The downward strike could aim for the collarbone instead of the head. A doctor told me once that collarbones are pretty easy to break, and it looks less brutal. "Your honor, I prudently and reasonably incapacitated his knife arm, rather than splitting his head open like a watermelon." 😁
I've been practicing Filipino Martial Arts since high school( 1978 ) I've done other weapons based Martial Arts as well, Bando, Karabi, Silat, I also practices Okinawan Martial Arts ,and Hapkido ,Taekwondo, my father taught me jujitsu and judo, my wife is Filipina and he uncle and most of her family were into Martial Arts, I've done other Martial Arts over the years, but the Filipino/ Indonesian Arts are by far my favorite. I also love weightlifting, and endurance sports - i. e. Running and Triathlons. I'm 63 and I still training, I'm planning to do the Los Angeles Marathon 2025, it's going to be my 25th marathon, and first marathon I'll run since 2018. Love working out, it's kept me out of trouble, and I feel it keeps me young. Thank you for your videos.❤
Hi Matt, I train with my Kalli sticks, and I practice whenever my body will allow it, We white males have to be very careful in Canada these days, any seen as non-submissive will feel the full weight of the Law. Disabled people who have been using ball-ended and straight even hooked canes have had them confiscated and at a minimum charged. I had my own stick a Hiking stick or Hanbo, and I can't walk without it approved by the police, I have a spine in two pieces and Arthritis, I don't want to be somewhere and lose my stick, as I can't get far without it. However having been attacked 4 times in the last few years, my stick has saved me every time. I have to walk my dogs in the late evening, or after Dark, thanks to them growing up during COVID and being rescue dogs, plus having few visitors these days. Although the beautiful parks we have locally, are no longer sensible places to go due to the homeless encampments, nowhere is safe anymore, you would think the huge Dogs would dissuade them, but it's the Dogs they're after, plus whatever you have, as a Bonus. That should demonstrate their mindsets. Even if the Cops would or could arrive in Time, it will be me going to Jail and my Dogs probably shot. I do have many years of old-time Judo, JuJitisu /Karate, Fencing and now Kali experience, I find your Demo's most encouraging. Keep up the great work Matt, many thanks.
I'm so sorry to see these kinds of things happening all across the western world. We need to change our cultures and run our societies for the benefit of the productive and innocent instead of the thieves and thugs.
These are really good techniques. The work with a stick or staff of any reasonable length, and they work with a cane. Most of them are very similar to what one would do if he were defending with a knife.
Get some great escrima or Kali sticks in this store bit.ly/2ZS1Cku

Good idea. Unless he puts the knife in the other hand or has a weapon there already. But I appreciate your point!
I broke my collar bone once. Didn’t have any loss of use of that arm.
Thank you very much for your great class.
Stay safe too!!

That's why you buy two baguettes when walking alone at night not one!
HahHa! Good plan!
After a block I wouldn’t have any self defense baguettes left.
Thanks for the video.
I've been sick for about three weeks. I'm just starting to walk again. I'll try to get back to training soon.
Good basics, thank you! ❤❤

You going to vote for Trump?? I guess if you don’t. Your "silly”
Hahahaha. I try to stay away from politics on my channel. I don’t always do that well. The algorithm seems to like one type of voter over another!
Asialents or sticks don’t care who you vote for…
