This performance of Faschingsswank is far freer and more imaginative than the performance he gave in November 1968 at Carnegie Hall, which I attended. Much more gusto in this version, I prefer it. Yet it still abounds in the fantastic manipulation of piano sound in which Michelangeli had no peer. This is the greatest performance of this work I have ever heard. I doubt it will ever be played this well again by any pianist.
He was somehow my neighbor. I'm from Bergamo. But I always loved the quasi godliness of this gentleman. Which he was. Michelangeli was not only one of the beacons of the pianism of the 20th century. He was sooooooo much more. A true ascetic. A true artist. A true Man. Now God is hugging him like a good old friend. And colleague.

Lascia stare gli errori, hai espresso perfettamente il modo perfetto con il quale ABM suonava Schumann... È proprio una storia, un continuo di emozioni, come uno spettacolo di teatro, che rimane impresso in chi ascolta...
