Keep making movies like this Prem! I don't even mind if the movie length is going to be 3+ hours as long as the characters are written with conviction and are endearing. These are the kind of movies I will pay to watch in a theatre!!!
Did anybody talk about these scenes ? - 1. Karthi closes ASwamy's eyes from behind. But scratches his finger once and continues to close the eyes 2. Karthi asks ASwamy to lift his right buttocks to put the wallet back, uninhibittedly 3. Karthi writes his phone number and gently blows it to dry the ink (as it was a fountain pen - old school!) 4. Just before Karthi comes into the picture, Latha swipes Arvind Swamy's shoulder in the back - only people who are really close does that .....the list goes on...😊 What a movie❤
Please add some English subs also for us non Tamil speakers! It’s always a joy to watch these breakdowns with the directors for any cinephile, language no bar.
My interpretation of the movie: If Aravindswamy's father bought the house just like Karthi did for his wife, then Aravindswamy's character and life trajectory would have mirrored Karthi's. Aravindswamy opens up to and confides in Karthi because, in a sense, Karthi represents another version of Aravindswamy. By conversing with Karthi, Aravindswamy is in a way talking to a parallel version of himself. Aravindswamy couldn't initially identify with or fully accept this "other version" of himself, as he still harbored some unresolved feelings of resentment or vengeance. However, once he confronts his own guilt, he becomes ready to forgive, which immediately allows his true self, "Meiyazhagan", to emerge. The ability to see and connect with this parallel version of himself, and ultimately reconcile with it, represents a significant moment of self-discovery and growth for Aravindswamy's character.
Another character that touched my heart is the flower seller at the temple entrance. She looked like an angel consoling the disturbed Arulmozhi in the first meeting. After listening to this conversation I have decided to see the movie. I discovered myself as both the characters rolled into one.
Sridivya is a natural underrated beauty with good acting skills she did great job in this movie. This homely looking actress deserves more film offer's ❤
Loved this conversation. BR's questions and his genuine interest in gaining insight into new perspectives and articulating his own feelings sets his interviews apart from all the rest . Premkumar Sir is right. There do exist people who feel a lot for social causes. There was one gentleman - a family friend - unfortunately he is no more - who was one such person. I knew him since I was around 10 yrs old till when I was in my early thirties when he passed away after a road accident. During my evolving teenage years, he was always the calm, creative, socially - conscious person who would bond with everyone - people of all ages in every family that he interacted with . He remained a bachelor till his end and photography was his passion - S.M. Sharif was one person who was universally loved by all those who knew him.
I could watch 10hours of this man's movies and interviews. So well spoken and a brilliant creative mind. Need more filmmakers like these in Tamil cinema ❤ Thanks to BR for being probably the only source of such film content in Tamil!
I could listen to him talk for an eternity!!...a genius , Prem Kumar . I'm extremely proud that a profound writer like this exists 🖤🖤...wish to meet him one day 🙌💕
Sri Divya was just soo earthly and pureee in this film... Her personality was just too serene... Loved her character so much... Please do more films like this Sri Divya... Such an underrated actress... Really deserves more good roles 💜
The best interview ...❤ i feel terrible to not to watch this movie in theatre. I am not getting what was been removed but i am 100 % sure i would have loved it. I watched this with same intensity as watching the movie... ❤ loved it...its the realization of how this movie connected , or how you made it connected to us ❤
“For any man to retain the child inside him, it can happen only if the women in the house allow it.”- #prem Thank you for the movie Prem. Keep making such movies..we need such feel good movies from you every year. Don’t take much time.
Most beautiful movie of the year ❤ so many scenes were relatable, nostalgic, emotional. What beautiful performances by all actors. Even the small characters like mama or the wedding cook were so sweet. Very well done to the entire team who made this gem. Hats off director Prem🎉
BR in the review told Prem could hv shown more of sridivya n devadarshani to know more of how they handle aravind Swamy n karthi. Prem is a gem n needs to b preserved. Please ensure he does a lot of movies in tamil
This fillm deserves much more audience & appreciation. What a beautiful film by C Prem Kumar. Awesome interview Both 96 & Meiazhagan are Masterpieces 🎞🎬👌🏼🤘🏻💯🎥
Prem, please make movies like 96 and Meiazhagan. Not bothered about the length. We want some lovely homely stories. Loved 96 and Meiyazyagan. Excellent movie.
Wonderful closing statement, Baddy. Fortunately i have a very close person in life resembling Meiyazhagan character. In fact when this movie's trailer was released my family could recognise and connect to that person ❤. I wish ppl who miss such a character in real life get to meet one in your world so soon. Life is Beautiful.
Liked this movie. It was reliving many memories/emotions. The talkative part was good but stretchy for my parents. I was shocked because I thought they would like it more than us. I wished like baddy said there was some action (not stunts) or event instead of drunken talk. This would have worked if it was a series and 1 ep with the talk. I loved how the Director interpretation of the human emotions. My fav kseries - my liberation notes and my mister. They have flawed ppl surviving their life and it is so relatable with gem dialogues - thinking or speaking only raw emotions and no advice. I hope the director does a movie/series like that too and also a women centric movie because these shifting of house , the emptiness, the adaptability - they have so much strength to endure them all but it is taken for granted.
Both his movies and interviews are like a learning process for me that changes the mindset of looking at people. It shuts the urge and makes me think to concentrate on what should the focus be... Respect Sir!!!❤❤❤
This is not just an interview, but a deep-dive into the world of Prem Kumar's own life and style of film-making on the likes of '96' and 'Meiyazhagan' and also an absolute masterclass for all the aspiring filmmakers.❤
There are very few movies that we would never want to end. Meiyazhagan is one such beautiful journey for me. Even if it had run for 4hours I would've loved it !
Knowing the mind of a writer/ director like Prem is a tough task. Thank you Baddy for this amazing conversation that you have with artistes where you are the curious audience member who wants to know the HOW of the thoughts! Yet another amazing interview!Loved the nuances of observations clarified! ❤
I love the Periyaar photo and murugan photo....But Periyaar is not kulasamy he is against a particular religion and there are many leaders like kamarajar, kakan,Pearingar Annaa and many more...Anyways I loved Prem as usual...
That is my favourite part in 96...that tension filled thavil& nadaswaram when he says that...and the moment the music suddenly halts when ram says he ran away before thaali kattardhu...brilliant!
I watched in theatre already. My marks 💐👍
When playing cricket, Arvindswamy character as a school boy doesn't share his biscuits and milk with other kids which seemed a bit off considering that he had grown with lot of cousins and also taking care of them. So how could that character doesn't like to share the biscuits when playing cricket?
Indha interview pathutu movie pathrundha feel Inum vera madiri irukum nenaikren. May be for some movies, after press release, they should have 1 or two interview with spoilers that could enhance the essence of the movie. May be for some ppl who feel it’s slow, after this interview if they watch, they will have a different feel.
Why did the director normalised drinking alcohol for talking? Why can't the 2 men talk without it? A question on these lines would have been appreciated. Otherwise a good interview. Thanks.
Did the director normalise it? Or he showed something which is already normalised by society? It's a fact that alcohol does lift up your inhibitions, the characters are like most people you see in real life, so it makes sense
Very very disappointing to see such a genuine filmmaker talking about ev.ve.ra being like God. There's been this difference only in tamil cinema to always show bad people for good things! Cool guy, but he's a lil bit wrong abt periyar. he was against a particular religion and he's definitely not a saint. it's okay though, i like prem, nobody's perfect.
and all the periyar dickriders who are triggered, chillout guys, the evidence is out there, pls be a little bit more open. never worship a person blindly, always question their actions. sure he's done good things, but will that overshadow all the evil things he did?

Dear Rangan sir this 2 part conversation was one of your best. It was as poetic as the movie. Thank you.

He did share the biscuits. Not the milk for obvious reasons. In the scene when panning out u can see biscuits in kids hand who are sitting on the wall

Why did the director normalised drinking alcohol for talking? Why can't the 2 men talk without it? A question on these lines would have been appreciated. Otherwise a good interview. Thanks.
Drinking is the only reason for which they are awake in the night, otherwise there is nothing to do other than sleeping.
Did the director normalise it? Or he showed something which is already normalised by society?
It's a fact that alcohol does lift up your inhibitions, the characters are like most people you see in real life, so it makes sense
U wanna know why ? Because there is no other non judgemental space for grown men to be expressive , unfortunately !! Think about it.
I wanted to know why jallikattu and that chozhan temple scene was made? I wanted to know from the director’s mouth.
As usual sanghis crying you know why 🤣🤣🤣
