Learning how to play the piano can feel frustrating, but it doesn't HAVE to be. I’ve recently re-opened my Casual to Confident Piano Player membership specifically to make the process of learning how to play the piano SIMPLE. We meet many times throughout the month (various times for various time zones) in a group setting where I break things down into understandable and actionable points so that your practice can feel simple, and so that you can make the music that is inside of you.

Absolutely fantastic, easy to understand and more than comprehensive explanation from a beginner perspective!! If online lessons are this great, one wonders how wonderful the in person lessons would be 🙂!! Thank you Ashlee for your instructional videos.

Thank you for this! I have a few students currently using Alberti bass in Sonatinas, but accenting the upbeats. Great tips here.

Thanks for this! I would have liked to see a demo of the final tip. I was left wondering exactly what you meant by what you described. You said to play staccato. Do you stay staccato the whole time, even as you speed up? Won’t that introduce tension? I hope you’ll demonstrate it in a future video on Alberti Bass. Again - thanks for the video!

That’s a great idea, if I could go back and redo it, I would! So the important thing with staccato is that you are being mindful the entire time that you’re not introducing tension. I wouldn’t go fully up to tempo, I would actually recommend that you start slow while doing this and then bring it up just a few notches. While I don’t have a video where I demonstrate that exact technique, I do have a couple of other videos about Alberti bass that you might find helpful (and a brand new one scheduled to be published)! Perhaps youll find this one helpful as well!

Hi Ashlee. Great video - Advice re wrist rotation and key contact is GOLDEN! :D One quick request. Could you please post links to the other videos you mention in the video description as well as in the actual video itself? EG Flash practice and Rhythm practice etc? Much easier to find AFTER watching the main video. Thanks again! :D

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I‘m actually practicing the Haydn sonata at the moment. In 4 months I have to play this piece, but at the moment I really struggle with the Alberti Bass because they are to loud 😅 So I’m really grateful for to have found this video 😊
