TMac was better at every skill in the game check the stats and he made teams which would have been bottom tier into playoff teams. Leonard is not comparable to TMac as a player. There are always a few Leonard level forwards in the league. TMac is a pantheon perimeter player. Since the early 90s, it goes: Jordan, Bryant, TMac, LeBron, Wade, Edwards, in that chronological order. That is the top tier and lineage. Leonard is not at that level and he was a role player for the Spurs title in his 3rd season, a defensive specialist who could rebound for his position due to his strength and convert easy opportunities generated by the Spurs' system.

someone needs to tell me how him sitting on the bench is somehow worse for the team then him retiring, his money stays on the cap hit even if he retires, so he cannot be replaced with another max player or anything like that - the ONLY person who benefits if he retires, is balmers pocketbook and i highly doubt balmer cares at all. so the real question is, are the clippers somehow better with kawhi sitting on the bench for half the games then they are if he sits behind the bench for all of the games?

In 2016-2017, Leonard played 74 games with the Spurs, in the seven years since, he has averaged 42 games per season, including missing all of 2021-22.
For his entire career, Leonard has played in 65% of his team's regular season games. (696 out of 1,066)
And because of the media's obsession with "rings" and "chips", he is going to be a hall of famer, regardless of how much the 2nd half of his career ruined the Clippers franchise In 2018-19, Leonard played 60 regular season games with the Raptors, but since Toronto won the title, him missing over 25% of the team's games is irrelevant and in fact, I have even seen it celebrated. The Raptors "load managed" Leonard until the playoffs and they were champs, so therefore, sitting Kawhi for 22 games was justified.

He’s not retiring, but the clippers need to trade him already, it’s been like 7 years of zero results, and he had every super team combo ,Westbrook and harden and pg and John wall and Lou will ,rondo ,Batum, ibaka,Jackson ,just start over with a young team and hope to be like the grizzlies or timberwolves

Smartest team in the league. San Antonio? When they traded him, they knew where he was. They knew that he was never gonna be anything. A problem😂

So I get it, if you're Kawhi, you sit on the bench and collect your check but what if any recourse do the Clippers have if he just can't play at all? At some point they're better off paying him to stay home and retire just to get the roster spot back if all he does is ride the bench. It's really sad though, he was one of my favorite players a decade ago.

The only way for Leonard to stay in the league now is to come off the bench for a Lakers or Mavericks where he is not a major option. But a contributor.

It’s really hard for anyone to run a scam when the world knows your history. TJ hit it - they paid him for the “hope” of him returning. They knew full well that he’s brittle - they CHOSE to pay him that money. They could’ve said no. He “should” retire but I honestly don’t think he cares about that.

He technically played almost 60% of the games over his entire career. It's not as bad as they make it sound... Yet, since he is such a great player people are mad he isn't playing. No one would care if this was Jordan Poole or someone that wasn't a two time Finals MVP. He should just retire and put everyone out of their misery.

Bottom line is Coach Pop was Kawhi Leonard's best kept secret by resting those dudes!! Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili ALL were load management players! I remember going to an 76ers game when Coach Pop send them back to San Antonio and played the bench player and beat the Sixers, Kawhi should go ahead and retire! The Brotha don't need to money! Kawhi isn't even spending his real paper, he's spending his endorsement deal checks

I mean Lonzo Ball is back. It's a degenerative knee disease. Through pain medication and proper post-game rehab he should be able to play. I think the problem behind the scenes is he doesn't want to be on pain meds. These athletes nowadays are soft. A little knee inflammation and they take months off mean while you have manual labor workers going out everyday with all sorts of aches & pains in-order to build society.

"he's stealing" the clippers signed the contract fully understanding hes going to miss a lot of games. For all we know they don't even want him to play until after the all-star break. "They could have had pg" pg been injured pretty much the same amount as kawhi and guess what? hes injured right now too. "He has to retire and give up 150 for the sake of his legacy" he's getting in to the hof regardless. His legacy of dominate greatness load management and perpetually being injured is already set in stone. How are these haters who didn't make 150 their whole careers with legacies that cant even compare to Kawhis time with the clippers going to say anything about when kawhi should retire?

Being the #1 offensive option on high efficiency and also a defensive stopper was the Jordan comparison. Not the overall skillset, averaging over 6 assists for the whole career and all the other notable Jordan aspects. He accomplished things that only Jordan accomplished as a 2 way player per sé.
