As far as being the victim the Ukrainians and nato were trying to surround the Russians with nato bases and equipment, making it impossible for the Russians to have any security; Russia to protect itself had no choice but to fight or they would be surrounded all across it borders with tactical nuclear devices controlled by the USA and nato, if you tried doing this against the USA they would threaten WW3.

For over a year now the USA has been saying Russia is out of missiles, drones, tanks, shells, and troops. Russia has run out of none of those and still holds ground and advances. NATO has continued to send troops, weapons, and huge amounts of money to Ukraine and yet the kiev Fascist regime is the one failing and pulling NATO down with it.
Russia has total air superiority and a 25-1 artillery advantage. Russia is putting out 40-60k artillery munitions every day which is daily more than USA dropped in the entire Iraq war. Casualty proportions for Russia and Ukraine will be similar to those of recent US wars. Russia has overwhelming superiority in firepower and, like the US, the principle strategy is to hammer the enemy into submission while minimising friendly casualties. There were some significant Russian losses in the initial failed occupation attempt but since then they have held fairly consistently to the firepower strategy.

In any case, whatever the Russian casualties are, in a war of attrition, it is the ration between Russian and Ukrainian that is important. All the evidence suggests that this is in Russia's favour as even the Discord Leaks tell, albeit there are claims those figures have been doctored. Nonetheless, BBC Russia has done an analysis which stated up to early February the total dead was 14,700 which they then doubled to 29K to make up for those they missed. Then without any evidence stated 133,000 to conform to Kiev's claims. Colonel Macgregor did a study of Ukrainian losses using the same methodology as the BBC and found 122,000 Ukrainian dead and 35K captured. Ursla von der Leyen confirmed 100K Ukrainian dead in November last year in a tweet which was quickly removed and General Zalushnyi in his Economist article in December 2022 that he had 192,000 combat troops and 500K others in uniform. As he had claimed 1 million man in uniform in summer last year that suggests he has lost 300K dead and wounded, thus validating both von der Leyen and Macgregor. At the end of the day, the evidence is such that unsubstanitated claims such as the US has made are at best questionable and at worst outright lies. I guess we won't know until it is all over or one or the other of the armies collapses.
The US says 20,000 Russian soldiers estimated killed. The 100,000 is total number who has been injured and killed. Most injured soldiers are temporary not participating in the war.

Ukrainian casualties is according to Scott Ritter & Douglas MacGregor very high, they believe several hundred thousand dead and addition four hundred thousand injured. We will get a much better estimate when the war is over. The war might take a few more months or a few more years as estimated by General Sir Richard Shirreff earlier today in a Times Radio interview. General Sir Richard Shirreff said there will not be peace in Europe if Putin is in office, so basically, he thinks there will be a WW3.

Started on Russian side with something like around 120,000 troops, before mobilization of 300,000 to include a sufficient force reckoned to also be able to repulse direct nato intervention.

So lets get this right. Basically the entire western world is/has been supplying Ukraine with military hardware and huge amounts of cash. Ukraine started with 600000 plus soldiers and is now just grabbing teen age boys off the street and throwing on the front line. Yet here you have Russia that has been hit with the hardest sanctions ever placed on a country yet its somehow still managed to keep moving forward and now holds 25% of Ukraine. Id say if anything considering all the resources that the EU and USA have put in that the outcome is pretty pathetic *go Russia*
It's worse than that. Russia is putting out 40-60k artillery munitions every day. That's daily more than the USA put out in the entire Iraq war and they have been doing this for 14 months. They have a robust surge production chain which is something the ENTIRE west combined can't compete with. China actually laughed at America because of this, they said if the USA can't out produce Russia how are they going to out produce China? You can bet that right now China is mass producing Russian air defense systems and anti ship missiles. It's going to be interesting when USA tries to start a proxy war with Taiwan and China.. I think the US navy is going to suffer.
