My involvement with the sport is quite funny (and long): I started skydiving because of BASE too (saw a few TV documentaries about it in 1998), at a time BASE was not even in the media. I remember seeing a guy jumping from a building (with a belly cam), that video got me completely hooked to BASE so I started looking for a skydive course. When I started skydiving I got so addicted that I completely forgot about BASE. In fact, after a few hundred skydives, with more experience and knowledge, I had already decided that the risk behind BASE was beyond what I was willing to accept for the thrill. When I had a little over 400 jumps a friend of mine me told me about the first BASE course in Brazil. I told him I was no longer interested but he convinced me to do it. I said I would only complete the course with him and go back to skydive. After the 5 successful jumps from a bridge (most intense experience I’ve had) I told the instructor exactly the same about my risk/ thrill evaluation and went back to skydiving. For the next hundreds of jumps I was trying to work on my freefly/ wingsuit skills but could never get a jump partner to train and evolve with. I finally got so frustrated with skydiving that I decided to start BASE jumping again as I believed it was something I could do on my own. I did a few BASE trips jumping from cliffs in Brazil and Europe wearing a tracking suit. I believe I had close to 800 jumps (400+ wingsuit jumps) when I did my first wing BASE from a cliff using my most in-tune suit (S-Bird). Nothing in my entire jumping career could even get close to that jump. Just the sensation of standing at the edge of cliff wearing a jumpsuit is something unbelievably powerful. I did a few more amazing trips including Norway and finally retired from BASE. I lost so many friends in this sport (including my instructor who died in our Norway trip) and all my closest friends had already stopped so I couldn’t see a reason to continue. Wingsuit BASE is possibly the most intense thing you can experience in your jump career (I still have dreams about it) but you have to accept everything that comes with it.
I am afraid of wingsuit base too. I really don't want to start it because I feel like I'm going to die because of it and I don't think it's worth the thrill. However one think that amazes me about the sport and I am trying to find out is how do you guys see a slope and say "alright I can fly that" or "if I jump that I am not going to pick enough speed and I will plummet to my death". Like is it by eye or do you do math and calculate everything?
@@ΣωτήρηςΙωάννου-μ7ν I am not a base jumper but have seen base jumpers use laser googles like they use in the army to mesure depth. That way thay can estimate if the jump is doable or not beforehand.
Yes! So many of my friends I Cliff jumped with have evolved to BASE jumping, so I just started skydiving a few weeks ago. It’s fun, it’s really fun, but it’s about what I expected it to be and it’s not quite the rush I’m going for. I want to be able to experience the rush of wingsuit BASE jumping before I die. I don’t want to do until I die, but what’s life if not at least tasting the best experience it has to offer and pushing that line a few times.
It's the very reason I started skydiving. 4 seasons of jumping, 500 WS skydives and then I started my BASE jumping progression. Looking to start BASE tracking this summer after I take the course through Brandon Mikesell. If you're smart you realize it's a long progression and to enjoy the journey not the destination. The truly talented WS BASE jumpers have all put in the work, and it's often overlooked how long ago they stated their progression. Patience is key from my experience so far. I've learned so much, and met such amazing people along they way.
I wasn't even relaxed and in control the whole time during my first flight course. It wasn't until jump 6 that I started feeling comfortable and felt VERY eager and ready to go back up for more. This is absolutely living life to the fullest, which comes after A LOT of hard work and overcoming fear. Sitting around, wishing you could do this is absolutely crazy to me.
Exactly the reason I became a Skydiver :) Since I watched my first Base Jumping video, my dream became to one day jump from a Mountain in Norway. I was recommended to have a minimum of 200 Wingsuit jumps before even thinking about that, so I started my AFF course last year and I'm about to get my A License as soon as this Coronacrap is over.
Well you're probably gonna die. BASE jumping is 50 times more dangerous than skydiving. About 1 in every 60 BASE jumpers die. Add a wing suit to that and very few survive. Most of the people in those videos are dead now...

At first no, but at about jump #5 yes it is currently my mission. I’m very VERY drawn to Wingsuits in general, and wingsuit BASE resonates with me deeply I feel extremely drawn to it and it calls to me. After I got my A license i was asked what I wanted to do. I said relative work with decent back flying skills after a solid belly foundation when asked why that my reply was “because I want to become one of the best Wingsuiters at this DZ I want to live it, I want breathe it. I want to fly.” Since I started I now have 40 jumps and moved into my vehicle to get my own gear and jump as much as I want. I would work full time and then show up at the DZ everyday getting on every load I could. 7 days a week I was busy between work and jumping all while living in my vehicle, every week was a hustle. I had(have) plans this summer to make no less then 20 skydives a week (conditions allowing). I want to get better every jump and not just rack up numbers. COVID-19 has put a stop to my summer plans but it’s now allowing me to buy a turn rig until we jump again. So far Iv dedicated everything I have into this sport and a few scary hiccups have happened along the way to simply say it’s going to be hard is an understatement but it’s my mission and being in the sky is where I belong no matter the trial/tribulations. BASE will happen for me one day and I will fly from a mountain top, for me there is no going back and not getting to that point. I have no intent of doing things beyond my skill and things I’m not ready for, but I’m also not ever going to give up and will do whatever it takes...even if that means I have the title “homeless man with a parachute”
I have to say guilty on this but I am 58, been out of the sport for 22 years, have C license and now 387 jumps. Just bought and received my new gear and would love to BASE jump the Eiger and wingsuit. Those are my goals but I also understand all the many jumps and years experience ahead of me and I may never get there but will truly enjoy being back in the skies once again. The UA-cam videos are enticing but I also understand the realities and the many “highly experienced” wingsuit base jumpers who are now a number on the BFL. If it can happen to those who were experts, it can easily happen to someone not so expert as well so be ready and prepared before. My wife is scared of my jumping but it is me and I missed it for many years and I feel I have awoke from my sleep. Blue skies and stay safe while we all fight a new danger!
Google LTBJ skydive the Eiger experience... Chris 'Douggs' McDougall who runs Learn To Base Jump, has started a twice yearly course where he takes wingsuit skydivers, with skydiving rigs, up in a helicopter, and let's them windsuit skydive next to the Eiger...much safer option for a similar experience..
Cody Richardson when the time comes for me to do this, Douggs’ LTBJ will be a step in my progression for sure before making the BASE jumps. I think that is a great program from what I have seen. I was always wanting to BASE jump from Angel Falls until I saw UA-cam videos jumping from the Mushroom so I changed my bucket list item to the Eiger. I hate snakes and other things which are in Venezuela and I actually have been to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen valley on a tour while I was stationed with the US Air Force in Germany but never thought about jumping the Eiger until recently thanks of the many UA-cam videos. And I would never take on such a challenge without having the proper training, equipment and years of fresh experience prior to doing something like this.
Got to say thanks Catherine for the dedication of keeping the channel fresh and relevant. I like the many subjects and enjoy watching each one. When I decided to return to the sport, UA-cam was not in the past when I began so what an awesome tool to get information and experiences out to each other as well as continuing to push home the subject of safety. Without behaving safely we end up damaging the sport we all love to participate in. To all, stay safe out there, we are facing such a greater danger than we have ever faced.

It was not mentioned in this video the importance of focusing on tracking skills in skydiving and doing many tracking jumps in a tracking suit from a plane! this is a very important preparation for understanding how a wingsuit is flying! this was my path, and I was able to jump a wingsuit much faster and in a safe way. and yeah, I did also several ws base jumps and after that I quit. Base is not a joke and s**t can happen very fast!
Haha love your videos Catherine, the other canopy flight video helped me so much during my last 2 AFF jumps and I landed flawlessly and did some Practice manoeuvres you showed too. It was very accurate :). Anyways 10 years ago I wanted to get into wingsuit base and was afraid of skydiving 😂 Even had a project around it called “From 0 to wingsuitflyer” I had some people and brands that where about to back me. But they all said they couldn’t as the risk was so high. Anyways , 10 years later I did my first tandem and 2 weeks after that I’m in AFF training :). Note that I was also still very young back then. But what a life it is once you get the taste of it. 🖤
I bought a cheap canopy from Ebay, watched many video's and did my first BASE jump for the 80th floor of a building. All good no prob's and doing another in a few weeks.
Oh boy. I don't recommend that. Usually it takes 200-300 good skydives and a full blown base jumping course before doing it safely. If this is real, you may be fatally injured. Don't do it "again"...

Not a road I'm at all interested in, but great information to pass along. I believe that the amount of work required to achieve that level would deter most want-to-be's but we may gain more enthusiasts to traditional skydiving along the way. Thanks for the information!

thought for a long time about wingsuit base, but everyone i followed (without exception) died in this sport, so I am out. That said, I am an active Speedflying pilot (which is probably the second most dangerous sport) and want to learn skydiving/wingsuiting soon, hope the progression is fast. Pretty sure to fly proxy with clouds is enough thrill for my lifetime, for ground proxy I have my "slow" 85kph wing
I'm 16 and i've just finished my AFF, my goal is to start BASE at 18, but as soon I said it, everyone said forget it. It was very delusional, I thought that the two communuity were together, but i saw that a lot of people hate base jumpers for actually no reason.
I don't think it is because they hate them. It is just different and when you get experience as a skydiver you better understand the risks of base jumping. But it is doable, simply give you the time and experience!!
Simon don t think like you think. I started skydiving since i had my 17 years old. I m now 20 and started base jumping. But not because i get my 18 19 or 20 years old. Just because i felt like i was ready. Man you don t have a cypres or vigil to save your life in base jumping😉 So please start when you feel that you re ready to... i was ready afther 300 jumps but i made 650 jumps to start it. And i m really happy to have started only now... Take it like you wan t but stay safe. Blue sky

Be careful getting into BASE jumping at 18- to early 20s is gonna be wild af cause when were this young we think we’re invincible and are savage af lol especially if you run with young guys around your age. I am happy I’ll be in the military for those years before getting into base lol

I saw a lot Indian guys on Russian drop zones. There is straight flight to Moscow from Delhi. There you have several big DZ around. You also have nice DZ in Thailand, but Russia will be cheaper, faster and better option.

You are right I never done it, but I can gather the information and I have base jumping coaches to refer to when I look for information. You'll also notice that the information in this video is pure logic and basic info that any experience skydiver is aware off. Those are the steps to learn more and find the coaches needed. And the goal is to give a clearer picture to people not in the sport yet who wants to one day get to that point. What about you? Any experience base jumping?

HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL WING SUIT GLIDER PILOT IN MY BEST OPINION: If you are going to do this everything has to be just right. First make sure to wear your best clean underwear. Just in case you are brought to a hospital. Next is the suit. Make sure it is the correct model for your weight and gender. Eat lite that morning. Heavy food will affect your glide. Next, pack your chute yourself. Make sure to use the correct tallow on the chute cords so friction is reduced. Friction builds heat. Heat can melt the cord ends from the canopy. Make sure every chord is attached properly to the canopy. The chute itself should be properly sewn. The seams must run along the bias. Of course, all these things must be securely affixed to the pack. The pack straps must be strong but not made of metal. Knitted Nylon straps with plastic buckles are best. Make sure all 32 buckles are fastened before you jump. Then we must consider the wing suit. Do not make this yourself. Get a proper wing suit from a professional maker that uses their product themselves. Buy the optional wrist altimeter and ankle airspeed indicator. If you jump in winter you may want a heated pitot model. Also, deicing equipment might be considered for your wing leading edges. In fact, buy a second hand wing suit if you can because that way it has been tested. However, do not buy a used wing suit from a fat man or a fat woman because they may have overstressed it during their jumps. The suit should be crisp and starched to help support your arms. Most jumpers do not flap their arms but flapping is permissible in an emergency or to extend your flight. I am getting ahead of myself because there is much more prep needed before you jump. Wear gliding boots. If you do not know about gliding boots then you must not be in this sport. Do not use 'cheap' gliding boots. Buy the most expensive pair that you can afford. Now make sure your gliding wing suit has the aerodynamic lifting vanes from the collar to the wing edges. 12 vanes are preferred but more might be appropriate. Smear fresh butter inside each vane on every surface of each cavity. Use your fingers to avoid missing any spots, also to avoid snags. Now check the nylon rods. Each rod must be completely embedded into it's channel and stiched up tight! Count to be sure that you have 13 rods in each wing. 26 rods in total. If you weigh more than 183 pounds add 2 extra rods to each wing. That is, have a professional add them. Make sure that all stitching is adequate and not fraid. Your pants, shirt and socks should be made of fine silk. Silk slides through the air best. Silk is slick. Find a cliff base at least 1,000 meters in height. Make sure that the drop off has sides of rock or soil that is well tucked back, not less than 85 degrees to the launch point. Have someone you trust help you dress and suit up. Once you are dressed make sure to use the facilities before donning your gliding suit. Unlike a bird you will not be able to poop while flying. Now put on your suit and check and recheck every buckel. Adjust your straps tight but not so tight as to hinder your arms. Wave your arms up and down creating claps above your head to test your free arm movement. Put on your gliding gloves after lacing up your gliding boots. Wax your face with cannuba wax. Use the good kind from AutoZone. Hopefully you were well groomed before suiting up. Hopefully you remembered to use a deodorant. Now put on your helmet and make sure your goggles are clean. Now walk to the jump spot. Someone can begin filming now. It is best to walk little baby steps up to the edge. Control your fear. The worse thing you can imagine seldom happens, so don't think about that. Once you jump build up velocity until you reach the best flying speed. It is important to maintain your flying speed lest the ground arise and smite thee! Check that your rip chord is where it is supposed to be. They are called rip chords because if they fail you will "Rest In Peace". The rip chord handle should be signal orange for easy spotting during flight. Once you jump go head-first, straight down. Do NOT swan dive. The initial acceleration will be mind boggling. Terminal velocity will come quickly and you will soon be going well over 247 miles per hour. Now (this is most important) you must swoop. Swoop up hard as you can! Yes, the 'G' force will seem incredible but you must swoop up asap. Now extend your wings. Concentrate first on straight and level flight. Watch your wrist altimeter to make sure you do not fly below 300 feet above ground level. Use your ankle supported airspeed pitot system to maintain flying speed. Do not slow below 100 mph or equivalent kph. If you get too slow or too low you must open your chute without hesitation. Once your airspeed and altitude bleed down swoop up into a climb. Just before you stall pull your rip chord. Now look for a suitable landing area. Pick a spot near a concession area so you might refresh yourself before your crew arrives to take you home. If you are gentle with your suit and equipment you might easily get 43 jumps out of it minus however many jumps were made by others in it before you acquired it. Do not exceed 43 jumps total or the suit may fail. It will prove fatal if the suit fails. Also, use fresh underwear for each successful jump. For unsuccessful jumps it will not matter.
I disagree with the way we should treat new people in the sport, wanting to do BASE from day one. If I go to my skydiving friends, as a skydiver or as a non skydiver, I want them to talk me out of BASE, not encourage me. There is a reason some instructors require you to have your testimony ready and have a talk with your loved ones that there’s a good chance you won’t be around in the nearer future... People who really want to do BASE should listen to all of what we’re saying to them and then do it anyways cause they are THAT MUCH into that. Everyone else should not even think about doing this. Especially Wingsuit BASE which, looking at the fatality List, shouldn’t be advertised to god damn students (or everyone for that matter)... Don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with people doing BASE. And I love the Videos of josh nicholls (who died doing it). I just think it’s not good suggesting to people it’s a good idea. Especially people who don’t even know what they are talking about.
I understand your point of view. But most people who will start for that goal will realise the complexity as they progress. Many won't pursue it but will find a great sport into skydiving. If we laugh at them and discourage them they might not even become a skydiver in the first place. That was my thoughts about that.
I've been treated poorly by sky gods that seem to look for opportunities to put down fun jumpers when they do or say something that manifests lack of experience. There are bullies everywhere. Discouraging someone is bias to their potential, which is owned by the individual you're bringing down to your pathetic level. And it's a very poor representation to fun jumpers and professionals, and the DZOs that are trying to spread the wealth and make their own living, without getting people hurt and killed. At wingsuit flying level, I look for opportunities to guide lesser experienced Skydivers and non Skydivers, and be sure to express how the challenge hindered or hinders me, so that Skydiver doesn't feel like they have expectations to meet, and can relax and focus on going to battle with themselves. Wingsuit BASE is no secret to anyone. To avoid advertising it is oppressive to both people that are trying to sell it, and their market. I want to know where I can go to learn, that has the best instructors in the business, with the highest customer satisfaction rating. Life is a business and a gamble, if you want to reach this specific goal eventually. Very arrogant point of view, sir. You have a lot to learn.

Just that it should not be advertised to people who don’t even know the actual differences between skydiving and BASE like there is none. Making this about the Market behind it is absolutely disgusting in my opinion. Profit should be the last thing BASE should be about. And if that’s even one of your (or anyones) motivations when you try to get students and non skydivers into it... i have no words for the disgust i would have... There’s a difference if someone with hundreds of jumps and recommendations not to do it decides to do it, approaches me and asks about the community and the best instructors or someone who just did their 200th jump, being talked into doing it by people wanting to make some money. You really want the basejumper site to edit their note from "we do not recommend BASE jumping to anybody" to "just do it. Life is a business and a gamble. Yes! So many of my friends I Cliff jumped with have evolved to BASE jumping, so I just started skydiving a few weeks ago. It’s fun, it’s really fun, but it’s about what I expected it to be and it’s not quite the rush I’m going for. I want to be able to experience the rush of wingsuit BASE jumping before I die. I don’t want to do until I die, but what’s life if not at least tasting the best experience it has to offer and pushing that line a few times.

It's the very reason I started skydiving. 4 seasons of jumping, 500 WS skydives and then I started my BASE jumping progression. Looking to start BASE tracking this summer after I take the course through Brandon Mikesell. If you're smart you realize it's a long progression and to enjoy the journey not the destination. The truly talented WS BASE jumpers have all put in the work, and it's often overlooked how long ago they stated their progression. Patience is key from my experience so far. I've learned so much, and met such amazing people along they way.

I wasn't even relaxed and in control the whole time during my first flight course. It wasn't until jump 6 that I started feeling comfortable and felt VERY eager and ready to go back up for more. This is absolutely living life to the fullest, which comes after A LOT of hard work and overcoming fear. Sitting around, wishing you could do this is absolutely crazy to me.

Since I watched my first Base Jumping video, my dream became to one day jump from a Mountain in Norway. I was recommended to have a minimum of 200 Wingsuit jumps before even thinking about that, so I started my AFF course last year and I'm about to get my A License as soon as this Coronacrap is over.
Well you're probably gonna die. BASE jumping is 50 times more dangerous than skydiving. About 1 in every 60 BASE jumpers die. Add a wing suit to that and very few survive. Most of the people in those videos are dead now...

At first no, but at about jump #5 yes it is currently my mission. I’m very VERY drawn to Wingsuits in general, and wingsuit BASE resonates with me deeply I feel extremely drawn to it and it calls to me. After I got my A license i was asked what I wanted to do. I said relative work with decent back flying skills after a solid belly foundation when asked why that my reply was “because I want to become one of the best Wingsuiters at this DZ I want to live it, I want breathe it. I want to fly.” Since I started I now have 40 jumps and moved into my vehicle to get my own gear and jump as much as I want. I would work full time and then show up at the DZ everyday getting on every load I could. 7 days a week I was busy between work and jumping all while living in my vehicle, every week was a hustle. I had(have) plans this summer to make no less then 20 skydives a week (conditions allowing). I want to get better every jump and not just rack up numbers. COVID-19 has put a stop to my summer plans but it’s now allowing me to buy a turn rig until we jump again. So far Iv dedicated everything I have into this sport and a few scary hiccups have happened along the way to simply say it’s going to be hard is an understatement but it’s my mission and being in the sky is where I belong no matter the trial/tribulations. BASE will happen for me one day and I will fly from a mountain top, for me there is no going back and not getting to that point. I have no intent of doing things beyond my skill and things I’m not ready for, but I’m also not ever going to give up and will do whatever it takes...even if that means I have the title “homeless man with a parachute”

I have to say guilty on this but I am 58, been out of the sport for 22 years, have C license and now 387 jumps. Just bought and received my new gear and would love to BASE jump the Eiger and wingsuit. Those are my goals but I also understand all the many jumps and years experience ahead of me and I may never get there but will truly enjoy being back in the skies once again. The UA-cam videos are enticing but I also understand the realities and the many “highly experienced” wingsuit base jumpers who are now a number on the BFL. If it can happen to those who were experts, it can easily happen to someone not so expert as well so be ready and prepared before. My wife is scared of my jumping but it is me and I missed it for many years and I feel I have awoke from my sleep. Blue skies and stay safe while we all fight a new danger!
Also, as I come back each time from jumping safely, my wife gets a little more less scared!

Chris 'Douggs' McDougall who runs Learn To Base Jump, has started a twice yearly course where he takes wingsuit skydivers, with skydiving rigs, up in a helicopter, and let's them windsuit skydive next to the Eiger...much safer option for a similar experience..
Cody Richardson when the time comes for me to do this, Douggs’ LTBJ will be a step in my progression for sure before making the BASE jumps. I think that is a great program from what I have seen. I was always wanting to BASE jump from Angel Falls until I saw UA-cam videos jumping from the Mushroom so I changed my bucket list item to the Eiger. I hate snakes and other things which are in Venezuela and I actually have been to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen valley on a tour while I was stationed with the US Air Force in Germany but never thought about jumping the Eiger until recently thanks of the many UA-cam videos. And I would never take on such a challenge without having the proper training, equipment and years of fresh experience prior to doing something like this.
Got to say thanks Catherine for the dedication of keeping the channel fresh and relevant. I like the many subjects and enjoy watching each one. When I decided to return to the sport, UA-cam was not in the past when I began so what an awesome tool to get information and experiences out to each other as well as continuing to push home the subject of safety. Without behaving safely we end up damaging the sport we all love to participate in. To all, stay safe out there, we are facing such a greater danger than we have ever faced.

It was not mentioned in this video the importance of focusing on tracking skills in skydiving and doing many tracking jumps in a tracking suit from a plane! this is a very important preparation for understanding how a wingsuit is flying! this was my path, and I was able to jump a wingsuit much faster and in a safe way. and yeah, I did also several ws base jumps and after that I quit. Base is not a joke and s**t can happen very fast!

Anyways 10 years ago I wanted to get into wingsuit base and was afraid of skydiving 😂 Even had a project around it called “From 0 to wingsuitflyer” I had some people and brands that where about to back me. But they all said they couldn’t as the risk was so high. Anyways , 10 years later I did my first tandem and 2 weeks after that I’m in AFF training :). Note that I was also still very young back then. But what a life it is once you get the taste of it. 🖤
I bought a cheap canopy from Ebay, watched many video's and did my first BASE jump for the 80th floor of a building. All good no prob's and doing another in a few weeks.
Oh boy. I don't recommend that. Usually it takes 200-300 good skydives and a full blown base jumping course before doing it safely. If this is real, you may be fatally injured. Don't do it "again"...

Not a road I'm at all interested in, but great information to pass along. I believe that the amount of work required to achieve that level would deter most want-to-be's but we may gain more enthusiasts to traditional skydiving along the way.

thought for a long time about wingsuit base, but everyone i followed (without exception) died in this sport, so I am out. That said, I am an active Speedflying pilot (which is probably the second most dangerous sport) and want to learn skydiving/wingsuiting soon, hope the progression is fast. Pretty sure to fly proxy with clouds is enough thrill for my lifetime, for ground proxy I have my "slow" 85kph wing

Im started my skydive Lizenz with 31....with 35 my firts wingsuit fly.
I'm 16 and i've just finished my AFF, my goal is to start BASE at 18, but as soon I said it, everyone said forget it.
It was very delusional, I thought that the two communuity were together, but i saw that a lot of people hate base jumpers for actually no reason.
I don't think it is because they hate them. It is just different and when you get experience as a skydiver you better understand the risks of base jumping. But it is doable, simply give you the time and experience!!
Simon don t think like you think. I started skydiving since i had my 17 years old. I m now 20 and started base jumping. But not because i get my 18 19 or 20 years old. Just because i felt like i was ready. Man you don t have a cypres or vigil to save your life in base jumping😉 So please start when you feel that you re ready to... i was ready afther 300 jumps but i made 650 jumps to start it. And i m really happy to have started only now... Take it like you wan t but stay safe. Blue sky

Be careful getting into BASE jumping at 18- to early 20s is gonna be wild af cause when were this young we think we’re invincible and are savage af lol especially if you run with young guys around your age. I am happy I’ll be in the military for those years before getting into base lol

I saw a lot Indian guys on Russian drop zones. There is straight flight to Moscow from Delhi. There you have several big DZ around. You also have nice DZ in Thailand, but Russia will be cheaper, faster and better option.

I did but I wanted to focus on how it can be possible cause it is! But the number of "experience" needed is very high to make people understand that it is not an easy ride.
You can fly into things, including the ground, and be seriously injured and killed.

You are right I never done it, but I can gather the information and I have base jumping coaches to refer to when I look for information. You'll also notice that the information in this video is pure logic and basic info that any experience skydiver is aware off. Those are the steps to learn more and find the coaches needed. And the goal is to give a clearer picture to people not in the sport yet who wants to one day get to that point.

HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL WING SUIT GLIDER PILOT IN MY BEST OPINION: If you are going to do this everything has to be just right. First make sure to wear your best clean underwear. Just in case you are brought to a hospital. Next is the suit. Make sure it is the correct model for your weight and gender. Eat lite that morning. Heavy food will affect your glide. Next, pack your chute yourself. Make sure to use the correct tallow on the chute cords so friction is reduced. Friction builds heat. Heat can melt the cord ends from the canopy. Make sure every chord is attached properly to the canopy. The chute itself should be properly sewn. The seams must run along the bias. Of course, all these things must be securely affixed to the pack. The pack straps must be strong but not made of metal. Knitted Nylon straps with plastic buckles are best. Make sure all 32 buckles are fastened before you jump. Then we must consider the wing suit. Do not make this yourself. Get a proper wing suit from a professional maker that uses their product themselves. Buy the optional wrist altimeter and ankle airspeed indicator. If you jump in winter you may want a heated pitot model. Also, deicing equipment might be considered for your wing leading edges. In fact, buy a second hand wing suit if you can because that way it has been tested. However, do not buy a used wing suit from a fat man or a fat woman because they may have overstressed it during their jumps. The suit should be crisp and starched to help support your arms. Most jumpers do not flap their arms but flapping is permissible in an emergency or to extend your flight. I am getting ahead of myself because there is much more prep needed before you jump. Wear gliding boots. If you do not know about gliding boots then you must not be in this sport. Do not use 'cheap' gliding boots. Buy the most expensive pair that you can afford. Now make sure your gliding wing suit has the aerodynamic lifting vanes from the collar to the wing edges. 12 vanes are preferred but more might be appropriate. Smear fresh butter inside each vane on every surface of each cavity. Use your fingers to avoid missing any spots, also to avoid snags. Now check the nylon rods. Each rod must be completely embedded into it's channel and stiched up tight! Count to be sure that you have 13 rods in each wing. 26 rods in total. If you weigh more than 183 pounds add 2 extra rods to each wing. That is, have a professional add them. Make sure that all stitching is adequate and not fraid. Your pants, shirt and socks should be made of fine silk. Silk slides through the air best. Silk is slick. Find a cliff base at least 1,000 meters in height. Make sure that the drop off has sides of rock or soil that is well tucked back, not less than 85 degrees to the launch point. Have someone you trust help you dress and suit up. Once you are dressed make sure to use the facilities before donning your gliding suit. Unlike a bird you will not be able to poop while flying. Now put on your suit and check and recheck every buckel. Adjust your straps tight but not so tight as to hinder your arms. Wave your arms up and down creating claps above your head to test your free arm movement. Put on your gliding gloves after lacing up your gliding boots. Wax your face with cannuba wax. Use the good kind from AutoZone. Hopefully you were well groomed before suiting up. Hopefully you remembered to use a deodorant. Now put on your helmet and make sure your goggles are clean. Now walk to the jump spot. Someone can begin filming now. It is best to walk little baby steps up to the edge. Control your fear. The worse thing you can imagine seldom happens, so don't think about that. Once you jump build up velocity until you reach the best flying speed. It is important to maintain your flying speed lest the ground arise and smite thee! Check that your rip chord is where it is supposed to be. They are called rip chords because if they fail you will "Rest In Peace". The rip chord handle should be signal orange for easy spotting during flight. Once you jump go head-first, straight down. Do NOT swan dive. The initial acceleration will be mind boggling. Terminal velocity will come quickly and you will soon be going well over 247 miles per hour. Now (this is most important) you must swoop. Swoop up hard as you can! Yes, the 'G' force will seem incredible but you must swoop up asap. Now extend your wings. Concentrate first on straight and level flight. Watch your wrist altimeter to make sure you do not fly below 300 feet above ground level. Use your ankle supported airspeed pitot system to maintain flying speed. Do not slow below 100 mph or equivalent kph. If you get too slow or too low you must open your chute without hesitation. Once your airspeed and altitude bleed down swoop up into a climb. Just before you stall pull your rip chord. Now look for a suitable landing area. Pick a spot near a concession area so you might refresh yourself before your crew arrives to take you home. If you are gentle with your suit and equipment you might easily get 43 jumps out of it minus however many jumps were made by others in it before you acquired it. Do not exceed 43 jumps total or the suit may fail. It will prove fatal if the suit fails. Also, use fresh underwear for each successful jump. For unsuccessful jumps it will not matter.
I disagree with the way we should treat new people in the sport, wanting to do BASE from day one.
If I go to my skydiving friends, as a skydiver or as a non skydiver, I want them to talk me out of BASE, not encourage me.
There is a reason some instructors require you to have your testimony ready and have a talk with your loved ones that there’s a good chance you won’t be around in the nearer future...
People who really want to do BASE should listen to all of what we’re saying to them and then do it anyways cause they are THAT MUCH into that. Everyone else should not even think about doing this.
Especially Wingsuit BASE which, looking at the fatality List, shouldn’t be advertised to god damn students (or everyone for that matter)...
Don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with people doing BASE. And I love the Videos of josh nicholls (who died doing it).
I just think it’s not good suggesting to people it’s a good idea. Especially people who don’t even know what they are talking about.
I understand your point of view. But most people who will start for that goal will realise the complexity as they progress. Many won't pursue it but will find a great sport into skydiving. If we laugh at them and discourage them they might not even become a skydiver in the first place. That was my thoughts about that.
I've been treated poorly by sky gods that seem to look for opportunities to put down fun jumpers when they do or say something that manifests lack of experience. There are bullies everywhere. Discouraging someone is bias to their potential, which is owned by the individual you're bringing down to your pathetic level. And it's a very poor representation to fun jumpers and professionals, and the DZOs that are trying to spread the wealth and make their own living, without getting people hurt and killed. At wingsuit flying level, I look for opportunities to guide lesser experienced Skydivers and non Skydivers, and be sure to express how the challenge hindered or hinders me, so that Skydiver doesn't feel like they have expectations to meet, and can relax and focus on going to battle with themselves.
Wingsuit BASE is no secret to anyone. To avoid advertising it is oppressive to both people that are trying to sell it, and their market. I want to know where I can go to learn, that has the best instructors in the business, with the highest customer satisfaction rating. Life is a business and a gamble, if you want to reach this specific goal eventually.

I’m not saying it’s a secret or that it should be. Just that it should not be advertised to people who don’t even know the actual differences between skydiving and BASE like there is none.
Making this about the Market behind it is absolutely disgusting in my opinion. Profit should be the last thing BASE should be about. And if that’s even one of your (or anyones) motivations when you try to get students and non skydivers into it... i have no words for the disgust i would have...
There’s a difference if someone with hundreds of jumps and recommendations not to do it decides to do it, approaches me and asks about the community and the best instructors or someone who just did their 200th jump, being talked into doing it by people wanting to make some money.
