      Ikr? I studied a year in Japan and their stalls are completely sealed off! Loved it! Also, maybe it's just me, but bathrooms in the US feel "clinical" if that makes any sense. A lot of metal, and very echoey. I just noticed it being less like that in Japan. More of a sense of privacy there.

    • @wpl6661

      I would say that the French like something light in the morning. Especially Parisians. Coffee with a croissant is common. Or as Manon says a pain au chocolat which is a chocolate stuffed croissant. Americans get up earlier in general and want something hearty for breakfast. Because they don't eat again until noon at least they need something to fill their stomach and last. That often means heavier things. Meat. Bread. Milk. Pancakes. Waffles. Often in a sweet and savory mix which is a thing for Americans. So they will have eggs plus toast which has jam on it with hash brown potatoes and a side of meat like sausage, ham or bacon.

    The American Breakfast is from when families were farmers. Often the men had to have a big hearty breakfast to work the fields, lots of labor involved. It just passed down the generations. Americans love cold drinks. How many Europeans drink ice tea? In the southern states it often comes with the lunch meal.

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 4 роки тому +2

      Actually, people used to practice intermittent fasting. The modern conception of breakfast was created by the food industry and ads saying "You can't be your best if you don't eat a good breakfast." Eating breakfast actually makes people feel lethargic.

Staying hydrated is my biggest concern, at least during the summer. It can easily get over 100 degrees on the shop floor, and fans only help so much before they end up just circulating hot air. Eating heavy in that kind of heat tends to make me feel sick.

    Hi Manon. As a small child my Mom served me peanut butter on bread. No jelly. I liked it, but the peanut butter stuck to the roof of my mouth. When I became a bit older and went to friend's homes, their Moms would serve us peanut butter & grape jelly. I liked that better. The peanut butter didn't really stick to my mouth anymore with the help of the jelly. I asked my Mom to buy grape jelly for my peanut butter sandwich and that's how I continued to eat it. As an adult I don't really like grape jelly with my peanut butter. But I do enjoy strawberry preserves or raspberry preserves. Or even fig preserves. Preserves hold together on the peanut butter sandwich better than jelly. Doesn't leak out of the sides. Also much tastier. In my household growing up, the saltier breakfasts were more of a weekend thing. Before school a quick bowl of cereal or oatmeal with a glass of chocolate milk was typical during the week. My favorite quick breakfast now is a chocolate croissant and a cup of coffee. This makes me feel full of energy and ready to start my day.

    Lol. The thing I couldn’t get over in Europe was the ice thing. We like COLD drinks and since refills aren’t an issue anymore as of about 25 years ago. Yep, bring on the ice!!! I was in London and got a luke warm soda with literally one cube in it. I’d heard about the ice thing and here it was. I asked for a glass of ice figuring I’d have a way around this issue...they brought be a glass with two half melted cubes in it. Hahahaha. I got back to the New York airport and went to a bar and asked for a coke with a full glass of ice. The bartender said “just back from Europe?” Hahaha

    There is a reason for the large restaurant portions and taking the left overs to go. Decades ago some restaurants realized that the food was actually the least expensive part of what they sold customers, compared to the costs of labor, rent, supplies etc. and some began competing on portion size. This kind of got, at least in some places, a bit out of hand. ;) So then we had all these restaurants serving meals that most people would never eat all of, and most of us are taught from an early age not to waste food so taking the rest home just followed naturally.
    Something similar is going on with the free refills. The cost of topping off your glass of soda or cup of coffee is downright negligible compared to paying the staff, owning and running the soda machine and so on so it just became common to offer free refills.

    the mixture of salt and sugar is the "speedball" of food. it's incredibly unhealthy, but it's the pinnacle of deliciousness. And your body craves the combo. That's why people dip fries in Frosties....
    "According to Barb Stuckey, the author of TASTE: Surprising Stories and Science About Why Food Tastes Good, we've evolved to gravitate to sweet foods since they're traditionally the most energy rich (read: high in calories). Our bodies are also conditioned to like salty foods since sodium is an essential mineral we need to function.
    Killing these two biological needs with one stone thus becomes extremely satisfying, with Stuckey comparing it to "hearing beautiful music while sniffing rose petals: two positive sensory stimuli." It explains why it's so easy for us to plow through a bag of kettle corn - and why trail mix is just garbage without the M&Ms."

    OMG, You just have to try a Peanut butter & Jelly (concord grape) sandwich !!! Yes, we hate the bathroom stalls too! I thought I was the only American that enjoyed dipping my french fries in malts or frostys, I've never seen anybody else do it before and people give me a funny look when I do it ...LOL...
