It's actually refreshing to watch a UA-cam video where someone is lit by a normal light in this era where everyone's got the same dark room neon light Cyberpunk 2077 ahh setup.
It was the Brazil Ladies Cup. A bizarre friendly tournament that included 7 club teams and the Paraguayan national team for some reason lol Also, I think if I understood the translation of the video (Canal GOAT livecast it on UA-cam in Portuguese, you can find it in their live history), the gesture wasn't even towards a player on the opposing team, it was towards the ball boy, which is another layer of weirdness here. Also the app you're using is behind, this was a 3-0 awarded win for Gremio on this formality. It didn't update because River Plate was lodging a protest, which they withdrew.
Seems like the incident with the ball boy is really what sent this into overdrive. At one point, a River Plate player jumped over the boards to sprint at the ball boy on the running track, who after having to be held back from attacking the River Plate players, decided to sprint in the opposite direction, which caused River Plate to give chase.
Probably already been said, but you need 7 players to continue a game. They dont all need to be sent off, some can be injured, but the opposite team should be awarded a 3-0 win automatically. See the Battle of Bramall Lane from 2002 for an example
Zealand forgot to tell that 4 of the River players are in jail here in Brasil. Racist gestures are a criminal offense here and the police had to lock them immediataly, that's why River removed themselves from the competition
If a team goes below 7 players, the laws of the game state that rhe game must he abandoned and the team that drops below 7 players is given a 3-0 loss. Weirdly, the match can be abandoned by the referee but the 3-0 usually can't be. The league usually hands that down after recieving the referee's report.
I mean for video its at the very least suboptimal lighting as it throws alot of shadows. But outside of video... that how you look, most rooms have a central light, dont they
@LiftandCoa shadows can create more depth in the frame and overall makes the shot more ”cinematic” and interesting. If it’s not a makeup tutorial where you need every millimetre of the face lit, then I prefer side lighting for the vibes.
Allegedly, the River Plate players abused the brazilian ball boy racially, which kicked of the scandal. 4 River plate players were arrested after the incident, because racism is a crime in Brazil.
The hate between Brazil and Argentina has been growing in the last few years, and a lot of it has to do with the racism coming from the argentinians, and then the brazillians responding by making fun of how argentina is fucked financially, add the fact that Brazil has been dominating south american football, and there you have it. I'm brazillian, and i know a lot of people who think that every argentinian is a racist now (which obviously isn't true), but that is what hate causes...
Also the fact that brazilian police always treats away fans like shit, you can not have a normal copa libertadores/sudamericana in brazil without the police creating more problems than they solve
There is no limit to the number of red cards that a referee can give, though the game would be stopped as soon as there are less than 7 players of a team remaining legally on the pitch. As of Law 3 in the FIFA Law Book, there cannot be less than 7 players of a team, on the field during play. In effect, a maximum of 4 on-field players of the same team can be dismissed. Once 5 on-field players (substitutes do not count) of the same team are red carded, the match ends. If the referee has red-carded 4 players and all 7 substitutes of each team (22 players in total), the game can still continue, provided there are no further red cards to players of either side. The law (for continuation of the game) however, states only the on-field players. There is no limit to the number of red cards that can be shown to the substitutes on the bench, the manager and the coaching staff. Also, red cards can be handed to the on-field players/substitutes/coaching staff after the game has ended based on the referee reports and video analysis (wherever applicable). The record for the most red-cards handed out in a single match is during a fifth tier Argentinian league game between Claypole and Victoriano Arenas, where 36 red cards were shown.
Teams can play with up to 7 including the goalkeeper (4 reds/or injuries with no subs left) then upon issue of a 5th red card(or injury resulting in team going down to 6 players) the game is forfeited by the team who received the red cards/injury as a 3-0 loss.
OH MY FUCKING GOD ZEALAND ACTUALLY MADE A VIDEO OUT OF MY TWEET WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK I'M SO HAPPY RN (yes, that's my Twitter, turns out the dude rambling about NYC FC here is also the dude rambling about NYC FC there)
I found most of the entire incident here: ua-cam.com/video/I7lhdYUbeQU/v-deo.html It's ridiculous how long the River Plate players discuss with the referee; spoiled brats who never saw consequences in their lives. How many different random staff-members come onto the pitch is quite funny, too.
Sustained cringe won't award you for its sheer length and magnitude, if you believe it will- that's survivorship bias, and you won't achieve anything of substance regardless.
The situation with the Brazil and Argentina issue is a lot more complicated. Yes, the gesture is xenophobic (I wouldn't precisely call it racist, because it's more towards a nationality than race, but also, most football banter is pretty xenophobic when you put two clubs/countries playing each other, not saying it's right, but it's what it is). But I think it's more to do about Brazilian relationship with foreign clubs playing in Brazil, where they'd get CONMEBOL to punish severely a team for a single ultra making the monkey gesture in the stands, while they get a free pass for literally having the police unprovokedly beat the crap out of any foreign fan. So, when you get a gesture to be a symbol of an absolutely abusive disparity in justice, you'll probably end up fueling it and seeing it more often. Again, not saying that making xenophobic gestures is okay. Because it's not. But it's also not as simply portrayed here as a one dimensional issue of one team being xenophobic, because it's way more complex, and the Brazilian side has its own dirt and provocation as well.
How is monkey gesture specifically targeted at Brazillians? It’s very much a racial thing (racial discrimination that black people are subhuman and ape like). Yes, Argentinians first instinct when trying to insult us Brazilians is to call us monkeys but this happened in Spain against Dani Alves not because he was Brazilian but because he is black. What a “coincidence” that the ballboy getting monkey gestures is also black. Ffs, just take the L man. Yeah police brutality is a issue for sure but our police also beats Brazilian fans, this isn’t some targeted brutality at foreigners.
Yea that's the problem, it's not a one dimensional problem where argentinians are racist brats that will call a brazilian person a monkey the second something happens, or where brazilians are xenophobic assholes and their police will beat up foreign fans just for existing, it's a constant back and forth of hate. Brazil takes racism EXTREMELY seriously and thus demands that CONMEBOL punishes every single small act of racism that happens on a football pitch, which isn't a bad thing, but Argentina argues that brazilian fans put local argentinian pesos on fire and let them fall on top of argentinian fans along with calling them hungry argentinians or starving argentinians (which i believe qualifies as xenophobia) during games and CONMEBOL doesn't really do anything against those acts, hence that belief of disparity (Fueled by the fact that most south american countries believe that Brazil is "CONMEBOL's favorite" or that, at the very least, gets preferential treatment). This becomes worse when the police gets involved, as brazilian police is infamous for beating up foreign fans and even taking sides in brawls against foreign fans instead of focusing on ending the brawl (This even in cases where the brawl was started by brazilian fans, an example being in the days before the Fluminense - Boca Juniors Copa Libertadores Final when Fluminense ultras attacked Boca fans during a fan meetup and brazilian police showed up and started beating up Boca fans while letting the ultras leave without a lot of issues). In short, Brazil isn't in the wrong, Racism IS bad and SHOULD be punished, as a River Plate fan, our players shouldn't let their emotions overwhelm them like this, YOU KNOW what will happen, but this is just 1 example of a bigger problem that CONMEBOL refuses to address correctly, made even worse by a violent police force.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes. There is going to be loads of investment into women's football in the next two decades.
Zealand really dressed up as "How do you do fellow FM players?"
just for some more detail, in Brazil racism is a crime and 4 of those players actually got sent to jail.
Well at least charged with the crime and resting a little bit in jail waiting for trial hehehe
Haha that’ll learn ‘em, then :-)
10:53 Incidentally, it would appear the game WAS awarded to Gremio, it just wasn't reflected on Flashscore for some reason.
just so you know, 5 of these women were arrested and are until the moment i’m writing this in a penitentiary complex in São Paulo.

Cool hipster radical Zealandism for this video
The games reported as 0-3 now. Standard Fifa rules says game is abandoned with this many reds for one team, other wins on walkover.

Wild, it's not like Argentina has a long, storied history of racism and racist abuse, either 🤣
Match was abandoned due to not having enough players fielded to continue (kinda weird regardless)
