They should've just moved on and spent MORE time on Street Fighter 5's poorly written story than let's make Seth more likable. Other characters needed more development time and SOME characters (Karin) got WAY too much screen time.
What is funny is in Project X Zone he is one of the villians from Street Fighter they made the bad guy you have to fight in and tried to make him big and scary xD
Seth (SFIV) is not a ditto fighter, he's a frankestein fighter, his moveset is just a combination of the existing moves of other characters. He's like Ogre or Honoka and I guess also Shujinko. SFV Seth is more of Ditto fighter in that he copies moves during the round, but only when you select the correct vskill. There's a bit of a frankestein to SFV Seth since he has some of Makoto's moves but they're mostly just aesthetic. What made him such a frankentein in 4 was that he had fireball, a command grab and a teleport. From a story perspective he is kinda underwhelming especially since they just used Juri to hype SSFIV then Oni to hype SSFIVAE. He definitely could fit as a final boss with wow, I have all your moves kind of deal but SF's cast is so similar to each other that he can easily feel lazy. He can do a shoryuken? That is so cute. Now let's see all the other shotos. If they wanted him to be hype as a frankenstein, he should have been able to raging demon in SFIV.
S.I.N stands for Shadaloo Intimidation Network. Source: SFV April Fool's trivia game. SFV Seth does say die 1000 deaths because of his direct encounter with Akuma in the Udon comics. The axe kick from Makoto is from the encounter in the SF4 series.
The biggest issue with street fighter story telling is that both the developers, and the fans, refuse to let go of the past. Everything has to always revolve and return to M.bison and Ryu. Seth was interesting, but the biggest bad guy still has to be M.Bison, so he inevitably gets undercut. And the one time capcom did move forward and leave that story behind was in SF3, and while that's viewed as a gold standard mechanically, it's rare we hear many fans speak of those characters positively. It's a shame, as I think everyone left with the wrong lessons learned from 3.
There was an anime movie that came that explained what BLECE was. It basically gave people enormous ki, close to what Evil Ryu has. But most people’s bodies couldn’t handle it and would die.
I don't remember Seth being universally hated other than just being really cheap. I never really heard too many critiques on his design; as much as I love SF and its characters, they usually keep their designs very grounded, and many of the ones that stray from that tend to look a bit silly. Sagat is essentially a tall, jacked, featureless dude just like Seth was, but with an eyepatch and Muay Thai getup haha. Bison is one of my favorite SF characters, but his design is a pretty clear ripoff of General Washizaki from Riki-Oh and Yasunori Kato from Teito Monogatari. Gill is another tall, jacked, barely clothed generic looking dude, but with flowing hair. They're not reinventing the wheel here, and at least Seth has a giant yin-yang marble as a belly, which is more unique a design feature than any of the others have haha. I wouldn't doubt that they drew at least some inspiration from DBZ's androids, but it should also be mentioned that he's basically a sentient Monitor Cyborg from Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
@@saidi7975 I can see both of those. Dr Manhattan is another tall, jacked, bald, featureless guy, but he and Seth also have unnatural cool-toned skin colors that make them favor each other. Kars is also not at all far fetched since they both have that statuesque Greek/Roman-inspired look with flowing long hair. Gill's alternate Spartan warrior attire in SFV makes him favor Kars even more in terms of gear. But even more so, the Jojo influence in SF characters is also nothing new, with characters like Guile, Juri, and Rose seeming to be clearly inspired by Ponlareff, Jolene, and Lisa Lisa respectively (especially Juri/Jolene). Gill and Necalli probably also take some inspiration from Santana.
I feel sorry for Seth because everyone seems to hate him but it's one of those things where I view it as the worst thing you can ever do is have a character basically be I copy everyone's moves without any identity of my own other than I copy moves
I agree with everything you said right up to the point that you talked about short circuit to make fun of one best kids movies of all time but what can I expect from top hat gaming man your idea of a good kid entertainment is probably Caillou
I hated Seth at first for all the reasons stated above but he actually grew on me after Poongko started making waves in the FGC using him. I actually forgot that I didn't always like the character til watching this video 😂
i love he's named after seth killian as i always have nostalgia for his time at capcom being when i started looking up & loved capcom's classics, find it funny the arcade mode is all the characters beating him and his clones up and while i feel they don't do enough with his resemblance to juri in unit zero really love his look in 5 especially her smirk.
This is probably the most fun playable boss characters in the series and especially in sf5. Sf4 was my first street fighter same so obviously I like him more than most but he’s definitely a favorite of mine and is pretty underrated, I can see why some don’t care for him though. Fingers crossed for sf6!
I really wish Seth had a more unique moveset comprising of their lightweight body, teleportation, and ability to shape their limbs into sharp weapons. Especially with their tandem engine making them incredibly unique
I remember only finding him interesting in the first dozen fights I had against him. His attacks seemed creative and dangerous at first but once you get familiar with him, he was easily manipulated. His AI just didn't match his moveset. On top of it, his annoyingly robust healthbar made him a bit of a chore. He was a disappointment as a boss compared to Gil, which is a shame because his moveset still made him really unique in PvP.
You would think that the very first thing that comes into mind would be Neo Geegus. Some how Top Hat Gaming Man didn't even bother to mention him. Its like Top Hat Gaming Man purposely went out of his ways to avoid mentioning Neo Geegus. I'm very disappointed in Top Hat Gaming Man.
A more fit comparison would be Dural from virtua fighter same concept and the design is very similar even if Seth does have slightly more personality, not saying much because Dural is just a killing machine but that says more about Seth lol
Lesson of the story: If you screwed up making an underwhelming villain who never got a chance to shine, turn them into an insane, unstable waifu.

Rampage art for the win.

SF V Seth looks so badass that I decided to main him.
Wait how are they saying that Seth is most OP. Did they never play against freaking GILL in SF3?
There was an anime movie that came that explained what BLECE was. It basically gave people enormous ki, close to what Evil Ryu has. But most people’s bodies couldn’t handle it and would die.
I know who did the artwork for that thumbnail.....I see your also a man of culture
His dragon punch only has two follow up hits
Seth kinda reminds me of Dr Manhattan design-wise. As for Gill, he's reminescent of Kars to me for some reason...
@@sadowolf I think Guile owes to Von Stroheim though, even if they're morally opposite.
The first street fighter game I put a lot of hours on was sf4.
Thanks to that I have some fondness towards Seth but I know why he is not as popular
Seth is fun to play In sf5 well to me
BARE WITNESS TO MY LIMITLESS POWER
The voice actor slapped
the sonic boom is actually charlie's u can tell by the use of only 1 hand
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man. Can you please do a Street Fighter character documentary video on Rainbow Mika?
I know where that thumbnail art is from, you ain't slick😂😂😂😂
Artist in the thumbnail is Rampage
I thought you were being way too harsh at first comparing him to modern Star Wars but then you explained it and you are totally right. 😆
This is probably the most fun playable boss characters in the series and especially in sf5.
Sf4 was my first street fighter same so obviously I like him more than most but he’s definitely a favorite of mine and is pretty underrated, I can see why some don’t care for him though. Fingers crossed for sf6!
You know, Seth also looks a lot like Geegus from world Heroes as well!
Interesting about the Cain and Abel reference... I'm not sure it's common knowledge, but Adam and Eve had a third son named 'Seth' Genesis 5:3
I really wish Seth had a more unique moveset comprising of their lightweight body, teleportation, and ability to shape their limbs into sharp weapons. Especially with their tandem engine making them incredibly unique
I believe the art in the thumbnail is from rampage0118, though watch out, they draw some... "Interesting" art
Yeah Seth was a poo poo final boss man and a deep disappointment in this franchise
GREAT VID-I THINK HIS STORYLINE FAILED HIM THE MOST LIKE MOST NEW SF CHARACTERS
I can be wrong but didnt the SNK series "World Heroes" have a similar type boss and that game came out waaaaay before SF4.🤔
Bring back Hakan in SF5 and 6!!!
Though he’s a joke, Seth vs Shang Tsung would be a badass match to see.
If he or she is not in sf6 then they can make a character related to Seth plus Also being related to dictator
m bison/vega
Should do lore videos on Rolento, Sodom, Rufus, Deejay, Decapre, Hell 3000, Cyborg, T-Hawk, Poison, Hugo, Q, Twelve, Dudley, Gen, Gouken, Fei Long, Abel, Oro, Ibuki, Sakura, Juri, Dan, Blanka, Adon!!.
So basically he is Neo Geegus only without the shape shifting.
He was hard to beat tho :(
But the ball in the torso is cool
That Seth art was done by an artist called Rampage0118. He does some great stuff.
Seth wasn’t that bad…. But is was no Gill! Gill may be the ultimate SF boss character. He’s a monster.
I did not think Seth would be fan-hated like Rufus, but it seemed to got better in Street Fighter 5.
Easily my least favorite boss in sf history. He just kind of came off as boring and he wasn't that hard to beat. Gill and SFA3 Bison are my favs
"The champion of Muai thai, Segat!" - I laughed hard
So Seth is pretty much a rip off of Dural Virtua Fighter
Yup, and of Rogue from X-Men in SF5.
A more fit comparison would be Dural from virtua fighter same concept and the design is very similar even if Seth does have slightly more personality, not saying much because Dural is just a killing machine but that says more about Seth lol
