I think the opel badge is the reason why it's underrated.

Its pretty raspy (because of the exhaust diameter. Could make good use of a 3" one to get rid of the high gasflow and resulting rasp)
I have the 2.0 diesel, mapped to 210 bh. Purchased it 2013, I still love driving it. Pulls like a train.

Drove std one today and it was flat as a pancake, no turbo rush or urge at all
Good, but unfortunately underrated car.. not seeing here in Germany too often.. But i personally love it and looks really good and special
coz it is too slow compared to other brands in this section ~ would rather drive a gti instead of this one ~ and i really dont like golf gti ^^

One of the most underatted hot hatches ! There is also another same version of this car : vauxhall astra vxr.
Its not really the same because the badges are different and the steering wheel on the wrong side

Opel brand has such a history, in 60s 70s they made opel admiral kapitan and diplomat models to challenge mercedes when audi or vw doesnt even really exist lol. In 80s opel had great cars like senator, monza, manta or in 90s Lotus Omega, kadett gsi, astra gsi.....

It is a lovely car. We have quite a few of them here in the UK, (As vauxhall Astra VXR's) and they are still lovely even by today's standards. Much more fun to drive than all the automatic hot hatches we get today. I've driven both, and I would take this over the new Golf GTI anyday.
I'm really hoping to get one as my next car. My sister has the GTC and it's a lovely looking car and I love hot hatches and I've heard mostly good things about the VXR! Just need to wait for another year or two of no claims then fingers crossed I can afford one!

Great video, my dad has one of these it's a blast to drive. Only downside is servicing is expensive.
Real shame this is no more. GM destroyed their own brands to favor the Korean-designed Chevrolets they wanted to replace these cars with. Opel under PSA is not really the same.
I mean the Astra K looks good to me but its a shame that there is no OPC which would probably look so good but yea.
Looking forward to see the Astra L, but I think its going to be a big disappointment.. we‘ll see.
@@snowcat96 I currently own an Opel astra J and I really think that the K model looks like just another Skoda Fabia (ish), borrowing all those straight lines from the VAG cars from the latest years.. I feel like all the auto industry from the latest years has borrowed the straight lines and they have 0 originality nowadays. Such a shame.

Same conclusion,a very good and underrated car,like the OPC Corsa in the same way. It's only because the Brand name and the call they earned in the 80's! Back in the 60 and 70's Opel got a Stand like Audi is today... They never cured complete since the 80's and the Kadett GSI can't turn back only on his own... For me Opel is quite back and is one of the best car in his class with an eye on it's price, you get more for less money - and thats fo sure ☝️👍🤞🐞🍀☮😘

I’m beginning to like hot hatches because of this channel.
Yes the car is underated, but you also forgot to mention two important things about the car.
Sport button affects suspension, steering, throtle response and ESP (it switches to some sort of special mode). It has stand alone ECU for IDS system.
Rally great thing but it has one big flaw.
There is no replacement shock absorber for any Astra J with sport suspension or IDS system. Older model Astra H had replacement shocks and they were made only by Sachs, the company invented the system. Price for H was 250€ per piece if you got great discount. Genuine one is 350€ or even more.
Price for Astra J shock is more than twice of that.
Luckily there is a company in Poland which can rebuild them at affordable price. 👍
i own an astra j opc for more than 1 year and i am still proud to drive it. i dont drive it daylie so it feels everytime a little bit "new" .

I bought my 2013 Astra J OPC in 2014. Got it from an Opel Dealer in Sweden, never sold new in my country. Really like the car, has done just 28000 km from new. Cheers from car collector in Norway

its been 10 days since i bought my 2012 opel astra gtc 1.4T 140 hp and i really love how it drives,also the interior is very comfy and feels very premium ,lovely car. (GTC>scirocco)
Ziek! Ik heb een blauwe focus st hatchback uit 2014 met 300+ pk 578NM koppel. Je heb al een focus station gehad zag ik. Anders was die van mij ook wel leuk geweest op dit kanaal.
Only cause is Opel is underated,but this is astonishing car 🚗 I wish to have them!!! Looking 👀 so smart, sport, beautiful inside!!!

One of the nicest looking cars even today. I have Astra J GTC but with 1.7 CDTI engine, and I really have no problems with it so far. I guess that they are a bit underrated since they are Opel/Vauxhall.

I have a 2015 white one with the carbon roof and mirrors and black rims. I love this car. I often hear that the number of buttons is exaggerated but personally I like it.
Same, like after a few days using that dash I realized that the button placement makes sense and is easy to use even while driving.
Fun Fact: If you are putting the rear seats down you get a much louder car inside and hearing the (stock) exhaust sound much louder. The OPC Community calls it „Jet Noise“ when you are at high torque the blowing sound sounds makes you feel like you are Maverick from Top Gun 🤭🤩 PLUS: you still have a car sound after and before „Jet Noise“ and if its warm you‘ll get the pops and bangs by letting your feed from gas.

Quite an interesting car reminds me of the previous gen megane. Although 3dr cars are not my thing it’s nice to look at.
My neighbour has a nice red GTC so no VRX but it’s nice.

I like the wrap. Underrated car. Not many people buy fast Opels because of their image which was and sometimes still is 'reliable and functional, but generally not exciting'. Opel Kadett and Astra was a car for mostly elderly people and once you have such an image it's extremely hard to get rid of.
I have a Vectra OPC from 2007. Stage 1 just now and I have straight pipes and sports air filter. My car is insane. It goes like hell. I think I have a little bit over 300 horse power. I live in Sweden 🇸🇪

Its kinda sad how underrated opels are they are suprisingly good and what they lack in mass apeal they have some seriously special features.
I owned one before and I loved it! Very nice design, good suspension, good brakes, very fast in corners. Very neutral and stable. I also liked the "jet" sound :-)

I remember an opel sedan with long wisel sound but the sound is not annoying type it was impressive but forgot the car's name
I had the down-level spec. of this car. It just had a 1.4 litre 140 hp. engine, but it looked very well. If you get a second-hand one then you should choose the blue colour one. I think this colour is the sportiest colour for this model. This was the last model before Opel was bought by PSA.
Not really, the K astra was also developed before Opel was bought. And the K astra is actually a good car. The J is just so damn heavy, and feels incredibly sluggish, while the K feels much more nimble. Drove both with a similar 1.4 turbo, and the K felt like a car that was much, much better. Same with the A insignia and the B insignia. The early 2010 were the lowest point of Opel, all of their cars were heavy as hell, super sluggish, and absolutely bland, without exception, sadly. Ofc the OPC versions were stiffer, and sportier, but still, too heavy.
@@cooperp6429 It seems to me that the heavy weight of the astra j is its advantage for this car, because sitting in it you don’t feel like in a tin can, the weight gives it solidity, every time I sit in it I feel the pleasure of closing the door, this heavy pleasant sound ...

A remap will see 320-330 bhp and 320Ibs of torque, also the top speed limiter can be removed.

I bought a 1.4 in Hungary 7 years ago. 1 blown fuse so far...love my car, could sell it here for what I paid for it, but can't find anything new that I like.

Mine has a EFR turbo with all other good stuff and it makes well over 400 hp and 550Nm. The difference between stock and one with some work done to it is night and day. The stock power curve is not that enjoyable wit high torque at around 3000rpm to 4000 rpm. The power comes in again around 4500 to 5500 and then quickly drops off. A modified one with hybrid turbo or EFR like mine has torque blasting in around 3000 and holds it to 5500 where power takes over till 7200 RPM. That is a completely different experience both in power delevery and sound / driving experience. Also the fact mine is completly stock on the outide and not a frequently seen car has surprised several "top brand" drivers.

Here in Australia, Holden sold it as the Astra VXR, and it was pretty nice. Shame it only lasted 1 year.
It was sold as the Opel Astra OPC here in OZ for about a year before OPEL pulled out again. Then it was the sold as the Holden Astra VXR. I have the Australian delivered Opel Astra OPC version.
It might have all of those buttons but it's better than all of the sub menus you get with Audi and BMW

I had the Astra VXR 2013, great little car and oddly loved the sound... big issue thou is the gearbox and clutch....
I find double-clutching solved my chocolate gearbox issue lol. Own a 2012 Arden blue.
I had a solid black, it was not a 2016 my mistake it was a 13 plate... great car to drive and feel quicker and ham it was.... my friend had the Scirocco R which was noticeably quicker... the gear box on the VXR from what I know was the standard box for the bass standard Astra which is what caused the issues as it just simply wasn't made for anything above 150bhp and using it in the VXR variant was a cheep cost saving from Opal/Vauxhall cutting corners. Had the gear box replaced twice within a year less than 6000 miles and had the clutch replaced once... loved the car and the looks but finally sold it as I could feel there was going to be expensive issues going forward...

In the UK they are known as an Astra VXR, these newer shapes are very rare, not sure why as they're faster than a focus ST, which is very popular
most likely because it is a Vauxhall. they don't have a great reputation with their newer cars so people may have stayed away.
@@BondoV2 yea I think so too, I had a focus ST and the head went within a month of buying it, my friend has a VXR and it's never had issues
@@nickdawson2184 I’m thinking of getting an astra VXR but I can’t get insured on one yet. Literally they won’t even give me a quote. Most recent Vauxhalls aren’t great and I’ve been told similar by a lot of people that they handle like shit. But the GTC VXR I’ve heard great things about

Something is not right with its performance. I have a 2017 OPC, stock, and it goes faster than this one. Not to mention the top speed on the speedo, in my case it was 272km/h. I heard that some cars were underpowered, having around 240 BHP. Maybe this is the case here.
