Hi Scott! I found your videos last month when I decided that I was going to retire early at 62-63 years old rather than work until I’m 70 and too old and tired to adventure. I’m from Michigan and slightly worried about adapting to the weather but my bigger concern is whether or not a mobility scooter is allowed? I’m just shy of 60 so I have some time to plan but I’m almost certain to need one as I am already having trouble with my knee. Also being from Michigan and loving my Lakes like I do could you please speak some about why the lakes aren’t used there? I’m assuming it has something to do with the creatures that inhabit the tropics vs my cold Lakes? I’m leaning towards something in the highlands but then I’m certainly going to need the scooter. I don’t currently drive due to a neurological disorder that affects my eyes and will be leaning heavily on the local transportation. I have started using duolingo to learn Spanish with hopes of taking a couple of classes at the local community college before I would be moving.
I have worked as either a cashier or currently am working doing overnight stocking and have a 21 year old daughter and a 1 year old grandson. Leaving them behind will be difficult but my retirement will coincide with my losing my weekly “babysitting” job as he will be starting preschool and she will hopefully be married by then 🤞 I also have a Plott hound who will be very senior by then if she makes it that long 🙏🏻
I joined the Navy in my youth wanting to see the world but life is funny and I never left the continent so I’m not really afraid of moving nor do I feel much loyalty to a country that I have to leave in order to live so I’m not worried about the State Department’s travel warning but it’s a concern for my family. My hope will be to save enough money living down there to travel home in the summers to visit family and friends. I am sure that I will think of more questions as I plan so thank you so much for your hard work on this channel, I watch your videos for at least three hours a day 😅.
My expected social security income will be 1000-1100 depending on when I retire. I hope to rent a place for a max of $400 a month. Also you have mentioned the lunar month thing, does that mean I will have to plan to pay an extra months worth of rent or can I rent for 10 months and then return to the states for 2?

    1. I still recall what I thought of Nicaragua before visiting... Jungle and contra warriors! Such a difference in reality.
    2. The image of what America presents for sure leads to the wanting more stuff... It's crazy... Keeping up with the Joneses! It's not possible.

(Avg person met): “Nicaragua? You’re moving to the islands? Don’t they ‘grow’ cocaine there?”
Sad testament to our public education/propaganda system in ‘Merika.

At least it isn't targeted. Ask students in Texas the most basic things about Texas that nearly the whole world knows and they are often clueless.
The average person I talk to confuses Nicaragua with Nigeria, which they also know nothing about.

Hi Scott - hope you’re able to make it back to warmer weather soon. This may not be the place to ask this question, but I wanted to know if you had any information about border runs to Costa Rica. Specifically, does Nicaragua still allow the border run to renew your visa. We just got the 30 day extension on our 90 day visa and want to do the border run next since we will be flying to the States in May. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Scott I need to drop my membership because I it will not be coming to Nicaragua now. It's a possibility in the future but I have to be convincing to my friend that it's safe to go there it has a status 3 crime rate which is don't go. So is there any way that you can help me with that it doesn't have to be quickly because I can't go yet

No idea how I can help with that. If someone is intentionally seeking misinformation, convincing them isn't the challenge. Facts will only make them dig in. It means that they are upset with reality. They are prioritizing something over the truth. Maybe look to find why they are so politically motivated and willing to seek misinformation to avoid finding out for themselves. But I can't imagine how I can help. Even if you open their eyes to the truth, with that mentality, it is very unlikely that they will be happy. If they come and it is like they imagine, obviously they won't like it. If they come and it isn't, it will undermine their world view and typically make them angry that you've exposed that they seek misinformation. There's no winning in that scenario.
Maybe approach it from a "why would they lie to YOU in that way?" Ask them to be respectful of you and not repeat things that are obvious lies to you. Because they are being dishonest with you, personally. That they hate Nicaragua and will seek ways to avoid it, whatever, it's not everyone's cup of tea. But that they won't just say that to you but claim that they think it is dangerous when obviously they know that isn't likely, is super disrespectful. Maybe push for some respect as an approach?

Another approach is to find out where they ARE willing to look or live, then show that those places are (almost certainly) less safe than here and question why they are okay for something less safe and not more safe in Nicaragua. The "rating" system is subjective, but violent crime rates are not. So show that if they are okay with, for example, being in the USA, that they have already shown that Nicaragua is okay in that regard and push for why they aren't willing to be "more safe" regardless of its rating.

I'm autistic so I'm not a good resource for this. For me, people being openly dishonest with me (especially for very bad racist or negative political reasons) that will not accept facts or logic is insanely offensive at a person level and is a "cut that person out of my life" kind of situation rather than an "attempt them to be logical or honest" kind of situation. I've learned that pushing people to use facts, logic or just honesty is a no-win situation. Once people are willing to lie to you to get their way, especially when "their way" seems to be based on something really bad, there's no value to the friendship. I don't want people who would treat me that way in my life. So I don't really have the skills to turn people who act that way around. Being autistic really requires me to focus on filtering people rather than cajoling people. I have little ability to understand what would drive someone to act that way, so I can't empathize to try to make them want to act good.

Or you can try "just coming" first. Then when you say things are certainly safe, it's about "denying you and calling YOU a liar" instead of just denying facts and information and logic. but I fear you'll just expose the obvious point that likely they are just making excuses and not willing to tell you the truth that their personal feelings make being around certain groups of people is something that they aren't willing to do and they are using misinformation as a means of not telling you the real reason that they don't want to come. But if they are actually a friend, they'll believe you and come. If they aren't, maybe good that you know where you stand.
