Biggest issue I had with trying to customize two MSV's, was the separation of the actual cab, upper and lower, and the removal of the wheels. I know you can cut-off the axle tabs, but I wish I knew how to take the wheels off of the axle.
Thanks for doing that: It is always very helpful to see what you might run into when taking things apart! Battery size is picked based on capacity (How long it will run) and internal resistance (the lower the internal resistance, the more current you can pull). You can get AA batteries today that have 6 times the capacity and twice the current draw of D cells in the early 1970's.

Getting the wheels off is a bitch!
Try heating them up with a hairdryer.
