Yamaha by far, the sound is clearer and fuller, and more open..
Decided to purchase the DR-100 after trying both at the guitar store. Swapped the strings to Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze 11-52. Simply love this guitar for the price I paid!

Strumming king f310 for amazing Bass response.
Epiphone is a banger for blues playing .. I lean towards the epi for rock blues purposes but that yamaha brings a big stick to bat.
Out of these two I prefer the Epiphone DR-100. It's the guitar I play. I have installed Grover tuners and use DR Veritas Phosphor Bronze strings.
If Martin & Co. made OEM guitars with their very own brand (not sigma) they should hire Yamaha. This F310 has an unreal Martin sound for an entry-level guitar.

Epiphone PRO-1 is definitely more comfortable for fast playing. It has a fingerstyle-friendly neck and super light strings.

Both guitars have factory strings. String gauge F-310 - 012-053, DR-100 - 012-053 (or 013-056 in different versions for countries). Hope this helps.

They ask about the Epiphone DR-100 vs the Yamaha F-310 not the Epiphone PRO-1. I have a Epiphone PRO-1 and Yamaha F-310. I like the Yamaha bright/overall sound just a little bit better over the Epiphone DR-100.

Both guitars have a very high quality build and won't break in 2 parts in a month :) Hope this helps you.

what is the calibration of the epiphone dr100 strings? and can you give me some advice please, which type Ernie Ball is best for him?
Factory strings gauge is 013-056. If you need a brighter sound, you can use Ernie Ball Phosphor Bronze strings.
You can also experiment with thinner strings, this also affects the sound of your guitar.
