- Get your notebook and pen ready, because here I have 30 recommendations of great books I have enjoyed, crossing all types and genres: fiction, nonfiction, memoir, all genres, middle-grade, YA.
What do all of these different books have in common? They all feature a character with a disability or are written by an author with a disability.
This makes them perfect for the Spoonie Readathon in May, hosted by @novellenovels and @BrewsandReviews

Hi Sue thanks so much for this list of books.
I like your shirt Sue. I'm looking foward to your announcement for Big Book Summer.
Thanks! Another new one :) I'm recording the BBS video today and will have it posted early tomorrow morning! I;ve got my Big Book stack ready!
Love this! I haven't read most of these. I am adding Challenger Deep, The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, Fish in a Tree, The Reading List, The Story of Beautiful Girl, and The Sound of a Wild Snail to my TBR 😊
Wow - so glad you were intrigued by so many! The ones you named are all excellent!
I loved The Story of Beautiful Girl and The Reading List! I hope you like them too! ❤📚❤️
Plenty there for people to choose from. Happy reading to you.
Thanks!
I'm surprised I haven't heard of Challenger Deep - definitely need to read that. So many fab recommendations!
That is such a powerful novel. I should have mentioned that it is not only based on Neal Schusterman's son's own experiences, but his son did the drawings in the book that were taken from his own drawings during the onset of schizophrenia and clearly show his decline and changing mental state. I was listening to the audio but got the print book from the library so I could see the drawings, too!
Thanks so much for this. I will be looking for some of these books 😊
Great! Glad you saw some that appealed to you here :) Thanks for hosting the readathon and giving me the chance to do this!
Hii Sue! I heard great things about Sitting Pretty by Rebekah Taussig, it is a memoir.
Thank you so much for these recommendations, i added most of them to by TBR :) always enjoy your content
Thanks for the kind words, Sabrina, and for the book rec! I hadn't heard about that one yet :)
Thank you for compiling this list! I have a recommendation to share with you - A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. It's a middle grade own-voices novel with absolutely wonderful autism representation.
Oh, that sounds wonderful! I hadn't heard of it before, so thank you!
@@SueJacksonDE You're welcome.
I listened to A Corner of the Universe several years ago and it was really awesome. I didn't understand what was going on and thought the adults were so hard on the guy, at least at first.
Sounds like a good one - thanks!
Mary Queen of Scots by Antonia Frasier
Wow - was Mary disabled or the author? Thanks for the rec!
@@SueJacksonDE no just a big book summer read
Great list! So glad you did this!
Thanks, Michele! Once I got started, I got a little carried away with my list - ha ha
