I use an old airflo outlander tech vest and I love it. I know they aren’t super cool but when I’m carrying fishing gear and camera equipment I want the weight to be distributed and as you said it’s great having everything you need up front and easily accessible. Great video!
I’m with you! I’ve tried them all looking for “the” system and after much trial and error, a well thought out and organized vest cannot be beat. Fishpond makes a great vest that I’ve been tinkering with but I think the simms guide is my next go to because of the amount of storage and organization it offers. Buy once cry once!
For anyone new to fly fishing, I recommend a vest over a sling pack or chest pack. Just like he stated, a chest pack is very intrusive and when you’re casting or reeling in a fish it gets in the way. The same with a hip pack as well as a sling pack even though it’s on your back you have to swing it around you and with a vest you don’t due to everything being comfortably in front of you. That’s why I use a vest for river/creek or pond fishing because a sling, chest, hip pack gets uncomfortable real quick. And I use my waterproof sling pack for lakes. Plus when you try to insert the net back into the net sleeve on a pack it’s difficult to successfully insert it back you have to swing again the pack to your front and it’s a nuisance. So I highly highly recommend a vest that’s light and not bulky. Just like Orvis makes or the Orvis ultralight vest which is my go to 👍
Great rundown of the gear! I've been following you guys for a while now. I just sent you an email from your "About" page on UA-cam. Hope to hear back from you guys. Tight lines!
My orvis guide vest is 25 plus years old and still working. How's about a even trade back then I could afford it now no way .how many pockets are on the back?
That does sound like a sweet deal and all... haha. There are two large pockets on the back. One zippered dump pocket and another threw pocket that can be accessed on either side.
Could u drop me some info on size? I have to order online. What's your height and size is that? Great review sir. Avidmax is my go-to everytime I order anything fly related from tying materials to on the water "successories"
Successories, I love it! Thanks for your support. The vest comes in 4 sizes. Sizes M(38-40), L(42-44), XL(46-48), XXL(50-52). I am 6' 2" and wear the XL.

Go for it!

@@AvidMax thank you
What kind of water filter is that? I like how compact it is
It is the Katadyn BeFree. Game changer!

I use the fishpond vest and its been a game changer for sure. I just wish there was an easier way to hold a water bottle.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Water is a tough one...
My dilemma also! I’m in New Mexico and that dry heat definitely requires h2o hydration!

Thank you very much!
I’ll stick to my 40$ Amazon vest…..
Chances are it is a US designed product that is being ripped off and back doored out the factory in China to US consumers.
Lol i wear this every day and i dont fish.
What do you use it for?
@@AvidMax holding my phone, wallet, two sets of keys, headphones, and other stuff I need on the day to day.
