Enoch Burke is not being fined for his religious beliefs. He was not dismissed for his religious beliefs, nor were his beliefs the reason he ended up in prison. These things were the result of his own behaviour in his dealings with the school authorities which were totally unprofessional and breached codes of practice expected from any employee. He is deliberately abusing this situation to garner support from anti-trans people. For someone who has such ‘purported’ ethical standards, he seems fine with this ‘reprehensible’ gaslighting.
For the people commenting for and against him, he was not suspended with pay or fired for anything to do with the pronouns. It was harassment and assault of a member of his SMT followed by breaches of court orders and employee contract rights.
You are lying. He was ''originally'' suspended with pay following his refusal of a request to recognise a transgender student by their preferred pronouns, they/them.
@@dermotosullivan3065 from the comments, are people clearly getting mixed up. Again, it was an issue that he may have created. He didn't teach the kid and wasn't ever likely to. This could have been avoided until, perhaps it couldn't, and then he could have sincerely launched appeals up the proscribed avenue, parents, smt, Bord of management, school operators, department, courts, supreme court. Its a shame for him that he couldn't act composed. I hear he was a competent teacher. I'm one myself and they can be lacking. I've reported a fair few in my day for not knowing their subjects, for covering teacher-student relationships up, for mistreating legal documents and for losing track of kids welfare but I've never seen a thing done. This is not about religous beliefs. He signed a contract with the school to work under it's ethos. So if that goes against his religious beliefs then in signing that contract he subverted his own religous beliefs...not the court and not the school or the state. The fine is place because he is consistently breaking the conditions of an injunction to prevent him entering the property and premises of the school of which he no longer is an employee. Cherry picking what he wants to talk about is indicitive of the weakness of his position. He too is not above the law .
"Faithful to the Last Will and Testament of Andrew Wilson, made in 1724, Wilson’s Hospital School maintains a distinctive Church of Ireland ethos, fostering Christian practice and teaching, promoting dignity and respect for the individual and constantly committed to the provision of a caring family atmosphere in which education can flourish." The school mission statement. Christian practise and teaching? I think not.....
Any contract or ethos or code of behaviour is subject to the law of the land, which demands the right of free speech, which in turn denies the imposition of compelled speech. As in this case.

If you're at peace with being a biological woman, then you weren't experiencing gender dysphoria. Those of us who are transgender, we know what gender dysphoria is.
I know a girl who wanted to be a boy from childhood. Parents let her get on with it. Fast forward to age 16 and the girl turned into a girly girl. Thank God none of this grooming was around 10 yes ago.
Good for you. These socalled trans kids are being done no favours by being pandered to. They should be encouraged to love themselves for who they are, not encouraged to take buckets of untested medications which are now known to cause serious permanent harms, and mutilate their bodies which often ends disastrously. The suicide rate of people identifying as 'trans' is also alarmingly high... Anywhere from 15 to 50% depending on the stage of their transition. The Tavistock Clinic which was closed recently have at least 1,000 cases being brought against them. If you're going to teach this stuff to children you need to also show them the dark side. If you cannot do that, then don't teach them this stuff.
Your not being fined because of your religious belief, but because of your behaviour and no respect on Irish constitution. If your not happy with the policies of the school just resign and look for a school that fits your principles. You've gone too far now, you should be teaching. He is not being punished for his religion or his religious beliefs. He was suspended indefinitely by the school for refusing to refer to a student as the pronouns they wanted. He then decided to come in anyway the next day, thereby violating the order the school gave. Then he was slapped with a court order to not go to the school, did anyway. He's getting fined for violating a court order.
He wasn't even suspended for refusing to refer to the student by their preferred pronoun. He was suspended for aggressively confronting a staff member at mass.
That's not exactly what happened, but it's close. He threw a tantrum and became verbally abusive to the school principal. He took exception to other members of staff complying with the request.

No, he just wants a platform for news coverage, he could get that by protesting outside the court house, or proselytizing in a street in any major town. Yeah, but "feelings" have no place in law, Happy Channel, because they're not facts. His religious beliefs have not been impinged - rather, the opposite - his doctrinal zeal is promoting a dictate on the very beliefs Burke holds; he's being punished for his behaviour in relation to the law, which, if you consider the edicts of religion, preach tolerance, respect & humility to alternate perspectives; it is not for the school to lay down any other regulatory mandate, other than to educate & maintain a level of discipline & behaviour that is concommitant with every individual student's wishes, including the demeanour of the teaching staff; hell, he wasn't even teaching that particular child...& if you look to the recent history of the school, there was another child a few years previously who was also transitional - Burke never made remonstration in that case; it begs the question as to why he did not....so before you start eliciting judgement upon this educational establishment, I might suggest you look more closely at the Burke family ideology & the countless confrontations they've implemented upon the local community they reside within....

A traditional 2-gender Christian society speaking English as its main language. Or was he the only teacher or staff member with the principle and courage to speak up? Sounds to me like this woke outfit were trying to cancel him. Being ignored would wind up anyone trying to make sense of a workplace trying to gaslight & dismiss a highly qualified teacher. I believe it was constructive dismissal accompanied by stress of being gaslighted, ehich Mr Burke should have taken straight to the work tribunal. Maybe he still will. (Matt 9:11) Your comment of the child being an "abomination" is not in God's word nor is it in his teachings. For those who love to preach a lot you certainly don't understand the Lord's word.
I'm not religious but I support Burke on this 100%. It is insane that a teacher or any worker can be dismissed from their job for not going along with transgenderist ideology.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE DON'T WORK WHERE DIFFERENT PEOPLE WILL BE (TEACHING, MEDICAL ETC) WHAT HE DID COULD LITERALLY HAVE LED THAT KID TO SUICIDE.
What's the difference between someone identifying as Trans or gay? If he refused to teach a gay child because of his religious beliefs, would you similarly back him? Yes? No? In which case, why make allowances for him to override what the student thinks and wants, when the student's family and the school itself accept that child's outlook - but he doesn't, and he claims his religion prevents that? In which case, again, just how much would you allow or accept him to choose to ignore the student's wishes - if they are identifying as Trans, or if they identified as gay? Still 100%?
Why are the parents in this school not standing by Mr Burke after all its the children's well being this teacher was fighting for in the first place ?.
Standing by a man who uses his religious beliefs as justification for his bullying, harassment and psychological abuse of a minor? I wonder why parents aren't supporting him
The children wrote him a letter expressing concern at the disruption he was causing but he refused to accept it. Don't think the children's wellbeing is of any interest to him.
Probably for the same reason most parents wouldn't - they don't care, and just want a quiet life. And today, there can hardly be a family in the country that doesn't have a gay child, niece, nephew, brother, sister etc somewhere in it, so parents - and I'm not saying trans and gay kids are the same (they're Not) - have a more open-mInded approach to identity these days, and grasp that Some kids identify differently to the majority - And That's Okay. You won't find many parents who want and back a sacked teacher at a school that's told him to feck Right off, effectively, to continue showing up at the school gates, any more than they'd be happy about any other unemployed man (or woman) with no right to enter that school similarly showing up to stand at the gates outside all day.
I have it on good authority that Enoch fell in love with his cellmate in Mountjoy Prison. He is desperate to get back in there to rekindle the romance. It's a tough time for him as he revisits his once firmly held beliefs on sexuality. Don't tell anyone though, because that's how rumours start.

It's so SAD we live in a ridiculous state at the moment... All because of some students pronouns... We should support him and get some mental help for that trans kid...
this fine is because he continued to go to school even after suspension, regardless of the kids problem, he broke school policy. he was still being given full pay too. he didn't have to like the child just being appropriate in class is all he had to do . besides he only got suspended when he publicly humiliated the kid in a church sermon in front of EVERYBODY and then went on to targeting the principle for allowing the student to express themselves. he only got brought to court after trying to enter the school and teach class MULTIPLE times during this suspension, not because of his attitude towards the kid but because he violated school policy.
What's sad is how Ireland has, for many decades, been a country with many suffering lives of quiet desperation. No longer. While I respect people's right to express themselves religiously, he's also a teacher at a school where an older child is trying to discover their gender. He picked the wrong profession in the wrong country if he's not willing to be a little secular and leave some of his views at the door. It's a Christian school - if they find christianity offensive or wrong then why pretend to be christian? This would be the equivalent of telling the pope to preach the Quran. He chose to work in a Christian school - you could equally argue that the student should find a non christian school instead. Acceptance goes both ways. Just because you have opposing views doesn't mean there is a motive to be malice. A right to religion is effectively a right to hold a belief. If people dont start respecting eachother, we'll all be forced to believe what the state tells us to believe. Religious belief forms the basis of free will in my opinion.

Would I have been wrong to think I was trans then? And when did You get put in charge of deciding what other people could be?
If you do a very basic Google search you’ll see that many of the effects of hormone therapy are reversible, if you stop taking them. As far as you say “mutilating” the body is concerned: it doesn’t happen until LATER in life. When that child has become an ADULT, and they are absolutely sure they want to transition.

Those who deny that transgender people are transgender are the ones who are denying reality. Such people tend to have wildly mistaken ideas as to what transgender people are. They could use a bit of education. This man is a teacher? Maybe he could educate himself.

He is a fool and has made himself the laughingstock of the country.
Yes, under no circumstance should his parents or any parents be allowed to cooperate with a religious organisation to indoctrinate a child into believing their lunatic delusions. Pay a fine for having faith and speaking the truth?? Does that also apply to non-Christians?? Mr Burke is a man with principles and deserves great respect!!
AMEN. The LORD will bless those who stand for HIM and respect and keep HIS commandments. Enoch Burke has taken a stand for the Word of GOD. This country (and indeed the world) has and is falling into the pit. The written Word of GOD (as recorded in the Holy Bible) is clear - God created MAN and WOMAN in HIS own image. The devil is a liar and the father of lies. The Holy Bible tells us that the devil (Satan) is the god of this world and that - following the fall of humanity in the garden - the world has been given over to the devil and those who serve him. Soon, the promised return of Jesus Christ will come ... only this time He will not come as the suffering servant, but as the King of Kings and He will rule with a rod of iron. He will remove the wicked from high places and exalt the humble. He will establish HIS kingdom upon this earth for 1,000 years. Before that day comes, the world will witness a great falling away from the faith (belief in GOD) and great darkness shall come upon the land. The end of days is upon us ... and the signs of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ are everywhere (wars and rumours of wars, plagues, pestilence, severe and extreme weather events, and the love of many growing increasingly colder) as Jesus spoke about (recorded in the book of Matthew, chapter 24). Jesus said there would be mockers and scoffers in the last days, whose conscience has been seared and whose hearts have been hardened toward GOD. For this reason (we are told) GOD turns them over to their own vile affections: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. " - Romans 1;26 Look around and you will see a world that has turned its back on the teachings and commandments of GOD. A world where we celebrate SIN and condemn and ridicule righteousness. You must choose which side you will fight on - because this is a battle between good and evil. Our "leaders" are corrupt. Our world is falling apart. Our children are taught there is no God. Our daughters are taught to choose to kill a baby in its' mothers womb when circumstances are not convenient or cost of parenthood is prohibitive. Our sons are taught there is no hope and that life is cheap and we wonder why they choose death (suicide) over life. The Day of Judgment is at the door. Who will YOU serve? GOD or man? Here's the GOOD NEWS if your heart has not yet hardened toward GOD... There is the promise of everlasting life and forgiveness for YOUR sins and it is offered to you this day through faith in Jesus Christ. Accept YOUR need for a saviour. Believe Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried and raised again into eternal life. Call upon the LORD and YOU shall be saved from the judgment to come. Only believe. Only Jesus (the Son of GOD) saves. Be blessed!
I personally am irreligious but this school issuing an edict as to how a student/s should be addressed is compelled speech- the very opposite of the free speech to which we are all entitled. The students concerned may wish to be titled in whatever way, but they have no absolute right to that This is wrong
The important thing to note here is that none of the current orders against him are because of Religious beliefs, merely that as Pauline above stated he has brazenly ignored Court Orders and that because of this the Court Sided against him to balance the scales of justice. The funny thing is, had he not been in contempt of court over not attending the school while the case is under review and refused to purge it, he probably would have had a successful case.
We don't have an anything-goes approach to free speech here, like they have in America - which you know very well. Look at their broken, divided nation across the pond, full of white supremacists, Holocaust deniers, neonazis and fascists, people like Alex Jones mocking the Sandy Hook parents etc - that's *their* version of free speech, but that's *not* the free speech that *We* have *Here* thankfully. There *are* limits to free speech here, and consequences - I suspect that if I stood outside your mum's house and started loudly shouting "Dirty bitch! Slut! Dirty slapper! Bitch!" at her/the house any time I saw the curtains twitch, you'd be on to the guards in seconds. (I'm sure your mammy is very nice, just making a point.) You don't want That level or openess of 'free speech', but accept that there Are limits, and that citizens have a right to expect same.
It was not an edict, it was a request. And (there's a chance I'm wrong here) afaik the request was not even sent to Enoch, just to the teachers that actually teach the child.
@@johnosullivan675 The process arose after the teacher objected to a request by the school, based on a request from a student and their parents, earlier this year to address a student, who wishes to transition, by a different name and to use the pronoun “they” rather than “he or she” going forward. Mr Burke, it is claimed objected to this, has questioned the school’s position, and says that a belief system is being forced on students, and claims that the school’s request amounts to a breach of constitutional rights. The school denied to Mr Burke in correspondence that anyone is being “forced” to do anything. The school said it is focusing on the needs and welfare of its students and is affirming its policy in accordance with the 2000 Equal Status Act of not discriminating against any student. It says it has acknowledged Mr Burke’s religious beliefs but expects him to communicate with the student in accordance with the student’s and their parents’ wishes.

You have to leave a certain amount of beliefs at the door of your workplace. That's how life works Nat Hat. Say I'm a devout Catholic rather than a somewhat practising Catholic. Say I start to take the evangelical side of Catholicism really serious. Say I start trying to convert people at work? Say I'm a Muslim. Say I see some women not wearing the proper Muslim attire at work and start telling them what to wear? What happens in either circumstance. Sure, both are probably worse that what happened here. However, you cannot truly practice every aspect of your religious life in most walks of society because you risk offending somebody. the only reason he was fined is because after being dismissed / put on leave he kept showing up to school and trying to get into a class room and and argued with the principle, he was on payed leave as well, he is an adult, he doesn't have to agree with the Childs pronouns but respect is earned, he couldn't respect that child, therefore he deserves no respect, if needs be he could've just called the child by their name instead of throwing a hissy fit about, people respect others religions once they are respectful about their beliefs, he was in no way respectful to anyone involved in this and is absolutely putting on a "I am a victim of discrimination against my beliefs" when that very well isn't the case. he needs to get over himself, if he had kept his mouth shut and was a respectful human being none of this would've happened so its his own fault, he deserves no sympathy and the way he was acting is pathetic
@ruthdubh He sought out and verbally abused and harassed a minor in the school, using his religious beliefs to justify his opinions and behaviour. He was then told to stop and used that to justify harassing colleagues and superiors, interrupting official school activites after he was suspended with pay to continue his abuse, fired and then ordered by a court to stay off school property. He continued to break the court order so he was jailed for over 100 days and now continues to break the order not to trespass and is being fined for breach of a court order not to trespass. He's not being fined for his religious beliefs or his bigotry or his child abuse. He's being fined for breaching a court order repeatedly, which started with him abusing a child

Fairly intelligent fella but he is paid to teach not to act as a moral guardian for other people. He is entitled to practice his religion but not to judge others.
Why should he have to play into this mental illness
Calling a child by their legal gender should not be a crime, even if we disagree with it!
@@greggoog7559 It's not crazy is just we have a better understanding of the issues now, and if it helps the kids get on with their life then the teacher should do everything to help that, not shower the kid with bronze age superstitions. Personally, I feel sorry for him( Enoch) and I feel sorry for the kid being subjected to him, it must be bad enough being born in the wrong body( gender) and trying to come to terms with that, but then to have an authority figure confusing you more with his biblical take on it.
@@johhny711 just on top of what you said, he should have acted in a professional manner and discussed privately with principal and board of management. This what happens when you think superstitious beliefs overrule the law.
Are you saying the Law forbids one from adhering to their religion beliefs? They wouldn’t try this on even for one second with Islam.

How so
he can worship his magic sky daddy in the privacy of his own home, he has no right to enforce his beliefs on others

He can have his beliefs people are not saying he can’t have his beliefs. He is not innocent of a crime he violated a court order and harassed the principal of the school.
Enoch should never have been suspended in the first place. Teachers are being asked to deny reality. That's not good for students. Leads them on a bad path they may regret as adults.
So Enoch should have been allowed to stay at a school where he abused and bullied a minor?
Never happened..
@@ulpetzmaznat1366 so the principal endorsing the idea a teacher is to endorse transgenderism by confirming it was just a coincidence? Yeah ?
Those who deny that transgender people are transgender are the ones who are denying reality. Such people tend to have wildly mistaken ideas as to what transgender people are. They could use a bit of education. This man is a teacher? Maybe he could educate himself.

Fair play to him. Forcing people to participate in other people's delusions should be against the law
Yes, under no circumstance should his parents or any parents be allowed to cooperate with a religious organisation to indoctrinate a child into believing their lunatic delusions. You're absolutely right: a boy in a dress is a boy. And a transgender girl is a transgender girl. See if you can learn the difference.

Good man Enoch. You speak the truth. Keep going.
Enoch is a legend alright. Should erect a statue for him, preferably outside the school or the child's house
For this reason (we are told) GOD turns them over to their own vile affections:
"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. " - Romans 1;26
Look around and you will see a world that has turned its back on the teachings and commandments of GOD.
Be blessed!

The next Bond villian
I personally am irreligious but this school issuing an edict as to how a student/s should be addressed is compelled speech- the very opposite of the free speech to which we are all entitled.
The students concerned may wish to be titled in whatever way, but they have no absolute right to that
This is wrong
You can have free speech, and you can call your boss a jerk but you’ll face the consequences.
(I'm sure your mammy is very nice, just making a point.)
You don't want That level or openess of 'free speech', but accept that there Are limits, and that citizens have a right to expect same.
I disagree with this man. His beliefs are personal
Judging people , hope God is kinder to him
Gender identity is as much a religious belief as christianity. He shouldn't be forced to take part in it. He was wrongfully terminated, so he protested as one should. He's housed in flipping Mountjoy with rapists and murderers for this. It's senseless.

@@moloids Mocking any student is harassment, this is comparable to simply telling the student you don't believe in God and won't pray. He wasn't going ''HAW HAW you think you're a hermaphrodite lololol'' to the student, he just didn't want to participate.

@@emmamccarthy5014 gender ideology is a religion I guess you haven't read any of the books on the topic.
He was dismissed for abuse of a minor, not because of his religious beliefs
@@verduoh what abuse thom any detail at all
the only reason he was fined is because after being dismissed / put on leave he kept showing up to school and trying to get into a class room and and argued with the principle, he was on payed leave as well, he is an adult, he doesn't have to agree with the Childs pronouns but respect is earned, he couldn't respect that child, therefore he deserves no respect, if needs be he could've just called the child by their name instead of throwing a hissy fit about, people respect others religions once they are respectful about their beliefs, he was in no way respectful to anyone involved in this and is absolutely putting on a "I am a victim of discrimination against my beliefs" when that very well isn't the case. he needs to get over himself, if he had kept his mouth shut and was a respectful human being none of this would've happened so its his own fault, he deserves no sympathy and the way he was acting is pathetic
To be honest I feel a bit sorry for him, the guy was brought up by religious zealots, he's been indoctrinated into hardcore, fire and brimstone evangelism since birth so how he's behaving now has a lot to do with his upbringing, when your bombarded with that kind of hate since birth your bound to be fucked up.
