sanity checks will do that. if an out-of-bounds array index is modulo'd so that it's always in-bounds, if an invalid id is just treated as none or some default, if you check whether or not a key actually has matching value before fetching stuff from the table ... well, then it doesn't matter if you're feeding the code intended data, values in memory meant for something else, or game code being interpreted as data, you'll end up with a result that at its worst maybe seems a little off or like a placeholder, but not outright broken

Came back here because I had a new theory about the first 4 corrupted styles. I think the reason why the chord is always a piano is so the Sebastian Tute plays the chord on the main menu. I thought this because when I play a few Wii Music mods like Melodii, Sebastian (or Sans if you have the custom Tutes on) is playing the chord of the song in the main menu. I’m not sure about the basic drums though. Edit: I think the basic drums are there since you can play the basic drums in the main drum menu.
