- Do you really need an expensive or even mid-range tripod? Let's see how the cheaper options stack up again the better known options from Manfrotto. Sorry about the units...I almost immediately gave up on the conversions to metric. Most of my viewers are in the U.S., and I'm getting tired of the word soup required to explain it in both 😬

Sorry about the odd colour mixes between the wide and tight angles. I locked in my white balance Before putting an ND filter on my wider angle camera and things got iffy. Rookie move. 😏

I use my Canon 800D with kitlens on a 4$ tripod and it does the job pretty well! Made of aluminum and some plastic but its great for the price LOL

I do, but I don’t much care for them. I’ve reverted back to boring thinly insulated leather gloves. One thing about mirrorless cameras...your glove options are a bit limited.

I have the Manfrotto Be Free carbon fibre tripod (older version than yours) and it works well for me because of its light weight - I take it with me most times on hikes. I agree with your dislike of the Manfrotto quick release - the safety catch on mine broke within the first couple of weeks of getting it. I always have some secondary method of preventing the camera falling on the ground, using the camera strap, but getting the other type of quick release sounds like a good idea. I like the snap method of clamping the legs because its quick and the mechanism is not badly affected by sand and grit getting into it, whereas the twist type, in my experience, can get gummed up with grit - this is a problem in the dry, dusty environments in Africa.
That comment you made at the end is precisely why I'm so interested in the Peak Design tripod - I absolutely hate bringing tripods with me on shoots. I'm a run-and-gun photographer, mainly working in an urban environment, and lugging a tripod along is just such a hassle. It slows me down, I hardly use them enough to justify giving up the water bottle slot in my backpack, so they're pretty much just dead weight to me. The compact form factor of the PDTT might actually mean that I bring it with me on shoots, something I haven't done in so long!

@@WesPerry same, it almost seems to good to be true! I was considering picking up the aluminum one at some point, but prior to this test I never realised how much better carbon fiber is at handling vibrations. I'm gonna go out on a non-scientific limb and say that's probably related to the properties of metal. Guess I'm spending way too much money on a tripod after all :p
Although I Do think that tripod is a bit overpriced, at the same time, if you’re going for the most compact tripod ever, it almost seems like a waste to not go for broke (literally) and get the lighter carbon fiber one 🤷🏻♂️
I have 2 tripods, one a big one from Induro with CF and almost 7' tall (I am a tall guy) and a little travel tripod from Benro. I seldom hike more than 500' from the car, so I usually use my Induro. The travel tripod seemed like a good buy when I purchased it 5 years ago, however I have used it maybe 6 times.
Different people have different needs...including you apparently ;)
@@WesPerry I have a problem walking more than a 1000' at a time without significant foot pain.
Interesting ! I have the Neewer tripod & use it as my walk about tripod, I would probably use it if taking one on a plane too. Suspect the difference in weight is the ball head, as you said the Manfrotto is plasticy. I actually replaced the Neewer one for a Gitzo, just what you get used to, kind of like the three knobs.
As for extending the centre column, I was taught if you do that you have a tripod with a monopod resting on the top, therefore not going to be sturdy ! & the Neewer came with a small stub, which I swapped, making the tripod lighter.
Bag hook to weigh it down, again that would be in windy conditions, you now have a pendulum, camera bag swaying in the breeze, making the camera shake / sway even more ! DON'T use it !!!
I also have a K&F concept tripod, very similar to the Neewer, can't remember why but it lives in the wardrobe & the Neewer gets used.
I also have a Manfrotto 055 XPRO B, now that is a beast ! probably weighs as much as all the others put together ! It has a levelling head for Pano's and a massive Gitzo ball head that would hold anything stable...

Actually a lot of the weight difference is in those super skinny legs the Manfrotto has as well.
And as for swinging in the wind, I can’t say I’ve ever shot in conditions windy enough to make my camera bag swing under there.
The Moman tripod has the third ball head knob, and boy do I find it annoying. Haha. Two is quite enough for me ;)
And what about the milk bottles?? I don’t get it 🤷🏻♂️😂
@@WesPerry OK maybe not swinging in the wind, but when you first hang it there it will take time to settle... Don't know ! never tried it, never had to !

Why does the center column of the Manfrotto CF look to be angled? The rest of the tripod appears to be straight.
Must just be the viewpoint? It's not coming out on an angle, if that what you mean. What's different about it, though, is it's not a round shaft like all the others, but angular. Not sure if that's an aesthetic or engineering choice.

I have good news.
Both versions can be used.
Both are correct.
Sir Humphry Davy, first called the material _Alumium,_ in 1808, because the metal was found in alum.
Then in 1812, he proposed the name _Aluminum,_ because it comes straight from alumina (isn't produced from the astringent salt, alum), hence the name: Aluminum.
One year prior, another scientist, coined aluminium, because it sounded better, with other elements, such as potassium and sodium.
The US ended up getting the proposed version from Davy (1828 Webster's dictionary), while the British Empire eventually chose _Aluminium._
Only in the 1909 Webster's dictionary, was the word finally revised.
2 versions became acceptable in usage.
_(By the way, if you don't believe me, the Cambridge, and Oxford dictionary also lists it as acceptable, but differentiates them, by seperation of British English/North American spelling, today.)_

Must just be the angle the whole thing is sitting? It comes out straight. Unless you mean the shape of it, which is indeed angular for some reason.
