Pete where can we find the Toyota report you are referring to? Finding it via google seems almost impossible. Thank you.

I guess it’s handy to know they aren’t really up to what the majority of people buy them for and expect to be doing with them.

I worked for iveco and similar thing, if it was a van doing light work no dramas at all 6, 700,000km but cab chassis hauling either horse floats, caravan even rain water tank with massive wind drag, failed engines with less that 200,000km

Great info Peter. Would you have a link to that report you mention?

Link to the report Peter? Also commented on your other video, you may not of seen it but... You are the best when it comes to these engines. Legalities aside do you think a total EGR block on the 1kd will help or hinder the cracked piston issue and longevity of the engine?

I would love to see a detailed report on the results of your surveys! Were the cracked piston occurance cooincide with heavy towing conditions?

What EGT temps are acceptable for 1kd-ftv engines? E.g. what EGT temp (B1S1 sensor on Prado 150) would you find acceptable when on highway? thanks!

Yet diesels are routinely considered to be the better engine for towing. Seemingly these issues rarely happen to V6 petrol powered Landcruisers / Hiluxes.

Would a massive front mount intercooler fix the issue?

HI Mate Thanks for the video
I have a 2012 Prado Diesel low kms
Giving P0299 & P1238 code (Turbo underboost & injector malfunction) with lots of smoke from exhaust & cyclic pressurized smoke from oil cap when opened)
you reckon changing injector would fix the issue or it could be cracked piston? what should i do?

Basically if you drive a toymotor stick to taking the kids to school and you'll be fine.😂👍

Very informative, I appreciate this effort.
I’m investigating if I can put in a 3 core radiator, push fan(s) in front (with “crimesafe” off cut/ “blue mountain mesh” …the Emberguard 2mm size screen to stop insects, stones etc and make cleaning a breeze (yep that was intensional, hehe)).
Then some sort of high temp alarm with a no water alarm. Of course all new hoses throughout.
I already have an EGT, intercooler IN and OUT temps, boost gauge all digital. Auto transmission has seperate cooler and does not go through radiator, it has Nomad valve bodies, and an analogue temperature gauge.
I also want to buy and mount scanguage3 semi-permanently just below the instrument cluster if it fits.
All this to ensure the motor is kept cool to limit the risk of these bloody pistons cracking again.
Toyota did a shit job, that’s the bottom line. It appears they continue to make crap pistons and I’m glad you are avoiding them but keeping everything else genuine.
Sure I got 374,000 klms out of this engine. It certainly was not the injectors as they were done, bench tested but new by a highly experienced Injection shop. Put in only 45,000 klms ago. This is my 3rd set since owning the vehicle (they were not changed before I bought her).
I use top quality full synthetic oil with a secret additive that not only reduces friction but more importantly has been proven by engine tear down, multiple times on various engines and independent scientific tests to hold close to twice the soot loading before the oil starts to lose it’s designed properties.
That’s real world proof, real world scientific testing with detailed reports for all to see as otherwise it is just “snake oil”.
Oh, I also use an engine flush and every 50,000 klms do a “double flush” (yes it does seem like it’s a waste of oil…but it’s my money after all).
I actually think it was the oil in conjunction with the additive that helped to keep the engine cooler(by reducing friction) that I got 374,000 klms on the original 1kD engine from 2007 that are known to have poor quality pistons. I had towed a 2.4 tonne van previously and the first owner also towed “something”.
Also bear in mind that this engine has been on the Dyno to give 512Nm and 220kW AT the WHEELS, not these silly on wheel electric motor dynos that back calculate to give a higher reading “at the engine (flywheel)” which has no load of the drivetrain etc.
That time we broke down was a major drama and expense as we were over 600 klms from home. Never again. Diesel engines are supposed to last for over a million kilometres.
Peter, you convinced me to place an order.
Talk to you again very soon.

Did the Last model 1kd prado (2015) get upgraded injectors and pistons.

    • @enginecare1417
      @enginecare1417  3 місяці тому

Hi, 2015 still has the same injectors as 2010, they are fitted with 110 pistons which crack worse then the early ones from what we see. I have a few vids on the way re 110 pistons.

@enginecare1417 God now I'm really confused. On some forums it says the opposite, and a bloke on UA-cam says 2015 is the go.
Another question, why is it the prados that are cracking pistons and not the hiaces and hiluxes with the same motor.
Thanks for passing on your knowledge Peter.
