I took calligraphy in high school and unfortunately was terrible at it. My teacher however...was such a master! She could just sit down and write just like this man is doing and it was one of the most awe inspiring thing I have ever seen! She could write any style and is appeared flawless. And she was an alcoholic to boot! She brought gin in her thermos and would be half drunk, scribbling away in the most beautiful script effortlessly. Just amazing work.
ChevyDude65 sometimes alcoholics and drug addicts are some of the most talented and charismatic people you will ever meet! I tried to learn calligraphy and I was not very good at it either.
I'm still in secondary school and I got a calligraphy teacher and its amazing at the first I thought its hard to learn after two weeks I was writing like a pro and its all about hard working and how much ur intrested
I read this and got jealous my HS didn't have a calligraphy class. My art teacher was good but she never did calligraphy with us. Now I know why bc of this comment. Art and calligraphy as far as the way US does schooling are not in the same category. Disclaimer I would get BAKED before the class. BBQ'D to a crisp.
My favorite parts of this begin with the 2nd bit of calligraphy where you can so clearly see the artist's face. I like to do calligraphy, but I'm nowhere near the genius of that artist. However, I'm both an excellent sax player and computer programmer and I know moments when there's the rush of creating something beautiful. When I watched the face of the artist painting on the glass, I saw eyes seeing what was not there, then producing it. I experience that in my own field and there is a sense of joy. I wish I could feel that in the visual arts. Sadly, I'm condemned to watch the brilliance of others. Ok, it's not much to be condemned to since I have my own escapes. :-) But I do love to see an artist of any kind in his or her groove.
It certainly is! I had the opportunity to see this artist in action at CHSIstitsches (NEC Birmingham) just a couple of weeks ago! It was an awesome, and I don't use that word lightly here, experience watching a master at work - poetry in motion it was! Paul Antonio is a master calligrapher, a lovely guy and I adore his work. I will be following Paul Antonio forever more and feel very privileged to have met such a humble man at, what is now, my annual retreat into the world of a paper-crafting trade show! Thanks Paul Antonio - I'm hooked! xOx
Please, I have an important question: How do you (the artist) get the nibs to hold that much ink? I have to dip in after every stroke...? Super satisfying to watch!!
don't you just want to get really drunk sometime and get the lettering all f....d up ? and say f.... it? paul Antonio ? I know this goes against the grain but how do you not go nuts

Too many unnecessary curls imo. Neat nonetheless.
