    You are an absolute treasure, thank you you have made my journey into composing so much more clear and grounded, rather than doing everything on feeling and intuition.

    This helped me! I am currently writing an orchestral waltz, been somewhat stuck for days now but this pulled the plug. I could even contruct new emotional characters regardless of being in the same minor, just because of the longer rhythmical differences. Thank you for the videos you make, they are of great value!

    I've been using this technique for as long as I can remember, but I never knew what the formal terminology is. This lesson ties in nicely with your recent "Happy Birthday" lesson.

    As you allude at one point, augmentation can make quite a magnificent effect. For example, at the end of Britten's _The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra_ (aka Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell without the narration 😊), he calms the tumult of the fugue with a slow restatement of the opening theme.

    Hi! I just finished my A.P (Advanced placement- college level for high schoolers) music theory class over here in the U.S! My boyfriend recently began music fundamentals for college and he's been having a hard time. We both watched your video on simple vs. compound time a few minutes ago, and it was the best breakdown of the concept I've ever heard. You are absolutely excellent, you sound so friendly and intelligent! I can't wait to watch this video (and many others) and try to relearn the stuff that I didn't catch in that class. I just remembered y'all have a class online too!
    Thanks so much, please keep making music theory content!

    The way you present the ideas is so clear and immediately accessible, but also they make me genuinely feel like I can use them to good effect (very inspiring for an amateur like me)!

    Composing a melody that can later be played together in both augmentation and diminution takes quite a bit of craft. See, for example, the eighth fugue in Book 1 of the WTC by Bach or the fugal finale in Beethoven's Op. 110 Piano Sonata.

    From the title I thought the video would be about developing a theme or line of melody by augmenting or diminishing intervals.

    Hi Gareth,
    (Beginner here)
    At the end of the augmented variation; Is there a rule and/or stylistic reason, for notating a semibreve tied to a semibreve instead of a breve?

    • @fishoscine1220
      @fishoscine1220 Рік тому

      I'm guessing if it's not a stylistic choice. Then is there some rule about a note crossing the bar line? But, then wouldn't that indicate you'd need a measure in at least 8/4, which sounds awkward and maybe unnecessary. (I hope my thoughts make sense.)

    • @MusicMattersGB
      @MusicMattersGB  Рік тому

      If you need to cross a bar line you’ll need a tie.
