I have my steel guitarists who are favorites, some for many years. Now recently I discovered your channel and find another playing style and sound that is different from the others and closer yet to what I truly enjoy about the music that the pedal steel guitar is capable of. The song I first heard you play was Rose Colored Glasses. It immediately got my attention, and now this song. I love the subtle sound changes of your style and the tone. I listen to these songs over and over trying make those beautiful sounds with my guitar. Thanks for sharing your music with us.
As far as I am concerned, there is only one other steel player that it at the top of the game as you are Frank and that a is Dave Hartley. Most country steel players wish they were half as smooth and talented at you are. The music you play is good listening stuff and your skill is off the chart. I am 71 years old now and just started playing my Duesenberg lap steel. I get so frustrated I don't know what to do. I have played guitar ask flattop since I was a little boy but playing a lap steel or pedal steel is a whole other ball game. I wish a thousand times I would have started year ago. At my age now, I doubt I will be able to play any song in the next year. Love you style. A master for sure.
Try listening to Doug Beaumier, he is in the same class as you Dave. Steel Ghitaars originated from the Hawaiian islands in the 1890, where a normal ghitaar was used and played on the lap with a piece of steel rod. When steel combes came out, that was also used. Today it sounds rite with country and western music. Especially the heart string tickle songs.
