  • First Thought Talks is the premiere thought leadership platform at Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF), taking a look behind the curtain at some of today's most pressing issues with those who know them best.
In this First Thought Talk, Diarmaid Ferriter, Professor of Modern Irish History at University College Dublin and regular contributor to The Irish Times, discusses the last 100 years of the Irish border and how we got to where we are today. And just what might happen with this border in light of Brexit? How might the course of history be changed?
Ferriter is the author of the best-selling book The Border: The Legacy of a Century of Anglo-Irish Politics. He is interviewed here by Professor Gearoid O’Tuathaigh, Professor Emeritus of History at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG).
This GIAF First Thought Talk took place on 20 July, 2019 at the Aula Maxima at NUI Galway. The 2019 GIAF First Thought Talks theme is Borders. To view more Talks on Borders, as well as many other Talks, visit • First Thought Talks at... .
