This was known throughout their friendship, as Beatles and even after. It's supposedly true that when Paul released Like A Flower, it inspired John to get back in the studio. Their friendly competitiveness drove a lot of their song writing, both with The Beatles and then solo.

I absolutely love this song but I'm made in some circles to feel like it's a guilty pleasure. I'm just guilty of enjoying a very catchy tune with obviously/deliberately flippant lyrics. Not every song has to be Eleanor Rigby or Nowhere Man.
