I think it was bc they were mad that they made the ponies human, like idk why they were complaining, they weren't even the target audience to begin with😭
I absolutely love the songs lmao I just pretend the movie doesn't exists, it helps that you don't really need the knowledge of equestria girls to fully watch mlp fim
@@juliabeewastaken It’s Because The movies are genuinely really bad, other than rainbow rocks which is decent, equestria girls just can’t use the same suspension of disbelief the show does for me, like fact Cinch learns magic exists and she decides to use it to win a high school tournament, also the fact in everfree the reasonable businessman is portrayed as the villain even though he went out of his way to give them more time just because they can’t afford it. Also these movies that are at least 70 minutes use the same pacing as a 25 minute episode.
@@lollivee6770 I feel the the movies are okay but they were as you said, fast paced. Also I honestly didn't like the human version of twilight in the legond of everfree movie. Like all of her friends were also going threw the thing of getting powers but she had to make it all about her.Not to mention the fact that sunset simmer was trying to help twilight feel better about being a villain but twilight didn't care and again, was making it all about her.
@@simple_snowflake yeah, That’s What really made me dislike Legend of ever free, like cinemare sins said what Sunset really should’ve told her is that she was being delusional for think she was the center of everything going on
Mlp creators:we just need some villain songs. They don't have to be fire, nor so good that you can listen to them 14 years later. Mlp song writers, musicians and singers: make them absolute fire. Got it.
“MLP is for little girls, grow up!” The villains are a pure example of some actual troubles. Midnight Sparkle was forced into an action she soon regretted. Isn’t that peer pressure? Gloriosa was about to lose something she loved, and declared a fight against it, no matter it was trapping the people she swore to defend. Tempest/Fizzlepop experienced childhood trauma and was left alone the rest of her life. Chrysalis is a manipulator who had a high chance of marrying someone who they didn’t even love. The Dazzlings wanted to enslave the whole school and could’ve even got what they wanted if Sunset Shimmer didn’t step in to help the mane 6.
Midnight sparkle and gloriosa go even deeper with their themes. Midnight was coerced into doing that in order to keep the reputation of her school, which would lead to her graduating as top student from a well respected high school. That would greatly improve her chances at further higher education and job prospects Gloriosa wasn't just about to lose something, she was about to lose something due to capitalism. Now corruption in capitalism is a common theme in cartoons in general, but it's still a huge issue that exists to this day
"We Will Stand For Everfree" hits so different. Whenever I hear her say "We will stand for Everfree!" I can't get the thought that she's singing "Forever free!" Instead, and it's honestly not far from her motive. She wanted to be free from the guy who's buying the camp that her and her family has had since forever, and she only wanted to keep it, "forever free."
As a kid I never thought about these things, “friendship is magic and therefore always correct”, but now I feel like “no no, the villains have a point”
“This Day Aria” has the honor of being the first villain song of the show, and the franchise as a whole. Prior to that, all music were happy-go-lucky songs (not to say they're bad, “Winter Wrap Up” and “The Smile Song” are still bops). But when “The Day Aria” came up, it just hit differently. All of a sudden, it was like, “Holy crap, that got real dark.” Also, songs in Seasons 1 and 2 were never used to display drama and despair. So, yeah. “This Day Aria” was a major turning point for the franchise as a whole and remains one of my favourite songs in all of MLP.
The guilt tripping, peer pressure, and trying to get Twilight to take on the all of the responsibility for the games is so accurate to nowadays high schools.
@nite-owl4689 I don't fully understand what they said buy I'll try to elaborate. Basically, they're saying that in Unleash The Magic, they are peer pressuring Twilight to open the locket thingy. Throughout the entire movie, they treated Twilight differently because of whatever reason. Most likely because of her intelligence, then when the games opened, the principal (??) put all the pressure on her because of her application to some sort of school. ( I think). In high school or even middle school, students get peer pressured to do all sort of things that they don't want to do. And similar to the movie, people get treated differently for any reason. Intelligence, different interests, etc. That's all I got. 😅
@@nite-owl4689I also think they are talking about how people cheat on tests and stuff and get guilt tripped to do things they don’t want to do for extra credit and stuff. And teachers being mean because they can.
‘This Day Aria’ is still another one of my favorites Edit: How is this the comment that gets me thousands of likes 😂! I’m glad you all agree with me though.
"MLP is for kids." -Peer pressure -Guilt-tripping/Manipulation -Childhood trauma -examples of AvPD and OCD -Using violence instead of reason -Slavery -Using people for your own benefit (There's probably more that I missed but this is what I can remember)
I just love when cartoons for kids are actually making villians understandable instead of "I wanna destroy the world cause I have a bad day" we have "I just wanna eat to stay alive" or "I just wanna be normal again".That is something that every villian should have
I personally think the problems in MLP are really real well thought out. I mean sure, the solution is “friendship” all the time, but the problems itself are really good. Like protecting nature, peer pressure, perfectionist…etc
I learned a lot from mlp- like help. I don't lie often, I learned to be kind and as generous as I can make myself, loyal to my bsf. Honestly a lot of my friends talk about each other behind their backs, I dislike it. My one bsf all the way I laugh at whatever I can, it honestly feels good- but screw magic. It's not like people have the power of MAGIC ✨ So I mean yeah, I learned a lot. I'm a better person for watching this child's show. DANG that was a cringey paragraph
@deal-with-it. Im watching it rn I'm 12 turning 13 this year, I am learning stuff from it, I provably learnt a bit as a kid but I didn't watch it enough
I love "This Day Aria," partly because Queen Chrysalis is my favorite MLP villain. But I also think I love it because of the sharp contrast between Chrysalis and Cadance's parts. Switching from a selfish and cruel imposter to a loving and disheartened princess makes them feel even more evil or good than they might all on their own.
They hit DIFFERENT because FOUR of the FIVE were movies. AND the #2 slot was "This Day Aria"... which HONESTLY, was a HUGE turning point for the show. It became MORE than just funny bits and friendship problems. It BECAME the Friendship Is Magic that we all know and love.
I don’t think thats true at all tho, Luna and Celestia’s tail is probs one of the more relatable ones in My Little Pony and a very ‘realistic’ theme. Night Mare moon had good motivations for what she did and wasn’t a very childish villain either.
Like "This day aria" was a special, with parts. Basically anything that was a special or movie had super good music. "Our town" in the special, "Cutie Map" was a really good one too. I think any show that is suppose to be a BIG change in the fandom is treated with LOTS of effort and I LOVE that!
this day aria is a legend, i still sing it every now and then. as a kid i was terrified for candice bc the ending of the song literally sang “oh the wedding we wont make” and proceeded to show the big sclera of the bad candice (the name isnt ringing right now lmao), and i think thats where a part of my anxiety awoke aldkslkdkd. sounds bad but after a few years, i have grown to love musicals and this one is the first few i knew, so i appreciate it very much as an art now!
These are all so so deep. Unleash the magic: Sadly our world does not see the peer pressure people have to endure. But once they commit a crime, the whole world goes against them. This song gives a perfect message to understand the dangers of peer pressure and what it could do to a person. We must learn how to HELP these people and not leave them to pressure. Everfree: One word. Addiction. Gloriosa is the type of person who wouldn't want to open up to anyone to make everyone feel safe and happy. However, this can only continue to a certain point. As her problems continued to increase, it got harder for her to continuously smile. She started using magic to overcome her problems and make them feel like a feather. "Trust me, this is for your own good. Don't be afraid. Nature is our friend." Today we all have these "SAY NO TO DRUG" signs everywhere. But do they show these people what they could do? How they can help? If they are willing to help? No. Because society does NOT care about any of us. They just put up this sign, thinking it would help these people. They do not go deeper than that. I believe this is the message of this song. Open up your eyes: Tempest has a really really good point here. She shows how the real world does not work with all “friendship, magic, and cute stories”. This song is merely referencing to our real-world events, teaching us to stand our ground and how we have to be INDEPENDENT. It shows how not everyone in this world is all trustable and that there is a betrayal laid out like a trap. That’s exactly why we have to OPEN our eyes and stop DEPENDING on people. This day Aira: Manipulation. This shows how it can grow into something disgusting when you want something deeply. We may call Chrysalis a villain for trapping Cadence etc, but this is something that we all have done once in our lifetime. Or, this is basically your typical average middle school girl who is doing whatever it takes to steal your boyfriend, lol. Battle of the Bands: This song shows the constant competition we have in our lives. This includes social media, politics, and even religion. If you realize, replying to someone with simple negativity is super normalized in our generation. We don't know each other, but to prove our points, we EAT ourselves up!
Tempest's song was also really foreshadowing with the part that you cant trust everyone. She trusted the Storm King to restore her horn. Yet he betrayed her and tried to kill her.
The “unleash the magic” chorus is the scariest children’s song verse I’ve ever seen Edit: by scary I mean -as someone replied - it’s supposed to be scary in a sense that can make you feel your sins crawl down your back. Which is what makes it scary. But this is just my opinion.
Unleash the magic, unleash the magic If we lose, then you're to blame They all have used it, maybe abused it So then why can't we do the same? Unleash the magic, unleash the magic We're not friends here after all Our only interest in this business Is seeing Canterlot High School fall Spooky
"It's up to you to NOT FAIL this time!!" I really heard the peer pressure other students were putting Twilight and I love that part of the song and they said like "to NOT. FAIL. THIS. TIME" They were so specific in that line
I remember how "Unleash the magic" made me burst out laughing the first time, because it was such a sudden villain song coming from people who spend the whole movie going "we're not the bad guys, they are." Sure, like the good guys suddenly burst in daunting, synchronised chorus.
@@SkSkNutella I think i did the same thing but _oddly_ because i know what was gonna happened and was like “Oh no she's gonna messed up this, IT'S TOO EMBARASSING-”
@@jacklyntree7752literally, the storyline in the equestria girls movies is awesome. Especially this one (i forgot the name) and the character design is *chefs kiss* Edit: friendship games
I definitely agree with Open Up Your Eyes. It's the one i have experienced personally and when I first heard it. I didn't see her as the villain anymore. She literally did everything she did to be returned to normal so she could be accepted and be a part of her people again cause they rejected her simply for being different. And even in that she was used and abused. She was seen as a tool.
This day Aira is definitely the best of these in my opinion, because it provides excellent contrast between Chrysalis and Cadance, and it's also dramatic as heck
I never realized just how good they were at singing! This is like broadway type music, and the singers have a lot of emotion; casting for this show definitely wasn't half-assed lol
I mean they pretty much got a lot of big name actors to just be on the show at one point or another over the years. Show took itself quite seriously for a cartoon even when given a big benefit of the doubt.
I think my favorite part about "We will stand for Everfree" is the double meaning of the chorus! It can be read eather as "We will stand for Everfree", so for the camp which is named "Everfree", or it can be read as "We will stand, forever free", as in standing your ground and becoming free for eternity, which is what Gloriosa believed to gain from isolating the camp. It's really smart lyric writing!
Whoever is doing the backing vocals/"ah-ah"s in the backgrounds of all the sirens' songs is a legend they're so quiet but they're high key my favorite thing to listen for
the higher pitch one is Aria and slightly lower is Sonata, both amazing of course and their voices together are amazing, I'd say you mainly hear aria to be fair, hope this helps!! Btw: If you search up 'battle of the bands just aria and sonata' you will have just the 'ah ah' parts really :))
@@royalty6073 wait what- and here ive been thinking that aria had the lower pitched voice bc of her speaking voice, ig not. welp my crush on her still lingers
@@mlpsecrets7931 Cadance’s voiceacter (sorry, I don’t know who right off the top of my head) DEFINITELY bumps it up, I totally agree. I love the lyrics too, but the contrast between the characters is definitely the stronger element
I always thought that “friendship” is always used for good, but after Cozy glow said “Friendship isn’t magic, *ITS POWER* ” because it’s true, friendship is power. Wanna know how many powerful beings they defeated with friendship? Plus, who said friendship can’t be bad either. “Why pretend we’re all the same, when some of us shine brighter!” Is also very true.
idk why but when i was like 7y/o, all the lines in that Chrysalis says "mine", or she talks of shining armor in a posesive way, always made me feel nervous and uncomfortable, the way she treats and talks about him like and object without importance, since at the same time she is so posesive, always scared me when i was a kid, and made me realize how scary and horrible is to think as someone like your property. even when i was young, i realized that being in that kind of relationship was horrifiyng and unwishable. So basicly this song saved me from end in a toxic relationship 💀✌ also sorry for my bad write, my first languaje isn't english🤡
I'm kinda shocked "Our Town" wasn't on here. That song is... haunting. It's just so happy and upbeat, but the subtext is absolutely horrifying. A cult hiding in plain sight, trying to manipulate as many people as possible into accepting their twisted designs.
@@abigaildiamante9096 "... In Our Town, in Our Town / We don't complicate / When you learn to simplify / Life is oh, so great..." Starlight's town was entirely about the death of the self, conformity, and blind obedience. Brainwashing and manipulation to a horrifying, unnerving degree. And I'm sorry, but when someone calls their small community a "utopia" I get a little nervous. Scariest part, things like that *happen in real life.* More than you could possibly imagine.
I remember watching the episodes when I was little, with the 'This Day Aria' plot, and I was in a constant state of shock and awe---Friendship is Magic, but what happens when none of your friends believe you?
....I didn't even notice that- I mean yes I saw the lesson to never doubt yourself even when nobody else believes in you but in that stand point I didn't even think of it that way
Everyone assumed Twilight was just fussing about her brother. But like...Man I remember watching that premier and being right there with twilight understanding the head spinning filling of "but..but?? Aren't we supposed to trust each other??"
This Day just really hits different for me. Imagine singing the good side and the evil side with the same voice yet making it seem like they were completely two different people
it's still odd that people consider MLP to only be for little girls when songs like these exist. Unleash the magic- manipulation and peer pressure We Will Stand for Everfree- fighting high corporations/the rich Open Up Your Eyes- childhood trauma This Day Aria- forcing someone to love you when you have no desire for them other than to benefit you and other people Battle of The Bands- slavery and even sounds outside these 5, there's a lot of deep and real world problems in MLP that people overlook simply because of all the bright colors and magic themes. the first episode was literally about brining darkness for eternity, freezing temps, plant life would wither, possibility's of hitting comets or meteors, basically doomsday. there's more to MLP than just friendship and magic, it's filled to the brim with lots of very serious topics and it does it in such a way that kids and even adults will understand.
For the most part I agree with your assessment about what topics each villain song covers, but for Battle of the Bands I'd say it was more about unhealthy competitiveness/losing the spirit of competition rather than slavery. Yes, the goal of the Dazzlings was to enslave the high schoolers, but the moral of the overall movie and the Battle of the Bands song was that competition can create an unhealthy environment under the wrong circumstances so we shouldn't lose sight of the true spirit of competition.
@@ScytheCurie I could unstand that, I just mostly saw it as slavery considering it wasn't of freewill and it was directlt serving to the Dazzlings is all
Honestly, Gloriosa, even though she's a villain, is truly very kind, the only reason she turned evil was because she got got corrupted while trying to do the right thing I know Everfree wasn't all the popular but I actually enjoyed it! :]
Honestly to me she isn't the villain since she was just trying to protect everyone from rich so basically that rich guy whatsoever is the villain cuz "everfree" is the entire thing that made this movie happen so he's the villain
This day Aria is honestly the best My Little Pony villain song in my opinion. The two different sides and the rhythm, I listen to that song on repeat everytime, I have it stuck in my head. Nothing beats the song, plus, it's also calming. Chrysalis and Princess Cadence both have beautiful singing voices.
The most iconic songs from rainbow rocks; " under out spell" " welcome to the show" "Tricks up my sleeve" Also can we all agree that even though we barely got to hear "tricks up my sleeve", that it was AMAZING??
Honestly I think mlp has so many great songs. They're one of the reasons why I loved the show so much as a child. I dont really know about the the more recent seasons and songs bc I stopped keeping up at some point but I think the show was always pretty strong in terms of music even with the more silly little songs
@@randomname7269 both of them are absolutely amazing, but this day aria is what i prefer because 1. its my childhood so i feel nostalgic and 2. i am soooo in love with how the singing changes quite visible when the singer changes from Chrysalis to Cadence!
In my humble opinion, Open Up Your Eyes is the best out of all these. I'm definitely biased because me and Tempest hold the same level of 'wow people are kinda shit' trauma but also, the cinematography and the way she sings
Some of these remind me of those Disney movies that were dark as fuck that we didn't get how dark it actually was as a kid but when we grow up we get it. More so 'we will stand for everfree' and 'open your eyes' legit huge Disney vibes
I had no idea that "open up your eyes" was from MLP, even though I was in the fandom for so long- I recently watched a warrior cats MAP that used this song, and it was absolutely immaculate. They had a separate voice-acting part in the beginning and the end, but it was still super good-
I always thought during "We will stand for Everfree" of the words being slightly changed. "We...Will... Stand! Forever free." This was more ironic to me since she is closing people in instead of 'freeing' them. LOVE the playlist btw! These songs do hit good.
Under Our Spell is the actual villain song, and while I like the track Battle of the Bands slightly better it's what it says on the tin: the climactic battle, tho the villain parts are excellent! Anyway great choice for compilation! If you made a sequel, I would consider "Better Way to be Bad"; it too hits uniquely. It's almost like a friendship song for bad guys, who distrust and misunderstand friendship, while accidentally flirting dangerously close to it. [cue Wreck-It Ralph meme]
Your point of view unleash the magic: you've always wanted endless knowledge stand forever free: you saved your home by force. open up your eyes: you had terrible friends in the past this day aria: you love your husband but someone loves him for power. battle of bands: you like to turn people against each other.
Camp is so iconic. The sounds in her voice and vocals are so demonically powerful and beautiful. “FOR EVERFREE FOR EVERMOREE!” And “LET THEM COME, NOW LET THEM TRY!” WE FR “WILL STAND FOR EVERFREE!” 🥰😍
Okay but MLP Rainbow Rocks in my opinion has the best songs ever! Like literally, the three main antagonists' songs were so soothing and hypnotizing everytime. Even the main characters, their tunes were so catchy there. Definately my favorite MLP movie
@@imatcpell1987 It's a spin-off from a franchise literally named Friendship is Magic lol. Of course the magic of friendship's gonna win. What did you expect?
Im a teenage boy and MLP (the original one not the new one) hits. I miss watching it as a kid. Although when I was younger I didn’t realize how dark it gets bc I was young and all I payed attention to was the cool ponys and all the magic stuff
I watched the Equestria Girls movies when they were added to Netflix and forgot about them, but We Will Stand For Everfree got stuck in my head on regular basis even years after and I had no idea what it was from until I decided to rewatch all of them lmao
I think why these songs slap so hard is because it's the first time we've heard (most of) these characters sing, as well as the fact that villain songs scratch some sort of itch and it's such a different vibe that hero songs don't become sinister enough to match
Plus, most media won't show the villains side. Do they know they're the villain? What are their motivations? Are they actually willing to do these actions? Are they being manipulated? Each villain has similar motives in Mlp:FIM, but they all have different reasons for doing so.
Battle of the Bands was the song that awakened my mlp phase. Then when I heard Open up your Eyes, nothing can beat the classics, but it *defiantly* is one of my favs
What i think these songs mean: Unleash the magic: manipulation. Peer pressure/guilt trips to make u do something. Guilt in general. Wanting something that you know is wrong. That others will make u have. Knowing they will get what they want. And just using you. We Will Stand For EverFree: over protectiveness. In a hurtful way. Manipulation. Financial issues. captivity. Emotional problems. Or over attached to things that u care for. That soon get taken Open up your eyes: childhood trauma. Being left out. Being the odd one out. Being tuff to protect yourself. And not get hurt by others. By putting up a bar so your not vulnerable to others. This day Aria: Manipulation Towards others to get what you want. Acting. Being well at pretending. Maybe getting someone taken from u by someone else that's manipulative. Getting with someone even tho you don't care for them. Just for your own personal gain. Battle of the bands: Manipulation and slavery against other by turning others against one another. To get what you want for your own gain. Greed. Peer pressure. Fake compliments to make people get on your side. Fighting against one another.
Battle of The Bands is not about slavery, I do not know where anyone got that from that is so off the target I expected it to be satire. It's about manipulation 🤦♂️. In the song, they start off complimenting everyone to build up trust and merit so when they eventually branch off and feed them droplets of disharmony, it's seen as something out of goodwill. It's meant to be played off as something like a friendly competition but the thing about 'friendly competition' is that generally it's testing both of the participants skills, not trying to see who is better. While the Sirens most certainly wanted to control the ponies, the **SONG** is not about slavery. My God, people, think. 😑
I personally get to vibes from unleash the magic: 1. Educating the masses and toppling people in power 2. Being peer pressured/manipulated into manipulating others
" Unleash the magic, unleash the magic. If we lose, then you're to blame. Unleash the magic, unleash the magic. They all have used it, maybe abused it. So why can't we do the *same?* " These lyrics hit hard than when i stub my toe
I personally have never understood the bad wrap that Chrysalis got. She was trying to help her hive. As she says in her song “No I don’t care for the groom in my heart there’s just no room” she has no room because she needs to keep her hive going and the only way she can do that that she knows of is to have her subjects eat of other’s love. If somebody had took the time to explain to her another option she wouldn’t have turned out the way she did.
Yes that makes a lot of sense. But I feel it all depends on the perspective that you look at. I agree about what you said about chrysalis trying to protect her hive. But from the perspective of the ponies they see them as monsters who want to ruin their town for no apparent reason. And this is what they thought until they saw spike with one of chrysalis' kind they were all like "get away from him" etc but like yeah I agree with you
So... Chrysalis I both love and it's a bit of a huh. We know now that the changelings had the ability to help themselves...but I wonder if something in the distant past changed that perception so Chrysalis had the perception to run the hive the way she did
Even though one of her subjects found a more sustainable solution, she basically told him to stfu even though it would make her subjects lives a lot better
Like- why couldn’t the main 6 just have wait a bit??? Besties I don’t care if they’re trying to take over the world, their songs are killer. Literally.
Open Up Your Eyes is basically tempest telling twilight that life is not always glitter and magic... it reminds me of like all those people who had to learn that at a young age because the world messed them up :(
From G1: "Family" from "The End of Flutter Valley Part II": I have issues with the story itself, but I love the apparent shout-out to Gilbert and Sullivan's _Ruddigore_ as the portraits of Hydia's deceased relatives step down from their frames. "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" from "The Ghost of Paradise Estate Part III". Squirk is reveling in his cruelty. "Inventing Is Such Fun" from "The Great Rainbow Caper". C. S. Lewis called losing sight of the end in the means "the subtlest of all snares."
Literally, most of the villains had decent reasons to do what they did. 3 out of 5 of these villains had reasons to do those things. We will stand for everfree: She didn’t want her camp that she had made happy memories of and took care of for most of her life to be ripped out of her hands by some greedy businessman who knows nothing. Open up your eyes: She got manipulated into thinking that storm shit would give her back her horn, he took advantage of her trauma. He knew she would desperately do anything for her horn, she just wanted to fit in. She thought that she was an outcast and a freak because of something she couldn’t control. This day Aria: Queen chrysalis had a kingdom to care for, the changlings had to feed off love to survive. Her people whom she literally gave birth to. They were dying of starvation, she couldn’t watch just them slowly die, so she did what she had to do to keep them and her alive, feed off the princess of love’s husband and the kingdom, yeah that wasn’t exactly the correct thing to do. But think in her perspective, her kingdom and her were living in bad conditions and couldn’t find food no matter where they looked, you and the people of your kingdom whom you literally gave birth to are literally slowly and painfully dying of starvation and have nearly no choice but to feed off another kingdom’s love to survive. Remember that one line in 9:23 where she has no room, her top priority is her kingdom, her children. When thorax does the sharing love thing, she feels hurt and betrayed. She has done so much for him she had fought hoof and horn just to feed him and he betrays her kind of, when starlight tries to give her a second chance. She feel angry and betrayed.
I've always loved Battle Of The Bands and This Day Aria every since I first heard them, I clicked on this video just to make sure they were included as they should be. But I'm disappointed that Under Our Spell wasn't included because as much as I like Battle Of The Bands I think it was better.
Never watched MLP, but was hearing 'unleash the magic' and thinking 'i'd heard something similar before.... AND HOLLY SHIT, IT'S THE CELLBLOCK TANGO!!!!
I remember watching the Wedding arc and I was actually shocked when This Day Aria played and I was on the edge of my seat as a kid. And I had nightmares later on about this arc xD Battle of the Bands made me jam so hard tho
K-pop (My current entertainment) and MLP (My childhood entertainment) have this one thing in common... they both discuss deep and sad truths about various topics which are covered outwardly by magical, cute or fun themes.
MLP: FiM had some of the best discography out of many TV series and cartoons. As someone that loves cartoons, I've never heard music quite like the music of this series. It's really hard to find a song you dislike in the series alone. This is my personal opinion- villain songs are some of the shows's best songs. They add that wonderful taste of drama and suspense that makes MLP unique to other shows. :) Edited to correct a few mistakes. :P
My opinions: -Unleash the magic: I like the music and the words, especially because it talks about a serious them, which is manipulation and peer pressure, when I was kid, I loved it and now I understand why, I Iove songs with dark themes! I may not like EG Twilight but I can understand her! We will stand for everfree: I like the double sense of it, when Gloriosa says she wants free them but actually she trapped them with her power, the music is so calm but even glorious, I like it, Gloriosa remembers me a lot those villain who does bad things for a good and emotional reason (she wants to making everyone enjoying and save her camp because it was from her parents). -Open up your eyes: This songs talks about fake friendship etc.etc, I can relate a LOT with Tempest, even if I didn't watch the film. -This Day Aria: I like the duet with the fake Candence ( I forgot her name, help) and the real one, showing the two part of the story and the feeling they have from the groom, I love the meaning so dark and realistic of this song, since there are ppl who wants to marry you, because they can win something. -Battle of the bands: I love the Dazzling and ther songs (especially 'Under our spell'), they also a very good and manipulative villains, who wants to make people against each other for their profit and me, who actually likes villains than heroes, well, you can tell I went crazy for them! Their designs, the concept, their songs, EVERYTHING!
“Unleash the Magic” gives me a very specific feeling. At my school, we have teams where they compete nationally to represent our district and recruitment literally feels like this. “Represent our school well!” “Don’t you want us to be seen as a good school?” “If you don’t join, then you’re part of the problem.” “You’re smart, use that knowledge for something good.” “Don’t disappoint us.”
honestly all dazzlings songs are SO GOOD i think i love “welcome to the show” the most. but i agree this list for “open up your eyes” (i got goosebumps every time i hear it and i relate to the song a lot) and “this day aria” which is an ICONIC song i grew up with (this song literally made me rewatch the whole princess cadence marriage arc of mlp)
You're right, these songs really do hit different. I just woke up and am sitting in my room listening and singing to this while the sound is at 46 rn. ;v;

“MLP is for little girls, grow up!”
The villains are a pure example of some actual troubles.

The Dazzlings were the only ones who actually deserved it
@@relaxedcloud yeah but their part of welcome to the show was so much better than the rainbooms part even when Sunset joined in
MLP literally had a whole episode about a cult (I think it was The Cutie Map). This show is definitely not just for "little girls"
Midnight sparkle and gloriosa go even deeper with their themes.
Midnight was coerced into doing that in order to keep the reputation of her school, which would lead to her graduating as top student from a well respected high school. That would greatly improve her chances at further higher education and job prospects
Gloriosa wasn't just about to lose something, she was about to lose something due to capitalism.

I agree, “This Day Aria,” was and is iconic. I’m pretty sure most MLP fans still love/enjoy this song.

The guilt tripping, peer pressure, and trying to get Twilight to take on the all of the responsibility for the games is so accurate to nowadays high schools.
Could you elaborate on that please? I'm not hating or anything like that I'm just curious
@@xPearlz yes, thats what i meant.

Nature is our friend."
Today we all have these "SAY NO TO DRUG" signs everywhere.
I agree with you on all points. I do like how villain songs point out the problems of reality. The darkness shows the truth that the light hides.
Tempest's song was also really foreshadowing with the part that you cant trust everyone. She trusted the Storm King to restore her horn. Yet he betrayed her and tried to kill her.
Unleash the Magic has A LOT of Poor Unfortunate Souls vibes from The Little Mermaid.

Unleash the magic- manipulation and peer pressure
We Will Stand for Everfree- fighting high corporations/the rich
Open Up Your Eyes- childhood trauma
This Day Aria- forcing someone to love you when you have no desire for them other than to benefit you and other people
Battle of The Bands- slavery
and even sounds outside these 5, there's a lot of deep and real world problems in MLP that people overlook simply because of all the bright colors and magic themes. the first episode was literally about brining darkness for eternity, freezing temps, plant life would wither, possibility's of hitting comets or meteors, basically doomsday. there's more to MLP than just friendship and magic, it's filled to the brim with lots of very serious topics and it does it in such a way that kids and even adults will understand.
For the most part I agree with your assessment about what topics each villain song covers, but for Battle of the Bands I'd say it was more about unhealthy competitiveness/losing the spirit of competition rather than slavery. "We...Will... Stand! Forever free." This was more ironic to me since she is closing people in instead of 'freeing' them.
LOVE the playlist btw! These songs do hit good.
Ohh the slight change is actually nice
I think they named it Everfree to use it later as Everfree and ALSO say Forever Free. Like a double meaning. Actually pretty smart!
@@stellawizarstudio3622
Exactlllyyy! It's a really cool double-meaning song. :3
ooooooh thats super interesting! i wonder if thsi double interpretation was intentional
I thought the same!

I agree but if a song is sung by an unredeemed villain then it still counts.
wait isnt welcome to the show also the villain song?
idk why but i feel like "Better Way to be Bad" is underrated..
Better Way to Be Bad WAS SO GOOD THO????
@@TDArulesclub4 I AGREE BUT ??? IDK IF IT EXACTLY *HIT DIFFERENT* THO
It's not until you are older you realise that the villains had actual motives to be the way they were.
Ok but Cadance's voice is angelic.
Your point of view
unleash the magic: you've always wanted endless knowledge
stand forever free: you saved your home by force.
open up your eyes: you had terrible friends in the past
this day aria: you love your husband but someone loves him for power.
battle of bands: you like to turn people against each other.
How about This day Aria?
@@arielnatalene3006 This Day Aria is basically u deciding that if u really love or don’t love ur crush

I loved mlp for everyting it holds.. Story, characters, magic, everything.
They used a musical string called a ‘False Cadence’ in This Day Aria
@@misteridiot NO WAY, REALLY? THAT'S SUCH A COOL DETAIL 😲
Fun fact! The principal in “Unlease The Magic” hisses her S because she’s a snake!
XD
LOL
A manipulator. . . Yeah i can see it
Okay but MLP Rainbow Rocks in my opinion has the best songs ever! Like literally, the three main antagonists' songs were so soothing and hypnotizing everytime. Even the main characters, their tunes were so catchy there. Definately my favorite MLP movie
How did they lose??? It was literally my favorite part i watched it A LOT
@@imatcpell1987 cause the friendship of magic

Such is the effect of sirens :)
@@imatcpell1987 It's a spin-off from a franchise literally named Friendship is Magic lol. Of course the magic of friendship's gonna win. What did you expect?
Im a teenage boy and MLP (the original one not the new one) hits. I miss watching it as a kid. Although when I was younger I didn’t realize how dark it gets bc I was young and all I payed attention to was the cool ponys and all the magic stuff
i started watching it with my sister and i have to say after finishing it, it seriously has had such a big impact in my life.
"This Day Aria" gives the perfect vibe. so terrible yet amazing
Battle of the Bands was the song that awakened my mlp phase. Then when I heard Open up your Eyes, nothing can beat the classics, but it *defiantly* is one of my favs
What i think these songs mean:
Unleash the magic: manipulation.
That soon get taken
Open up your eyes: childhood trauma.
Wait, people think that it's about slavery? I haven't seen anyone ever menitioning slavery but it's pretty stupid that some people think that.
@@unidentifiedwalkingperson yeah I just saw one lol
@@unidentifiedwalkingperson yeah the comment explaining all 5 songs
thank god somebody said it, thanks
Sir if this is yur opinion, then don't b pushy 😑
I personally get to vibes from unleash the magic:
1. Educating the masses and toppling people in power
2. Being peer pressured/manipulated into manipulating others
" Unleash the magic, unleash the magic. If we lose, then you're to blame.
Unleash the magic, unleash the magic. They all have used it, maybe abused it.
So why can't we do the *same?* "
These lyrics hit hard than when i stub my toe
I accidentally read that without the "than" and was trying desperately to figure out what you meant xD
@@Icantchangemyhandlehelp hahahahha
Plus the whole chanting in the background really gives it an intimidating feeling
And this is what they thought until they saw spike with one of chrysalis' kind they were all like "get away from him" etc but like yeah I agree with you
Yeah too bad when she had the chance she believed the solution to be an disease rather than the cure claiming it "infected" her hive
Shes my favorite villain🥹
Everything the Dazzlings have sung was amazing to me. Like "battle of the bands" "welcome to the show", I just cant get over that group
Like- why couldn’t the main 6 just have wait a bit??? Besties I don’t care if they’re trying to take over the world, their songs are killer. Literally.
@@stragic-tragic9745 same I’d let them take over the world, if it means I get to listen to these bangers
Ikr like idc they're villains imma let them take over as kids were all like STOP IT YOUR EVIL! but now that I'm older I'm like nice as long as u sing
I loved them more than the main 6’s band. I just have always had a thing for villains, but that is just me.
The sirens hit different than everyone else. But I'd argue that their best song is actually Welcome to the Show.
@Kira *evil laugh* just look in UA-cam and u can find a clean version, is perfect and *chef kiss*
Yep. Welcome to the show is one of the best
They had another one I forgot the name but some of the lyrics are "the days go 'round and 'round and 'round let's find the magic" it had a nice melody
Under our spell is honestly the best
Making villain songs is probably one of the best jobs you could have in a children's show.
I just realized that in “We will stand for Everfree” can be taken two ways,
1. “We will stand for Everfree!”
2. “We will stand forever free!”
as a child i loved this
as someone old enough to recognize the beauty of these songs im stunned... honestly mlp was an incredible show...
The ‘This day aria’ is a freaking classic and everyone knows it. Why are mlp songs such bangers?
Damn when we were kids we adored the heros but as we grow up we understand the villain more..
Open Up Your Eyes is basically tempest telling twilight that life is not always glitter and magic... it reminds me of like all those people who had to learn that at a young age because the world messed them up :(
We Will Stand For Everfree and Unleash The Magic are some top tier MLP songs for me. 🙌
no fr. i agree
FR FR ✋😎
From G1:
"Family" from "The End of Flutter Valley Part II": I have issues with the story itself, but I love the apparent shout-out to Gilbert and Sullivan's _Ruddigore_ as the portraits of Hydia's deceased relatives step down from their frames.
REAL!!
Unleash The Magic and Open Up Your Eyes hit way too hard for songs for an animated show about talking ponies
True
You have no idea how much I was obsessed with *This Day Aria* when I was 9, I would simply just sing it with an instrumental in the background 😂
Literally, most of the villains had decent reasons to do what they did. 3 out of 5 of these villains had reasons to do those things.
We will stand for everfree:
She didn’t want her camp that she had made happy memories of and took care of for most of her life to be ripped out of her hands by some greedy businessman who knows nothing.
Open up your eyes:
She got manipulated into thinking that storm shit would give her back her horn, he took advantage of her trauma. He knew she would desperately do anything for her horn, she just wanted to fit in. She thought that she was an outcast and a freak because of something she couldn’t control.
This day Aria:
Queen chrysalis had a kingdom to care for, the changlings had to feed off love to survive.

The fact 3/5 of these songs are from EG shows just how underrated the soundtrack for that spinoff is.
And I had nightmares later on about this arc xD
Battle of the Bands made me jam so hard tho
K-pop (My current entertainment) and MLP (My childhood entertainment) have this one thing in common... they both discuss deep and sad truths about various topics which are covered outwardly by magical, cute or fun themes.
It's always villain songs that hit that itch. They're just different...so wonderfully different.
Mlp's villain songs are HIGHKEY better than the hero songs. They feel far more relatable as you get older
These villian songs have so much potential and meaning that we understand, this makes them so much more better❤
Edited to correct a few mistakes. :P
My opinions:
-Unleash the magic: I like the music and the words, especially because it talks about a serious them, which is manipulation and peer pressure, when I was kid, I loved it and now I understand why, I Iove songs with dark themes!
Their designs, the concept, their songs, EVERYTHING!
the evil Cadance's name was Chrysalis btw
@@loudleaf3330 Thanks!

Ok but isn't Gloriana kinda like a helicopter parent or Mother Gothenburg? (I know those are complete opposites but they both kinda work)
Fake Candace and the Real One sounds like a pop-punk band. Or maybe opera metal.
*THESE HIT SO HARD- OMGGGG*
edit: open up your eyes really made me, open up my eyes. I realized I kin her more than humanly possible
This Day Aria to this day remains one of my all time favorite villain songs, after watching it for the first time 9 years ago
I HAVEN'T HEARD BATTLE OF THE BANDS IN SUCH A LONG TIME.
honestly all dazzlings songs are SO GOOD i think i love “welcome to the show” the most. but i agree this list for “open up your eyes” (i got goosebumps every time i hear it and i relate to the song a lot) and “this day aria” which is an ICONIC song i grew up with (this song literally made me rewatch the whole princess cadence marriage arc of mlp)
You're right, these songs really do hit different. I just woke up and am sitting in my room listening and singing to this while the sound is at 46 rn. ;v;
