From the little bit I saw of this guy on ESPN, I thought he was just some rich dad's son and a cool-guy wannabe. But boy was I wrong. This guy knows his stuff and he's on top of things.
In America, the trend seems to be to put that tax money into the military and to support big companies. By supporting the ones that are well off, it's supposed to help everyone through some "trickle-down" effect, but it doesn't work.
Taxes aren't patriotic. Starting a business that employs people and causes economic growth is patriotic. If taxes are patriotic then unaccountable runaway spending and welfare dependency is also patriotic. I believe in survival of the fittest. One of the unique things about the founding of our nation was the notion that everyone has the freedom to make their own life. That means if you work hard you succeed and if you don't you fail. Some people fail, that's just how it works.
Mark's wrong about the Google acquiring UA-cam thing. They did it for the users that were already on UA-cam. Like heck, look at Google Plus right now, it sucks, because there's no one on there, everybody is on Facebook. They tried to do their thing late in the game and now they're having a hard time. Whereas, if they bought Facebook years ago, Google would become an even larger giant than they are today.
Example doesn't really fit because google plus came after facebook. Google video was really one of the first major video sites. They were around even before UA-cam. They just dropped the ball with their site design and lack of social component.
My knowledge on Cuban is not expansive - but this idea of deleting or doing away with patents is a radical idea - I think he feels this strong about patents because he/ or his 'investments'/companies he over sees are negatively impacted by patents controlled by others - not himself.
It's easy to believe in survival of the fittest if you have a good background and ample chances at success in your life. It's not as easy if you're born in a poor family with little to no money to spend on your education and such. Understanding that people have different backgrounds and starting points is called empathy. My thesis is that only through leveling the playing field through tax-funded welfare can we really say that everyone has an equal chance at success. That's not runaway spending.
i like cuban a lot, but i do see why many people think he's a bit nuts. delete patents? whats the point of starting a new product then? someone with money will just outcompete you and your entire investment will be lost. or, someone within the company will just steal the idea before its complete.
Yes, there is debt, but US has debt all the same. And if you need funding.. just raise taxes! Americans are already paying taxes, but it's just a difference of where you put those tax pennies. We turn them into health care and education and give them back to the people.
okay there are several factors you have to consider:,where the hell do they get the large portion of funding from? especially with the low tax rate (compared to europe) not to mention they *Americans* dont even have a basic social welfare like universal healthcare, how the hell do you expect they can afford the immense funding to support a leveled eduacation.Eduacation is costly and can easily put the nation in jeopardy (debt). how many European countries are not in heavy debt right now?
19:15 - That's the same reason a normal guy like me is unwilling to give away 35% of what I have to the Govenrment because I have kids too, and I care about my kids more than I care about someone else's kid. And if Cuban isn't willing to give away 50%, which is still 100,000 times more than what I'll ever have in my entire life, then what about my 35% chop off the top.
First of all, the word you're looking for is socialism, not communism. Secondly, why is that automatically a bad thing? The system I just described is widely in use in the Continental Europe, and it's worked pretty well so far. I'm from Finland myself, and we've got a well working school system and free health care, and still we can make profitable businesses . But yeah, it's easier to just stamp everything different as "communism" and work too jobs to pay for your kids college fees I guess.
Yeah, when he was young. He isn't really making a living off of it. He made it really big through starting and selling a company, not the pyramid scheme. If he made it huge off of the pyramid scheme then I too would not be sold on his moral character.
lol chill buddy. I come from a family that does well now too...but my dad came from nearly poverty. Had to pick himself up when he was a young kid, work, support himself, and get through school. Thats why I believe anyone can do something if they really try and put the effort into the right things for them. Besides, even if the govt taxed the wealthy more...by the time they are through with the money..the people who supposedly need it to level the field wont even get it.
Can you elaborate? Please? Because as I just said, this system is currently in use and working in many countries in Europe. We are doing fine over here, so what's the problem? It's not utopian if it's being used right now! Hello? Things are good here Mr America! :D
Many of the richest people in the world have come from next to nothing. Look it up if you dont believe me. "levelling" the playing field is just an excuse for the people out there who are unhappy and jealous that they dont know how to do what the "rich" are doing. Besides, nothing in life is equal and fair. We all learn that in elementary school. Its survival of the fittest and trying to win. Period.
So you can say that capitalism is why UA-cam is here, but socialism guarantees that everyone here has access to UA-cam or can afford some type of internet connection (be it in a web-cafe or at a library or at home). We make sure no-one is left behind, or at least do our best. I love paying my taxes to help out the one's that are in need (single moms, laid off employees, disabled people etc.)
Well it would if you gave it a chance. Not my fault if the public is too hellbent on hating socialism to see what's good for them. The hardest part about being a good politician is making the right choices even when they aren't the easiest choices. And doing this does not necessarily even mean raising taxes.. just re-evaluating the things the tax-money is spent on. Do you need missiles or medicine? Bonuses for company executives or social security for the poor?
from a technical standpoint, sure, but youtube already had a ton of traction which is hard to compete against. Just look at the failure that was google+ social networking. Bet google would've loved to buy facebook in its infancy. Sometimes its a smart move. UA-cam is such a case .
Don't abolish patents, just streamline the process. Why do so many people feel the need to side with EITHER capitalism OR socialism/government regulation?? The two can compliment one another beautifully if they are integrated in such a way as to maximize the socioeconomic status of as many people as possible. To have such a one-sided view (for either end of the spectrum) is to favor exhaling over inhaling, or vice versa...we need both in balance to survive and thrive.
Mark is not a smart businessman. He has passed on investing in multiple companies that ended up being worth more than the yahoo deal he just got lucky on. It wasn't hard work and skill that got him all that, it was pure luck and now he's just making guesses that he ends up being wrong on more times than not.
Im smh hard right now, this is not a monopoly game! you cant just raise taxes in America, you know how much objections from the public there will be, you really have to take into account of the political nature in the states bc it does work like europe. The divsion of tax funding is more complicated than you think, approvals most notably, takes years and requires public consent. You should do more in depth research rather than just stating plain jargon.
Do you prefer socialism or capitalism? Also, you are from Finland - do you currently live there. If you are socialist - you are aware that UA-cam - the portal you a currenlty using is a result of capitalism?!
I've lived my whole life in Finland and I'm still living here. Capitalism and socialism are both a part of our system. Businesses are of course what keeps our economy healthy, but the socialist characteristics are what keep our people healthy.
man honestly I appreciate your view, but a utopian idea like this just doesn't work out, when you step out of your own little closet you will know eventually.
Cuban is wrong. People like real-time tv and they also like video on-demand which is recorded video contents not real-time. He is making a fool of himself. Clearly, he is only speaking out of his personal interests : 1. He says all the bad things about online videos because his business interest is in AXS TV and a tv company is his shareholder. Online videos like UA-cam is not real-time TV but it serves another purpose as important as live tv. Both are important and play different roles. He is right when he said he is bigotted. 2. He wants Patent system demolished because its affecting his business. Again, very selfish point of view. Patent system does have many issues but he cannot offer an improvement to the Patent system and can only suggest that it be scrapped. Overall, i like Mark Cuban more than dislike. He is not perfect as no human is. At least he is being direct and honest.
Is this guy rich and successfull because he can talk and cause a stir or for innovation and entrepreneurship ? I am glad he is successful but I think I would hate to work for him. He comes across as a opinionated prick. He seems to be riding the tiger based on a successful sale to yahoo where yahoo was foolish to give away so much money to him. He has no right to comment on youtube which at least has made it whereas his company to yahoo is not even heard let alone seen.
Out of the whole interview, that's what you took. Why even bother watching this if you are such a sceptic..
Hard working man, well rewarded..
From the little bit I saw of this guy on ESPN, I thought he was just some rich dad's son and a cool-guy wannabe. But boy was I wrong. This guy knows his stuff and he's on top of things.

Cuban says UA-cam is a horrible acquisition!
which he says in this video posted on UA-cam!
Irony!

Check out Cuban in "Major League Entrepreneurs," along with Daniel Snyder (Owner of the Washington Redskins).

The government owns both so I would say this is already done, no?

The Broken Window Fallacy? Seriously Mark? That's disappointing.
LOL he said bulldoze all the foreclosed homes to raise the value on the others. LOLOLOL not so savvy afterall.
he was dead wrong about youtube. It's worth now about ten times what google paid for it.
+Tom Smith I think the point was Google could have just done it themselves and not needed to pay for it.

You obviously have strong opinions, it's just a severe shame that you have no idea what you're talking about when you formulate them.

well that perspective is approaching the way communism works lol
