The pre order rate was low because their sneak peaks were all reprints like Omniscience and Llanowar Elves. They waited to show many of the new cards until Magiccon last weekend, which was right before prerelease week. People were holding out because they didn't know what to expect. Now the hype has started and there is a surge in demand.
MTG Foundations Collector Boxes on Amazon in the UK 🇬🇧 are sitting for pre-order at £302, they are cheaper on Ebay from Italy 🇮🇹 at £213 including shipping.
I was listening to Rudy earlier podcast style, and the whole time, my mind unconsciously was tricking my eyes as if I were actually watching Rudy in his basement with his green screen showing stacked cases of cardboard.
yeah, fun fact, the new foundations collector boxes, are already 337usd here in norway... fun times... fun times indeed... how nice it is to just be a casual player that sometimes wants a few new shiny foil cards having to pay 37usd just for a single collector pack... PS: a box of play boosters, is 190usd here...
This is mostly just a spectator sport for me. Just a dude working a normal job and playing with my cardboard game pieces. Man gives great advice for the people who are smarter than me, who participate in the market stuff. Just enjoy rippin packs wnd making decks. That and the "Folks" at the beginning of every vid.
@@KyleBaran90exactly what I do, whenever I have some spare money (which hasn’t been much recently) I toss it at some sealed product of either Pokémon or MTG. Currently sitting on some sealed boxes of Evolving Skies, Fallout collectors, MH1 MH2 and MH3 draft/set. It’s nice to see those all doing pretty well. Wish I had more free capital to toss at more things like that
@@AmbianceXBL Do you have anything in index funds, bonds, precious metals? I wouldn't put it 100% into cards, since they're illiquid and have a big overhead, and are pretty weak in a downturn (but you should have a long time horizon - storage space might be a concern) Long term, gold/PMs protect against inflation (but still move with market trends in the short term), fixed income is good for riding out recessions, and targeted ETFs for the broad market / specific risky sectors (eg tech) in a bear market should do well. Hell, just don't over leverage yourself and make sure you diversify out and you'll be golden
I already bought 40 surging sparks boosters for 140 to 123 each so unfortunately I wish I can buy these like Rudy says but no more capital. I could sell my 10 evolving skies and buy into this but I don’t know if that’s wise
You can tell how many people don't watch the videos by reading the comments. Rudy is talking about COLLECTOR boxes which only have one print run, not the standard play boxes which will be printed for several years. And yes, the collector boxes WILL go up in value in the long term. We've seen it with every set, and Foundations will be no different. Don't be a Timmy. Separate how you feel about the set from what the market is actually doing, exactly like he says in the video if you watch it.
F’em I don’t really care what people do with the info they’re given. I will laugh at people who end up looking really stupid though because I love people who public post with such confidence
Careful with that assessment. By established WotC logic, the fact that they plan to keep this set in print for the next 4 years means they already have planned the obsolescence of most of the cards in that set. Or to put it the other way: they are not counting on cards like Doubling Season to retain any reprint equity because they already know how they will power-creep them out of the formats they're currently popular in. Otherwise there'd be no way they'd keep them in print for that long. So it's rather questionable if fancy versions of these cards can outperform inflation.
@@chim007azo Oh, but it does. What I'm saying is this: - all cards in this set will be printed to oblivion, because the set will be in print for so long - this means that WotC cannot use these cards in the future as reprints to create hype for other sets - WotC knows their product pipeline for at least two years in advance - WotC will likely only print such cards to oblivion that would have been powercrept to zero anyway Conclusion: most, if not all of the cards in these set will never again hold much value, which means that special versions of those cards will not be too expensive, either, because those will only be chased by collectors, not players. So, will these boxes accumulate value? Probably yes. Will this happen anytime soon? Probably no.
Surging Sparks is still $155 on tcgplayer still last 10 sells once it comes out everyone is going to dump it and try to get the Prismatic Evolutions which by the looks of it looks like it's better then Surging Sparks because almost every card in there has a high playable and great art work.

For what it's worth, I have some false hope that us going back to 3 mtg universe sets a year opens the door for better design/story-building, since the other half does not require a story just card design
What data is showing this is the "real deal"? Most sets are printed for about 2 years and this will be printed 2.5x that at 5+ years! This set is all new territory and can be printed to oblivion. There's no way in hell WOTC doesn't do at least 1 print run of Collectors a year!
I am personally still bothered by this jp-anime-whatever treatment, as of other recent products. Being a generic/vanilla product could mitigate issue (flavour not entirely ruined), but still... And it's not really true the reasoning that noone can do anything about the path followed by management/company/designers/maro/blake "don't engage with product you don't want to engage with" rasmussen/whatever. One could always put aside greed and not putting a dime on a product not deemed worthy of the game. Everything else on video, kind of hard to disagree. Here in EU preorders from 230 euros + shipping, pretty wild thing
I've been out of the game for a while.
