection points via each interaction)
Damn... I might have to return this game when I get it. I've seen a lot of reviews on it and everyone is pretty much saying the same thing. I might get it again when it drops in price. 75 bucks seems to much for this... thanks for the review, btw.
It looks like it would have been a great game but looks like they didn't think of basic JRPG mechanics such as controlling all party members and healing.
With an ost composed by the legend himself, Noriyuki Iwadare, I physically can’t not buy this game. Will be educative at the very least for anyone dreaming of new forms of immersive game design

This seemed like a decent one to play, but reminds too much Persona, all slice of life moments and characters feel like straight out from one Persona game. I hope that modern jrpg's move away from typical high school setting and teen characters, and could something much mature for mature audience.
I think most people don't understand the game, the game focus is on a town and all happens in the same town, it is more than logic that the town is the same in the twisted version and therefore also the lack of dungeons. People want to create something that goes against the logic of the game. The loop system is not to go back and try to save anyone or everyone from dying people WILL die based on your decisions, it is not intended to go back and fix it. This is no Fire Emblem with permadeath and every time you lose a party member you reset the game, this is more like the Banner Saga series where people die and you move on, that is exactly what the devs mean by your decisions MATTERS. So the problem is NOT the game but people who don't understand the game!
ON TOP OF THAT, it's very rare that you can actually get people's affection to the threshold needed to save them on the first playthrough anyway. or the right statistics to actually face the boss head-on (As I found out the hard way while fighting Izanami yesterday).
Also, another thing that proves you're right is that the game DOES allow you to skip cutscenes with either Triangle or using "Auto"/ "Skip" (Something I found useful when it came to shutting Musasa up with the constant "So we meet again!" upon getting new blessings
