This band was and is so underrated....incredibly talented musicians with no gimmicks, costumes, pyro stuff, etc. just talent and incredible energy. Mark Farner was GFR....he played 5 instruments and all at a high level, he wrote the songs and provided top notch lead vocals as well. An immense talent....at 15, 16 and 17 years old, I thought these guys were the greatest band in the world.
No pedal boards or hell phones in audience. I saw the at this I was 10-11. back when kids where brought to shows by baby sitter or family member, smelled good in there haha..miss these times..now $65$-100+ a seat all bs...hype n greedy promotion companies still raping the artist w talent, called leeches....thnx don mark n Mel ya got me into the guitar n still play alot...paranoid...
Then Don Brewer and Terry Knight had to FUCK IT ALL UP By tricking Mark into a bogus contract with Capital Records. Then Terry Knight Fucked them over by rigging the contract with Capital Records to where he would get all the Monetary rights( 98% ) any how. And got Mark / Don & Mel is serious IRS trouble..Karma came back as Terry Knight was murdered by his daughters BF.
Mark Farner….main writer, lead vocals, bass (early), keyboards, lead guitar, drums, harmonica....one of the most talented musicians and front line showman to ever walk on a stage.
Абсолютно согласен! А Grand Funk Railroad - одна из лучших хард-роковых групп в мире! They and Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep are the Greatest!
Huge GFR fan here, and I can honestly say I have never heard this song before. I get that it's a 'jam' of sorts, but man o manischevitz this is some crazy ass percussion! Mel on cowbell is worth the price of admission alone!
What musical instrument does Mark Farner not play? Keyboards major great guitar licks., harmonica, drums, piano...plus doing great vocals, and writing most of the songs...Mark is still rockin on his own and he is evern better with his guitar playing " Now' at the age of 70 I think...love you Mark such a talent man
I wasn't front row but about 12th and saw them perform this song a few months after this in Miami. If I hadn't seen it live I would never have believed it. These guys were amazing live.
I know I have seen this video before but I don't remember how 'Prog' Craig Frost sounded near the end. I thought I was listening to ELP or YES for a while near the end.
This Music Sound Output Very Clear, Thanks Bro : Grand Funk Railroad''*🌠 - Black Brass'' 1972'' Madison Square Perform'' : Bigolive Show By - JohninFunk , ...... Cherrio.🌠🎵🎼🎸🎤🎸🎼🎵🌠👍👍👍🌠.
Saw Van Halen when they opened for Black Sabbath. Saw them like 3 times in like 6 months. The 2 other times I saw them this act was not reproduced again and I haven't been able to locate any UA-cam video's of them doing it again. Anyway when Alex was doing his drum solo and it was getting close to end David Lee Roth came out and started jamming on the drums with Alex. A few minutes later Anthony came out and he started jamming with Alex and Roth on the drums. Finally Eddie comes out and all 4 were playing, jamming away on the drum kit for a few more minutes. The rhythm that came out through the speakers was unbelievable and I'm not able to give voice to what my ears heard that night. The closest I have seen has been Sully of Godsmack where he has his on kit he jams on and Shannon Larkin plays his. I haven't seen this video before and when I saw Mark starting to pound away it reminded me of the 2 other bands that had another percussionist jamming away with the Drummer of the Band. It just gives the song a special beat. I know the Allman Brothers used 2 drummers but it was a dedicated decision by the band to utilize 2 drummers to create The Allman Brothers Band sound.
I recorded that same show on a reel to reel. I told my parents not to come out into the garage because I would be recording (with a open microphone). It was cold (in the 40's in the garage but I didn't care I got my GFR)! Now I've got the whole show on DVD! Just Sayin'.
They warmed up for Led Zeppelin and rocked the house so hard that Peter Grant demanded the plug be pulled which caused a riot and Led Zeppelin never took the stage that day!
I wonder if Craig‘s equipment got confiscated too? If so, it’s a shame he didn’t have a quarter of that overturn Terry Knights court order to seize the bands equipment.

Have never seen or heard this till now! I've been a fan since 1970....how did I miss this? Wow!

Good Work!!!
Mark Farner also piano,organ
NICE FIND, KILLER GEM!!! M.O'B
The best live band in history.

mark played drums... piano.... organ..... harmonica.... guitar AND sang his ass off .......why is he NOT in the rock and roll hall of fame ????????
and he wrote 90% of the GFR songs as well...incredibly talented

Mark IS GFR
One of the most versatile and most talented musicians in the history of rock and roll. Mark Farner.
He played bass too early on with Terry Knight until they realized he had charisma then thdy moved him upfront.
Man alive, Craig Frost is underrated
Yes he is, no one talks about him. I always thought he was one of the best keyboardists in rock. He really helped propel the band to superstardom !
Craig is one of the best organists of his era. His sound is so unique.
Drums, keyboards and a cowbell. Wow!
THIS ladies and gentlemen is called JAMMING WITH ATTITUDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,very interesting indeed !!!!!!!
Гранд Фанк -супер банда,а здесь мне нравится Дон Брюер,да и вокал у него,вообще ,шикарный ,особенно в 1976 году с Фрэнком Заппой.
What an exciting performance! Wish I had been there on the front row.
I wasn't front row but about 12th and saw them perform this song a few months after this in Miami. If I hadn't seen it live I would never have believed it. These guys were amazing live.
I was there in high school.
We were at that show; our first real concert, and it was the first ‘In Concert’ taping…
I don't think I ever saw Mel so animated! He looks a bit like Will Farrell in that BOC skit on SNL marching around banging that cowbell!!
This must have been in the days when Mark and Don got along :)
This was the first year Craig Frost was with them in 1972 after they'd had their falling out with Terry Knight.
Obviously..!
Zeppelin fans take note. This is raw Detroit MI talent!
Best live band in the world from my view from 1969 through 1975...and those were my teenage years when I owned every albumn. :)
In Atlanta Zeppelin they shit their pants...
My brother and I was at this show; our first big time concert...
My first big one was Grand Funk also. Portland, Oregon 1974. A little later but nice to meet ya.
American band tour St paul MN.
My first gfr concert that is
I know I have seen this video before but I don't remember how 'Prog' Craig Frost sounded near the end. I thought I was listening to ELP or YES for a while near the end.
For years after I'd seen them in concert I told people Mark Farner played drum on a song and they said I was crazy. Well, here's the evidence!
Those are timbales, it's not a drum kit, Sparky.
Come on … just so good!
Just a GREAT BAND and KILLER SONG!!! 🎸❤
This was my first concert
Absolutely Great Stuff 🎹🎸🥁
And subscribed ❤
THIS is when they used to be Great. NOW they are just a band using the name GFR IN SEARCH of a MARK FARNER. NO MARK, NO FUNK...PERIOD!
Que tremenda banda ❤❤❤

INCREDIBLE!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!👍👌🇺🇸🎼
You can make some incredibly soulful music with a minimum of percussion and organ--The Railroad prove it right here!
HEY MAN!! NO FARNER NO FUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aw heck, this ain't so bad, is it?
I guess we know where Yes got inspiration for their music.
Don't say it to loud,shout out. !!

This is from the show In Concert that was shown on Friday night. I recorded the whole show on a cassette.
I recorded that same show on a reel to reel. I told my parents not to come out into the garage because I would be recording (with a open microphone). It was cold (in the 40's in the garage but I didn't care I got my GFR)! Now I've got the whole show on DVD! Just Sayin'.

Somebody's gotta do it, might as well be Don.
mark prob were have a better drummer
Never a fan of 4 man GF.
really unfortunate that you are so closed minded. Slugger.
That’s kind of silly because that’s the best version of the band…
…only if you like Pop better than Rock.@@TheInOrIn
Terry Knight was waiting backstage with a writ that allowed him to confiscate all their gear. Armed sheriff's deputies enforced it.
I wonder if Craig‘s equipment got confiscated too? If so, it’s a shame he didn’t have a quarter of that overturn Terry Knights court order to seize the bands equipment.
