Even though I'm not a fan of the remake, I enjoy seeing someone at least be able to defend it and the video was well made!
CZs World
I also like the remake and the original
"You guys, that was me, Kylie."
First laugh of the day.
I was born in the 80's so the original wins no contest. The remake shouldn't even be in same conversation. You can't reinvent the wheel. Cast is amazing. I'm actually gonna be meeting Robert Englund and the entire freddy 3 cast in November, so stoked
In other words you only put this above the remake is because you grew up with it, not because it’s actually better but i guess.
*Nightmare 1984* : Memorable after almost 40 years
*Nightmare 2010* : Not memorable after 40 minutes
That's basically the difference in all these modern remakes, they are so watered down and generic that they leave the viewer with nothing, no memories, no quotable lines, nothing.
I love the original. I also like the remake. I actually like the overtness of CM. It gives the revenge aspect a little more grounding as to why he goes after the kids instead of the parents that killed him. The Freddy Wall scene is much better in the original. In the remake, I wish they actually followed through with "Freddy was innocent" angle they started going down. The situation of falsely accused teachers by preschool kids was an actual case in California. I think they just couldn't figure out how to end it if they went that direction. So, it became a plot thread just hung there.
Yes!!! Katie Cassidy was a real missed opportunity!!! I was really disappointed (but not surprised) that her Character got killed off but she was a real shining moment of the first 1/3 of the remake.
Again with the kick ass intro 😎 , stoked for this one!
There was a joy that Robert Englund's Freddy got out of toying with his victims that really set the tone of his Freddy beautifully. He was playing with his food, and got an almost childlike delight out of it. The audience could share in his joy. Shifting the tone to make it all sexual in nature just made it too skeezy. You can't root for that.
Yea too mean spirited for my taste 🤧
I don't get why the remake did the "was Freddy innocent and wrongly accused" subplot because it's revealed he was guilty and a paedophile anyway.
@@HauntedHippie I would love to see you make a comparison video between Species 1 vs Species 2 and Species 3 and which one of those 3 is the superior film.
@@HauntedHippie If you were to make a future Nightmare on Elm Street Movie, what concepts would you like to put in the film?
You root for him to kill children?
Jackie Earle Haley was phenomenal despite the fact that people don’t love this movie. He deserves another chance.
Honestly this is one of the few remakes I don’t go back to, but holy hell Jackie Earle Haley was a menacing Freddy, also that was some good spanish
This is just the second video of yours I've seen, but you REALLY know your stuff. I'm super impressed. There's not a lot of deeper breakdowns of horror on UA-cam.
Personally there are 2 things I'd change about this movie
1) the title of the movie should've been in the opening titles not after the first kill, I always thought that was weird
2) Freddy should've been falsey accused, idk how the parents could've come to the conclusion that he was hurting kids but it would differentiate it from the original, like when they were looking at the pictures instead of "Those" photos it should've been them just having fun kinda like family pictures and maybe have him say something like "I loved you kids... Like you were my own and THIS IS THE THANKS I GET?!?!?!?" or something like that I'm not a writer lol
A audience member had a heart attack in the showing before ours. We saw them taken away in a ambulance. Quite a way to set the mood that's for sure. This movie hit big upon its release and launched a franchise.
Oh jeez
That sucks
@@B1Kobe0824 Original in 1984.
Probably a bit lost on new -ish audiences but this film came out right after the recession and the housing bubble burst. I remember going into theaters to watch it and they had all those big "McMansion" style house glory shots in it, juxtaposed to hearing how everyone was losing their houses in the past couple of months. This is also juxtaposed to the original, which had shots in poor urban areas, including some that were supposedly gang-ridden in Italy. No one really talked about it back then, but I immediately took note that it was yet another thing presumably stroking audiences the wrong way.
Also thanks for all the Heather/Nancy love! She's so wildly under appreciated!!
That was the very first vhs video cassette i ever rented. It's great to see your passion for the movies !
As always a great review/comparison with an funny intro. What made the brilliant Mister Craven was not only style, but also a lot of substance. Thats kind of missing in the remake: it's a lot of style, not much more. But Jackie Haley is awesome in everything he does, he saves the movie. At the beginning of the video you showed an excerpt from an interview. Here one can see Wes Craven's claim and ambition to bring the real horrors of life to the screen. He really was an artist who put a lot of thought and heart into each of his projects.
I’m a self obsessed expert on this franchise and can talk about it all day long , great video I think I found a new favourite UA-cam channel 😊
You get so many words in without ever stumbling, You're amazing. Great analysis.
My God! David Warner as Freddy Krueger would’ve been brilliant. Don’t get me wrong I love Robert Englund as Freddy but just a thought of David Warner is amazing.
Glad I stumbled on your channel. Good stuff. You deserve way more subscribers and views.
Original will always be better
I’m more of a fan of the remake, idk y, I love it
True
I think a lot of movies have been better than the original. Especially in horror, like The Thing and The Fly. And It: Chapter 1
@@123rockfan John Carpenter’s The Thing was more of a reimagining and less of a remake
@@123rockfan did you just say that the thing is better then the original?
Freddy from “Freddy Got Fingered” is ten times scarier than the great value version of Freddy from the Elm Street remake
"I know a thousand gay people just panicked" LMAOOO so true. Fantastic vid as always, and yes the OG reigns supreme!
I don't get it. What's that referring to?
I just feel like Kylie really embodied the physicality I look for in a Freddy. Is that controversial?
Hahahahah
@@B1Kobe0824 me genius. Very obvious you didn’t watch the video and are just bugging my subs in the comments
Robert Englund also mentioned that James Cagney influenced Freddy as well. Cagney was an actor in the 1930s who did a lot of crime /gangster films. Cagney had a whole swagger to him that Englund wanted to bring to Krueger.
There has never been a review of both of these movies where the reviewer has hit each and every point exactly that I felt with both movies. I grew up with the original Nightmare in the 80's so I went into the remake with a heavy bias. Thank you so much for the review and you have gained a new subscriber.
Welcome to the channel!
Great video, as always! Glad your Nancy love is growing❤️❤️❤️. She has ALWAYS been my favorite🥰
I’m shocked you only have 20k. Your videos rock!
I was about 12 when they announced the 2010 remake, and I was so upset at the time that Robert Englund wasn't playing Freddy I actually made a UA-cam video complaining about it 😭 I'm 25 now and can finally appreciate Jackie Earl Haley's performance, still not a fan of the movie tho, the OG will always be the best in my eyes
badass intro. ur videos are awesome, glad we're friends, and last week tuesday was my birthday
The music from the original is by far one of the greatest horror themes of all time. From the dirty synth dives to the iconic nursery rhyme it listening to it is goose bump city.
I think it’s very cool to look at the remakes, even when they’re not very popular.
I thoroughly enjoyed you’re discussions and breakdowns of the original vs the remake, I however find Robert England’s Freddy in nightmares one, 3 and new nightmare to be more terrifying than Jackie’s! But I have mad love and respect for both of their versions.
The remake has grown slightly on me over the years, I still look at it as a really waisted opportunity to break new ground rather than just put it on for entertainment, I can never quite finish the whole movie because certain things just bore me or annoy me too much, that being said I appreciate the attempt and I love some of the dream sequence’s as well as the lighting which you seem to highlight in you’re assessment! Cheers to you! Thanks for the video!
Rocking the Freddy sweater, awesome!
The OG is my favorite movie ever!! Words can’t describe how much I love this video.
In the never sleep again documentary they said Robert England's lopsided stance was from how heavy the original glove was.
Excellent commentary on taking power away from your abuser. I feel that when I stopped letting my mentally abusive dad from controlling my life and emotional blackmailing me. He retaliated by blocking me.
So sorry to hear about that
I'm cool with Jackie's portrayal. I think it's really solid. I think the movie though, is bad. It's all corny, bad writing/acting (minus Jackie), bad CGI. Bad plot. The plot is a middle school version of the original.
I think it could have been a nice great film, if the film itself was reworked, wrote, shot, and casted. I'm not against remakes of any sort. My favorite Jason is the 2009 remake.
Also, I really wish that the twist was that Fred was actually innocent, and didn't touch those children. That wokld be a cool way to do something different with the remake, without really changing anything story wise.
The 1984 original remains supreme in terms of content, execution and uniqueness.
A confident entertaining girl who knows her horror and can see the good in the remakes despite the issues. I'm sold, new subscriber gained
What are your opinions on the alternate ending of the remake? Personally I would have preferred it to the one we got, as it felt more poignant to the theme of SA. Still I wish they went with the innocent Freddy idea they considered while writing the script. I can't wrap my head around how they wanted to turn the remake into a marketable franchise with the new backstory of Freddy Krueger.
Lol "Somebody named David Warner"...Adorable.
The bottom line is, there is no reason for this newer version to exist, apart from corporate greed.
15:45 DUDE! Ive been saying this FOR YEARS. This movie woukd have been SO MUCH BETTER if Nancy died instead of Tina, which woukd have fit the "kill the person everyone thinks is the protagonist" thing Wes/Hitchcock did AND like you said Katie Cassidy was AWESOME. So glad Im not the only one that sees this
Def earned a sub for such a brilliant take :)
4:58 Somebody named David Warner? David Warner was a pretty big actor back in the day. David Warner had roles in The Omen, Titanic, Tron, the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and several roles in Star Trek. He also had a lot of voice roles in cartoons such as Ra's al Ghul in Batman: TAS, Herbert Landon in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, and Alpha in Men in Black: The Series. Yeah, David Warner was kind of a big time actor.
Well he’s obviously not a household name lol gotta be a B lister at best considering you felt it worthy to bring up a teenage mutant ninja turtles credit and others I’ve never heard of
@@HauntedHippie Others you never heard of? Several of those movies and shows that I listed are extremely popular. Martin Scorsese is a very famous director who has directed several great movies, but I didn't know who he was until a few years ago. Just because you personally never heard of David Warner that doesn't mean he isn't famous.
@@brandonbaker6953 okay that tells me everything I need to know if you didn’t know one of the most famous film directors literally of all time Lmfaoooo. And don’t twist my words I didn’t say he wasn’t famous, but he’s definitely not a household name.
Famous or not, saying 'somebody named... ' sounds a bit dismissive/disrespectful. I'm pretty sure it wasn't intended, but just be aware.
David Warner is a great actor in his own right. Not a lot of horror films but Wes did get to work with him as the drama teacher in Scream 2. My personal favorite role of his is in Time Bandits
Awesome content keep it up! Thank you:)
The actor who Robert Englund replaced was respected british stage and film actor David Warner. His acting career started in in 1962 and at the time of his death this year had 227 credits on his imdb page... among his many credits were Titanic and the voice of Ra's Al Ghul in Batman The Animated Series.
He also played the photographer in The (original) Omen.
Lol reminds me of when I used to chase my younger siblings around the house with knives and pencils taped to my fingers 😂🤣🤘
I respect what they did with the remake. The impression is got was that they were not going to do camp, they were trying to make it and out and out horror flick, and I think Jackie did a great job at making Freddy a scary character.
I just see the ending as a nightmare letting us know Freddy's not dead.
Always the original. Freddy don't even look scary in the remake!
What I can find creepier in the original isn't that Freddy has an implied sexual nature to him, but that Nancy and her friends most likely had older siblings they forgot about. Nancy at least had to have one since her mom is dealing with everything the worst.
@@B1Kobe0824 Just because it was a deleted scene doesn't mean it's not true. That's why I said implied rather than saying they outright announced it. The movie is written and filmed with that in mind so when it's cut out, it's still felt.
@@B1Kobe0824 most scenes get cut for time and pacing because it's what the studio wants (which is why a movie like terrifier 2 is so long since it didn't have limitations). If you look at the movie as is, then I guess you can come to that conclusion, but I always assumed she had to have had an older sibling. I didn't even know there was a scene that actively said so for a while. It just made sense because why else would Nancy's mom have the glove? Why would she take it the hardest? Why would her dad be so void? They're responding to the trauma of losing a child and killing the man who did it and realizing it didn't solve anything.
With a good story, there's another story within that can be found. Taking a scene like that out let's the audience piece it together through the context clues that do still exist. When you write a reveal like that, it seeps in other parts of the script. You could take out the twist of the 6th sense and people will still grasp that Bruce Willis was dead throughout the film.
@@SirNerdLeroy If there's a plot point that's only in a deleted scene, that plot point becomes irrelevant - therefore, I get what you're saying but this particular instance there is no sibling nor implied sibling.
@@mattdad8429 It's not irrelevant, it's just not shown. Nancy having an older sibling isn't confirmed nor denied. It is implied, though, since that was the original intent and it shows throughout the movie. Deleting the scene could have just been for pacing. The scene adds lore more than pushing the plot forward. It's not needed since it's something the audience can gather through context clues. Which is why I always thought she had an older sibling before knowing there was a deleted scene.
I've dealt with a bunch of movies and shows saying there was a secret sibling all along or even taking a sibling away with no explanation. Saying Nancy most likely had one isn't far fetched. Especially from a movie where they actively pulled back elements and let them be implied rather than pointed out directly.
IT WAS YOU!!? The whole time ? 👁👄👁 hahahaha great intro
Got you didn’t I 😌
@@HauntedHippie yep! Good ol’ classic game of throned me! 🥲👻 hahahaha
Yeah gonna have to kindly disagree with you on the newer Freddy being scarier. Maybe it's my bias from sneaking into the living room in 1985 at 6 and watching it on VHS for the first time, and it being my favorite horror movie of all time (honorable mention goes to I Saw The Devil) but the part one Krueger was terrifying. His herky jerky movements, and that rotted teethed smile and eyeball twitch when he cut off his finger to Tina. Englund absolutely figured that puzzle out brilliantly. I just laughed at the Haley version, it was just so preposterous to me.
Honestly prefer Quinton as well. Big fan of Kyle Gallner and feel he’s a bit underrated.
Probably an unpopular opinion here but after The Conjuring I’ve always been morbidly curious as to what a James Wan directed Nightmare remake would look like.
I’d love to see that. And I love Kyle Gallner he’s one of my favorite scream kings
I always thought he was a bitch and wanted him to get killed quick
There's Something About The Original That Just Stands Against The Test Of Time Compared To The Remake To The Point Where If The Original Was Made Today With Wes Craven Still Alive In Process, It Would Continue To Be One Of The MOST Talked About BEST Horror Movies In History As It Was Praised Back Then To Even Now When Horror Fans Bring Up Horror Movies.
I remember going to see the remake on its second weekend and literally being the only one in the theater. Enough said...
Bet that word of mouth was 🗑
1 is still too many.
I'll admit I've never watched the remake; never really had the desire to. The original is one of my favorite horror movies ever. I did find this really interesting since I've never seen a breakdown like this for the remake
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about these two films. Many of the tidbits/facts you brought up I've known for many years. Like yourself, I can never get enough of ANOES. Of course I love the original. I pretty much don't like the remake. But I do like Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy. He is the only reason to see this movie IMO. Thanks again haunted hippie, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more content like this. Love your intro as Freddy. You looked adorable tip toeing up the stairs like the Grinch. Keep up the great work. Your fellow Nightmare fan.
Robert England is the one and only Freddy Kruger anyone else
in the costume is just somone dressed like freddy
love the little run up the steps🤣
As someone in the Elm street collecting and glove building / collecting communities the remake Glove is amazing. It clamps around the wrist and screws shut and is built completely different than any of the other gloves which usually all follow a similar template.
original is such a comfort movie! also, will you do a review for the midnight club? really loved that show
Not a solo review but I’ll dedicate plenty of time to it in my october wrap up!
I'm a really big nightmare on elm street fan and horror fan, I found this really interesting, will go and watch all the other videos you've done now as well as subscribe.
This is the most objective critique I ever saw/heard/read about the remake. So many fans are prompt to spit on it just because of the bad CGI.
But though it's no point discussing the fact that he would never equals the original, I think it's far from being the worst of the franchise. When I saw it the first time in theater, it shook me. And this is a thing not so many horror movies could pretend having done.
“ God, I look 20 years old”. Lol. 😂
I've only ever seen the remake once and in the theater. I didn't hate it but it just didn't click with me. Robert Englund IS Freddy. Jackie Earl Haley had a difficult task of bringing a despicable character who became a fan favorite back to their evil roots but fans want to cheer Freddy and you just can't do that in the remake without feeling disgusted. In that respect he did his job and maybe if Freddy hadn't become such an icon it might have worked better. Maybe I'd feel different if I could ever get myself to have a second viewing but I just can't get myself to do so.
Very well done comparison. However, I do feel I need to respond to one particular thing you said when talking about remake Freddy at 23:21 of your video:
“But what about the make up, it looks so stupid!” Bring a new thought to the table”
Well, I am gonna bring a new thought to the table and respectfully disagree with you here. Now I could be reaching/being a bit over analytical here, but that comment came off a little too…”dismissive” of that criticism for me when I watched it. Yes, you CAN get used to the makeup after a while on repeat watchings, but imo it is still a valid criticism, and for deeper reasons than just the superficial complaint of “It looks stupid/ugly”. Some people have tried to defend the makeup by claiming “Well, it’s more realistic of how burn victims would actually look.” But this reasoning I think fundamentally misses the point of who Freddy Krueger is as a character. Yes, the make up isn’t as realistic and certainly looks a lot more “demonic” in the original film, but I think that was the point. Freddy has carte blanche be whoever he wants, whatever he wants, and do whatever he wants in the dream world. The makeup looking a lot more monstrous & demonic to me at least thematically makes sense; he is “The Dream Demon” after all.
Idk if his look warrants you being so analytical only because in this very video I showed the makeup artist explaining he created the look by playing around with a pepperoni pizza lol
@@HauntedHippie Tut, tut! Demon pizzas are nothing to mess around with. Once you summon one from the sketchy looking pizza place, it's over!
;)
“Somebody named ‘David Warner’”
WoW! The way you said that as if David Warner was some Joe Schmoe 😂 😂😂😂😂
To my generation he is lol had never heard of him before this
@@HauntedHippie yeah I understand.
I wouldn’t recognize too many modern day movie stars right now if they came up and shook my hand.
It’s sad though because David Warner was one of the greats. He recently passed away. David Warner was in many many great films (and many many awful films) but one particular favorite was 1979’s TIME AFTER TIME.
He was elegant, cool and the consummate actor.
You know how so many people have no imagination and say things like
“I can’t imagine anybody else in such-and-such a part”
David Warner would’ve been an inspired Freddy Krueger.
@@HauntedHippie here’s an excellent video about David Warner‘s career.
ua-cam.com/video/e0YNXtSOMxY/v-deo.html
Something I like about the remake is how they talk about how he might have been wrongly accused and was maybe an innocent man. Then they didn’t do that😐
I definitely enjoy both the original and the remake for different reasons. I appreciate the remake trying different and new things. As you mentioned in your breakdown the exploration of micro-naps was really awesome and if Nightmare on Elm Street ever returns that's definitely something they should take from the remake. I also enjoyed Freddy's mannerisms in the remake, the way he'd just toy with his bladed glove is cool and it makes the glove feel like an extension of Freddy rather than an accessory.
One other thing I would like to tackle is that you mentioned that remake Freddy is scarier, and while I do agree that compared to the original films Jackie's Freddy is scarier, however, I'd like to point out Robert Englund's portrayal as Freddy in both New Nightmare and Freddy vs. Jason. Specifically Freddy vs. Jason. I feel like Robert's portrayal in Freddy vs. Jason was peak Freddy, imo, Robert took everything he learned as Freddy over the years and perfected it. I would love to have a new Nightmare on Elm Street film with Robert as Freddy but portrayed how he was in Freddy vs. Jason. If we can get that someday that it'll be my perfect Nightmare film.
Overall, yeah original still takes it the win.
I hope your having a wonderful day and great review the original nightmare on elm street will always be the best

Christmas must be a real bummer for you then. 😄 jk
@@robk.6591 honestly, yeah lmao, not cause the Color’s tho. Xmas just brings me down , its weird! Halloween all year for me hahaha
Wow, had no clue about that National Film Registry list. Interesting only 1 movie in the last 30 years has made it considering the frequency the older movies show up. I see it has to be at least 10 years old to qualify. Would be an interesting topic to see if any more horror movies from 1981 - 2013 deserve to be there and any 2013+ that should make the list when their 10 years hits.
It would be a fun livestream maybe to present our cases for the movies we think deserve to make the registry haha
First, I love how you break them down into categories and analyze them with facts. Second, I'd take the original all day. While I love Jackie's voice for Freddy, I wasn't a fan of the directorial decisions with the story and Robert was able to make it fun because of Wes. The fact that Wes wasn't even asked about the remake also kind of rubs me the wrong way, but I agree with you on Tina and Glen getting an upgrade in the new one.
I prefer the 1984 version. Better than the remake. I also like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2. In part 2 Freddy's makeup was cool. And he was very dark in part 2. Love your channel
Firstly, you have an extraordinarily practical view of the world. I do enjoy hearing your thoughts and their objectivity.
Now for my opinion. I prefer neither over the other. They are different films of the same name and each offer their own strengths. I dont play games or watch films for effects. Simply storyline! I feel Jackies Freddy is much scarier. The fury in his sadistic nature is truly frightening. I share a sense of humor with Roberts, take from that what you will.
In any case, thank you for this!
I watch you every couple months, great channel…
Super cool video subbed!
Welcome!
Ok, I was drinking water when you did your creep walk up the stairs and I choked a little! Never laugh while drinking water! You were too funny. Loved the intro. The thing that bugs me the most about the remake wasn't so much the darker tone (if you're going to show the ugliness of people, then do that) but late in the movie they show him frolicing with the kids like some fun uncle! That was gross because they wanted to make him likeable as well as being a gross monster. They were too wrapped up in the origin story idea to see what they were doing imo. I hope it wasn't intentional! They needed to pick one idea over the other. Fun uncle or gross monster. Having both really bothers me to this day!
Omg yea it’s so weird I didn’t even get into the whole thing where they think freddy is innocent for like 2 seconds before they realize he wasn’t. They leave a lot of room for sympathy
Roger L Jackson EMBODIES Ghostface. Nick Castle EMBODIES Michael Myers. Kane Hodder EMBODIES Jason Voorhees. ONLY Robert Englund EMBODIES Freddy Krueger. That's the way it is!!! Badass sweater btw. Those colors just so ICONIC.
I'm going through Friday and NIghtmare with some friend's right now. First time going through Nightmare. I'll peep this in like a month after we've seen the remake ;.;
So hyped.
Turns out it took two months. I think I agree with you on all fronts. The remake is pretty, but it doesn't go much further than that, save for being fantastically uncomfortable.
I only wish the dreams didn't always devolve into the boiler room each time.
Love your content! The 1984 film wins hands down! The remake felt like a CGI retread of the original, but not as scary or effective. The death of Chris was more reminiscent of WWE than the scary nightmarish bloody scene of Tina's death in the original.
I just didn’t care about the characters in the remake, and therefore I didn’t care about anything that happened to them. Disagree about remake Freddy being scarier. There was something very creepy about how much fun original Freddy seemed to be having when he terrorized the kids.
I've never been a big fan of the original but I have to choose it over the remake
The original is better, the whole concept and cinematography was revolutionary for its time. Freddy isn’t just another almost zombie like slasher type character like Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers. He enjoys what he does.
The ending really spoils the first one, and it’s the same in the reboot. I’m not sure why they didn’t fix it.
The reboot did improve things with advancements in technology but it didn’t improve the characters, aside from the different angle they took with Freddy, the other characters are just vapid. There’s no-one to root for. Even though Freddy is likeable, you should still want Nancy, the final girl to win out and survive. With the reboot, it’s team Freddy all the way.
The only one who tried in the remake was Jackie Earl Haley
I know I feel bad for him :(
@@stonegasman3866 oof well he's wrong about that
I'm like the one person in the world that prefers Jackie earl Haley's Freddy over the original.
@@dfhorrorproductions9691 YOU are not alone my friend!
I like both the Original and Remake I like the 2010 Freddy Krueger voice glove and the song and I like the Micro Naps Sleep idea too.
Omg I’m so glad this wasn’t a video of you trying to convince me somehow the remake was actually better. I just always felt the remake was terrible imo. And I like that you’re not a Wes Craven hater because believe it or not there are actual horror “fans” that are. Love your personality and channel
Seriously?? What did he ever do to them 😭
A comparison for Evil Dead would be sick!!!
Oh shit you already did that lol nice!
the original nightmare on elm street 1984 is an absolute classic. one of the best horror films. the 2010 version doesn't even compare to the slightest. no debate needed.🎃

The remake was the worst movie remake I have seen in my life
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
At the time (2009), I was just hype we were finally getting a new Freddy movie at all so I just enjoyed it despite the flaws. It really isn't that bad
Wes Craven based on the original Elm Street on Fritz Lang's M, which was a movie about a child murderer who is captured by the community and tried in a vigilante court. It even has creepy kids singing songs about the killer.
Someone who has been a fan from the very beginning I have to say that I agree with your assessment. The remake explored some interesting ideas with the micro naps and with the makeup of Freddy being more akin to a burn victim, and it was far less campy. However that said, it wasn't as much fun. It seems as though in that period of the early 2010s when they were remaking all of the stuff from the '80s and '90s they tried to put a more dark and grounded and realistic spin on things which I felt personally, just really killed the point of these movies. They are not an in-depth character study about human evil, they are supposed to be fun house rides that are over the top and colorful and scary that you can take your girlfriend to and you know comfort her in the dark of the movie theater while she hides her eyes in your shoulder. But the remake all these remakes just come off as brutal and unnecessarily over the top in all the wrong ways. When approaching a subject matter that is so dark, I have to go with Wes craven's original idea of downplaying the facts of the horrific nature of Freddy Krueger and instead up the action and the quippiness and the playfulness that made it scary but also a lot of fun. I guess this is just a really wordy way of saying I prefer the original I prefer all the originals. That's not to say that I didn't find merit in the remakes I just felt that they had kind of missed the point a little bit. I'm a new subscriber your nightmare on elm Street movie comparison was my first video of yours that I've seen and I'm watching now Halloween H2O versus Halloween ends and I am actually quite intrigued. Keep up the good work I enjoy the content thank you. And it's nice to know that the newer generations appreciate the efforts of decades before, it's very nice.
Elm Street was the street JFK was assassinated on
Sometimes when people walk around they accidentally step in dog shit. You can walk around for hours not knowing what the hell that smell is and then you take your shoes off. The next time you go to leave the house you notice there's this dry crusty stinky mess on the bottom of your shoe, that's the remake of A Nightmare on Elm street.
I remember the original nightmare on elm street very well, one of my first horror movies when I was young. I remember watching it with my older sister who I think was watching it with her friends. I wanted to watch it too and she told me if I get scared it wasn't her problem or something. Anyways it was my chance to be cool with older kids. I watched it and it was great Freddy did scare me as a young kid. Yet, he was memorable, his cackle the way he enjoyed terrorizing the kids I loved it.
The remake however, I barely remember anything about it. I watched some movie reviews to help me remember, when I did watch it, sorry it was boring, there was no suspense no build up. Just jump scares, even showing Freddy so quickly in the beginning. I had issues with it, when the whole class of children repressed what happened to them, I remember springwood being a small town like area so it was odd that some characters said I didn't meet dean till highschool or middle school. maybe it was a bigger area so I tried to let it slide. Second if every kid repressed what happened to him, than how could their memories make Kruegar stronger? by that logic he should be weak as heck, if none of them remembered. This is why I think Nancy or Chris should have been the one to remember. Like they have nightmares of what happened to them yet never see Freddy's face just a figure with claws. This is what gives Freddy his power as he makes the other kids remember to get more power. It would have fixed that plot at least. Now in the original Freddy was convicted and let go on a technicality. So, mob justice made sense, yet in the remake Freddy never was on trail, they had little to no evidence, some scratches on the kids back or a tear in clothes, being a kid I scraped myself up and ripped my clothes, but even with this little evidence there is no trial and mob justice happens. Now they tried to make Freddy look innocent an idea I was okay with because it was a new idea. yet they didn't do a good job of portraying him as innocent, maybe if he started killing off some adults and then some kids it may have worked I am unsure. Remake Freddy wasn't super scary not trying to disrespect the actor but his performance was a bit bland. In some scenes he sounded whiny, the original Freddy laughed, taunted, enjoyed every moment he had with the kids. He seemed more terrifying. The remake Nancy was also bland and boring I prefer the original Nancy. So, to me the original is better and the remake sadly wasn't rememberable at all.
